I went to the ER yesterday because i thought i was getting the flu and strep throat, but according to their tests they both came negative. Well, the doc decided to give me the tamiflu and other medicine for bronchitis. They didn't do a chest xray because im 16 weeks pregnant, but because of my bath cough. No fever-- but everything did come up, water, oj, fruit and yogurt.
My only comment is that our local hospital (I work there) is prescribing tamiflu (an anti-viral) for patients in the high-risk groups if they come down with flu symptoms. This needs to be started as soon as possible to have the maximum effect. Please advise your daughter to call her PCP or her oncologist to get this prescription right away!
There is no reason why her negative for HIV isn't really a negative. Flu is notorious for being bad and what happens with flu is that people often get secondary infections. People are often sick for a full week with flu and then a secondary infection sets in and it's another two weeks after that before they really feel better. But this has nothing to do with HIV. Doctors do not test for HIV every time someone is sick.
I'm 24 weeks today, Been sick with the flu b virus for over a week, Tamiflu made me feel worse, diarrhea, vomiting been to the ER 3 times in the past 6 days, today I get a call from my ob's office stating I need to be on meds for Strep B they found in my urine culture. I never even heard of this, so I Google it, now I'm more concerned than ever for my baby. Has anyone else heard or personally experienced this?
I have been diagnosed with the flu type b on Monday. My fevere goes up and down but really doesn't stay down permanently. I am taking tamiflu, theraflu, Motrin as prescribed by the doctors. My throat feels ripped open and today I noticed that there is some blood in the phlegm that I cough up. Is this a sign of pneumonia?

That is my professional opinion as a clinical microbiologist The only other thing is are your lymph nodes swollen? Could these be what you feel when you swallow? You may have had the original strep throat and then your lymph nodes swelled and that is hat you feel? That with some residual pain from the sore throat? I don't know how bad your throat feels.
I have been so miserable for a whole week now. There is no relief and at times I feel like I'm dying. This might sound dramatic but I am serious my nose runs like a faucet I cannot breathe through it my TEETH hurt so bad I can't chew a banana. They would be able to call something else in for you or might want to do other tests to confirm what may be the problem. There are very resistant strains of Strep out there.
Well I ha e sinus infections just about all my life and now it seems as though I have picked up another germ. It's strep throat I have had it for 5months I went to see eat nose and throat doctor every time I went I tested positive for it help me I've been on several different antibodies and it helplessly for a moment then it's back again what shall I do help please than you.

And strep is notoriously resistant. They now use higher doses of things and antibiotics have additive agents to help them stay potent in killing the bacteria. So, if you took the full course and are still sick, follow back up with your doctor for the next step. Knock this out hopefully soon!
I know strep and allergies are definitely two different things, but it could be that if he has an allergy issue, his nasal passages and throat get irritated from that and then an infection occurs - the strep throat. This past winter I, myself, got strep throat twice and pneumonia once - the first bout of strep actually landed me in the hospital for 4 days.
If you had strep throat or another type of strep you wouldn't have sneezing and runny nose. Some viruses start with a sore throat then change into the other symptoms. Hopefully they will go away soon. If not or if they get worse see your doctor.
