Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu how it works

tamiflu

4355200 tn?1354593144 My four-year-old grandson, who has leukemia, was just diagnosed with the flu despite having the shot this year. I also had the shot prior to my diagnosis. Obviously it doesn't cover strain B, which is what he has. My husband and I kept him until this morning so we have been exposed big time. Does anyone know about Tamiflu and whether or not it should be taken with HCV. My guess is it's okay, but my hepa will not respond to any of my questions, so I'm asking here.
Avatar n tn Would herpes cause strong flu symptoms without the sores? my doc recons i should take tamiflu as it sounds like swine/seasonal flu. hope it is! am of course goin for a sexual health screen but have been recommended to wait 2 weeks as things wont show before this.. so in the meantime.. i'm gettin a little worried. :( any advice would be very helpful. also.. any other stds cause these kinda reactions? Avatar n tn I am 5 weeks pregnant with my 3RD baby. I came down with a cold on Thursday. My cough is horrible and I have been running fevers a lot. I called my OB and she called in a RX for tamiflu. I've never been on it before but she assured me that it was safe. She said my cough may turn into pneumonia or bronchitis and that may be worse then taking the meds. I never went thru this with my boys so I'm a little unsure. I did research and it seems safe. What are others opinion on this.
905197 tn?1282232033 I just got out of the hospital last week after getting a virus and being dehydrated, and not even two days later my hubby started coughing and running a fever, the minute the fever started I got a bag and packed my stuff and went to my moms till he got to a doc. My doctor started me on tamiflu when he got his results back just to be safe so I dont get it!!!! Also I am not allowed to go around my husband for 5-7 days.
Avatar f tn 30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?
Avatar m tn t of taken so long. With my son his case was very mild - he slept it off for a week (no meds..it was too late for Tamiflu) and he was good to go. Tamiflu is very expensive and from what I have heard time, rest, and fluids unfortuantely.
707563 tn?1626361905 I paused and said well ok but the nasal aspiration test at the ER said I did have the flu-influenza type 2 I believe it was. He was so nonplussed it was comical. I took Tamiflu but didnt feel like it helped unless it works in the future because I did not get the flu the following year. So this year I was staying with my mom at her retirement complex. All the ladies meet for coffee or cards twice a week in the community room. All the ladies attend even when they are not over their virus yet...
Avatar n tn You may actually experience fewer or less severe symptoms for having gotten the vaccination. As far as Tamiflu, yes, it is safe during pregnancy. I have taken it myself. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn There are mixed thoughts on this. I got my first flu vaccine last year due to a good sell job by my doctor. :>) My kids have never gotten it. My thoughts: flu is rare. Much rarer than people think. I've had it twice in my entire life. My kids have never had it. Only certain populations are at true risk for mortality from it. It's miserable when you have it but not deadly.
Avatar n tn Not all people can get Tamiflu. I would think you can google it to see what age you have to be. I'm sorry I could'nt be of more help. I do think there may be an age limit on Tamiflu, Could be wrong about that though.
Avatar f tn Yes I took tamiflu when I was pregnant with my son it's on the lowest scale for harming you or the baby. In other words its safe.
Avatar f tn I would get the pharmacist to show you in their book the reasins its not safe in pregnancy..i kno the antidepressants i used to take can cause heart defects to a baby in the first trimester..somethings are only a problem then..
Avatar f tn I did not know this re pneumonia vaccine--mine is getting near to 5 years old so good to know this anyhow. You seem very knowledgeable; do you know how long Tamiflu actually lasts? I have a packet of Tamiflu (from Roche, prescription) from November 2004 that says it expires in 2006 but I've also heard that Roche guarantees its tamiflu for five years, and when I phoned Roche today they'd only say "We do not recommend use beyond the expiration date," nor will my doctor.
Avatar f tn Get to a doctor and get a tamiflu prescription asap if you test positive. It took me almost a month to recover.
789911 tn?1368636783 Doctors routinely insist that we do get the flu shot while we are on treatment as it is considered a chronic disease with liver damage and we do not need any further complications. I was on tx for 72 weeks and had the shot twice. I now get it every year. Also being vaccinated against pneumonia is a good idea too. If you have had the shot before you should assume you are fine with it. If you have an allergy to latex or eggs they make a special shot for that type of person.
8960138 tn?1407673893 Yes, thanksgiving week, my son had the flu. I was so sick and was sure I caught it too, but I could only take tylenol and Tamiflu. Drink lots of liquids. Other than that, you're literally going to have to sweat it out. Hope you feel well soon.
6822962 tn?1396329659 I took it while preg it is safe that is why they gave it to you.
7714453 tn?1394714282 ll cause harm to my baby. Anyone been prescribed meds for flu this pregnancy? (Tamiflu in particular..) Any natural remedies? That's the route I like to go.. I've never had the flu in my life.
Avatar n tn Thank You again Dr. It was unprotected. You may have misread, would that change your post?
Avatar n tn I have to be honest here. I never heard of high dose and regular dose flu vaccine! Truth, getting the actual flu is rare. It sure stinks when you get it but most people have it one or two times in a LIFETIME. And NOW we have tamiflu. I'm sure if there are two options, I've only gotten the regular flu vaccine. I'm in my 50's. Two years ago, my son was very sick with a 105 temp. I took care of him and we went to the doctor in the morning.
