Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with influenza on sunday in the er and the doctor prescribed me with tamiflu 75mg but I'm worried about my baby getting harmed by the medication because I'm only 14 weeks...any comments or recommendations???
Avatar n tn The flu is more contagious than the common cold and has a high mortality rate. Influenza is a viral infection caused by influenza viruses, and influenza patients are the main source of influenza infection. It is mainly transmitted by humans. The virus can directly infect people who come into contact with the air, and can indirectly infect others through contaminated things. The crowds gather, or the air is not circulating where the virus spreads the fastest.
Avatar n tn I am 5 weeks pregnant with my 3RD baby. I came down with a cold on Thursday. My cough is horrible and I have been running fevers a lot. I called my OB and she called in a RX for tamiflu. I've never been on it before but she assured me that it was safe. She said my cough may turn into pneumonia or bronchitis and that may be worse then taking the meds. I never went thru this with my boys so I'm a little unsure. I did research and it seems safe. What are others opinion on this.
Avatar f tn the virus itself causes pneumonia, pneumonia is a symptom not a condition....check the expiration date on the tamiflu and a pneumonia shot probably wont do any good seeing as this is an unseen unheard of virus until now.
Avatar m tn it was too late for Tamiflu) and he was good to go. Tamiflu is very expensive and from what I have heard time, rest, and fluids unfortuantely.
Avatar n tn Agree with vaccine & tamiflu. Influenza can be deadly, especially to high risk groups like moms, seniors, newborns. Be glad medicine is helping, rest, don't worry about side effects if OB prescribed.
Avatar n tn I had the flu a couple weeks ago and they prescribed me tamiflu but you need to see a doctor first. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I've been prescribed Tamiflu but have seen some concern about it's potential damage to the liver. I have compensated cirrhosis (7 yrs) and am basically very healthy except for this flu. I've read that the drug elevates liver enzymes. Can't call gi doc as Friday night. Thanks for any comments!
Avatar n tn In addition, vaccination will offer protection against circulating influenza strains that have not undergone significant antigenic drift from the vaccine viruses (such as influenza A (H1N1) and B viruses). Because of the detection of these drifted influenza A (H3N2) viruses, this CDC Health Advisory is being issued to re-emphasize the importance of the use of neuraminidase inhibitor antiviral medications when indicated for treatment and prevention of influenza, as an adjunct to vaccination.
Avatar f tn I recently was exposed to someone with influenza. My OB as a precaution prescribed Tamiflu. I'm at the end of my pregnancy 36 weeks and I'm just curious to know if any other moms - to - be have taken this medication and any advice with any moms that have gotten the flu.
Avatar n tn I have to be honest here. I never heard of high dose and regular dose flu vaccine! Truth, getting the actual flu is rare. It sure stinks when you get it but most people have it one or two times in a LIFETIME. And NOW we have tamiflu. I'm sure if there are two options, I've only gotten the regular flu vaccine. I'm in my 50's. Two years ago, my son was very sick with a 105 temp. I took care of him and we went to the doctor in the morning.
167426 tn?1254086235 Leslee had the flu shot this year, but her daughter that lives with them and is going to college developed Influenza A, last Tuedsay, Wenesday went to ER, dx with the flu, started on Tamiflu 75mg twice daily for 5 days, this put Leslee at great risk because of her immune system, after doing some research I found that the Tamiflu also is used to prevent flu, so I called Les and she went to her clinic today and they have now ordered the Tamiflu for her 75mg daily for 10 days.
Avatar f tn No I had the flu in my first trimester and they gave me tamiflu BC I had only had it a day or so. It knocked it out in 2 days!
Avatar f tn My son is 19 and was recently diagnosed with the influenza b. He is a college freshman and was prescribed Tamiflu by the clinic there. He took the meds for 2 days and then he felt better so he decided he was fine. UGH!!!! He was diagnosed almost two weeks ago, although I realize that stopping the medication was not the smartest and best thing to do, he is still sufferring from a headache.
Avatar f tn They may want to prescribe you tamiflu which only is effective if you start it within the first 24 hours of symptoms. I got influenza in December and my doctor said that the benefits of it far outweigh the risks because influenza in pregnancy is super serious and can lead to death for you and baby if it gets bad enough. Try to stay cool and hydrated if you can't get in and if your fever spikes head to the ER.
Avatar f tn A loading dose and short-term administration of oral ribavirin significantly improved symptoms and signs of influenza type A or B infection in 25 patients. The antiviral effect was not significant. No adverse clinical effects or significant laboratory values were observed. Oral treatment of patients with influenza A or B infection might be possible with ribavirin.

Avatar m tn Welcome to the forum. Responding to the title, before reading your actual question: This probably is a good example of reading lists of HIV/AIDS manifestations without understanding of context. Sure, some people with HIV have low lymphocyte counts, especially in advance AIDS (but not generally with recently acquired infection).
Avatar m tn If you develop fever, headache, muscle aches etc, you could indeed have influenza -- in which case you should contact your doctor to decide if you would benefit from Tamiflu or one of the other anti-influenza drugs.
6665798 tn?1385627441 s eve in hospital with my youngest daughter who has been diagnosed with influenza type a. Luckily I have not tested positive, but my other child (not in hospital) has also got it. Both are on anti-viral meds called Tamiflu. I absolutely hate seeing my children sick and I am always making sure my kids wash their hands often, especially after being out and about and at playgrounds etc. they drink and eat good wholesome home cooked food and drink water all day unlike alot of kids.
151928 tn?1275707337 It is important for a pregnant woman to receive the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine as well as a seasonal influenza vaccine.
