My daughter-in-law was diagnosed w/OVCA May 14, 2009. She went through 4 chemos, radical and brutal surgery at The Mayo, where they removed all female organs, 6-8" of intestine, and a grapefruit sized mass from her diaphragm. She's due for a scan 11/2, and to go back to Mayo in mid-November where they will check for cancer in lungs/pleura.
She is stage four, and since surgery has had 2 more chemos.
Today, she was diagnosed w/H1N1, feels terrible, and has 100.4 temperature.
I have had flu like symptoms for 10-12 days including a lower grade fever for 10 days (99-101 degrees). I called the doctor 10 days ago and they said it was likely h1n1 and not to come in, because they are not testing or treating with any anti virals at this point. They said just to go to the ER if had difficulty breathing.
i was about 7 weeks pregnant and went to the ER,they said they werent sure if i had the swine flu or flu but not sure so they treated me for the swine flu anyways because i was pregnant,they gave me tamiflu....i wanted to know if there was any risks to the baby from having the flu or from the tamiflu?
This, with 103 temps and every symptom listed by the CDC. They tested rapid test + for A type which most likely was H1N1 in lack of community outbreak and too early for seasonal flu.
We were very much on the fence about the vaccine which in my area isn't until early December, but now don't need to make a decision.

Has anyone taken or been asked to take the swine flu or H1N1 vaccination? My Ob has strongly advised me to take it after my 16 week. I told him I heard about the side effects of the vaccine eg. rashes, skin allergies etc but he told me that the side effects are minimal compared to the complications of the H1N1 virus to the mother and child.
There is no treatment for H1N1 except Tamiflu which only shortens the duration of the illness by 1 day, so why even bother. H1N1 can lead to upper resperatory problems, and this is when you need to seek help. The media has blown this way out of proportion, many more people die from the seasonal flu.

I got the vaccine over 2 weeks ago at the end of my 1st trimester, and had absolutely no side effects. I feel very relieved that I and my unborn child are now protected.

Now my ca125 has gone up to 1700. I feel good, my pet scan is good. Doctor has a "gut feeling" that the cancer is back.
