Tamiflu for influenza a

Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu for influenza a

tamiflu

Avatar f tn The doctor would not have prescribed something that was dangerous to your fetus. Tamiflu has a very limited window of time in which it can help with your symptoms. You need to take it so that it will help you to feel better. If you wait too long it isn't going to do you any good.
Avatar m tn Sorry, but there is no cure for influenza. Influenza is a virus and the best thing you can do is to drink plenty of fluids (keep off milk products), stay in bed and rest. Any over the counter remedies to bring down the fever and relieve pain is fine. You may like to try Lemsip which is mixed in a mug full of hot water, it comes in blackcurrant and lemon flavours. Drinking freshly squeezed lemon juice with honey in hot water is very soothing.
Avatar n tn Tamiflu is completely safe for pregnant mama's. I'm a pharmacy assistant, a dispensary assistant and used to be a medical receptionist and a practice manager. So I'm partially aware of what's safe and whats not (obviously not as advanced as doctors and pharmacists) but it is most definitely safe to take. It's generally used for Influenza though not just a common cold.
Avatar f tn is due to a new strain of influenza A virus subtype H1N1 that derives by reassortment from one strain of human influenza virus, one strain of avian influenza virus, and two separate strains of swine influenza virus. The origins of this new strain are unknown, and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reports that this strain has not been isolated in swine. It passes with apparent ease from human to human, an ability attributed to an as-yet unidentified mutation.
Avatar n tn Agree with vaccine & tamiflu. Influenza can be deadly, especially to high risk groups like moms, seniors, newborns. Be glad medicine is helping, rest, don't worry about side effects if OB prescribed.
Avatar n tn If you have the flu you need to see a doctor. It can be dangerous for prego women.. I had the flu a couple weeks ago and they prescribed me tamiflu but you need to see a doctor first. Good luck!
Avatar f tn htm Hepatotoxicity Despite widespread use, there is little evidence that oseltamivir when given orally causes liver injury, either in the form of serum enzyme elevations or clinically apparent liver disease. A proportion of patients with acute influenza A may have minor serum enzyme elevations during the acute illness, but these appear to be independent of therapy and are not exacerbated by osteltamivir. I also looked up the prescribing information sheet for tamuflu https://www.gene.
Avatar f tn No way would I take it! Flu meds barely even do anything except pump crap into your body. Personally I'd just go crazy with Vit C, also take zinc, stay off processed carbs and sugar and boost my immune system. If I got flu I'd take Echinacea a few times a day for the duration of sickness and eat lots of bone broth. But that's just me.
Avatar n tn Now, my first son that had been so ill took tamiflu and was better by night time in terms of his fever and how he felt. My second son started tamiflu as SOON as he spiked a fever. He never had a fever again. *I* having been vaccinated had no symptoms at all and feel like I didn't get sick or catch it because of that flu vaccine (my kids weren't vaccinated). Ask your doctor but in reality, you should actually be just fine with the regular dose flu. I understand the risks are greater.
11062655 tn?1414987783 The side effects sound pretty harsh on the liver. My doctor gave me 75 mgs. to be taken twice a day for 5 days. I have stage 2 and 3 scarring. I don't want to speed up the damage by taking a liver killing drug. Thank you.
167426 tn?1254086235 Leslee had the flu shot this year, but her daughter that lives with them and is going to college developed Influenza A, last Tuedsay, Wenesday went to ER, dx with the flu, started on Tamiflu 75mg twice daily for 5 days, this put Leslee at great risk because of her immune system, after doing some research I found that the Tamiflu also is used to prevent flu, so I called Les and she went to her clinic today and they have now ordered the Tamiflu for her 75mg daily for 10 days.
Avatar f tn No I had the flu in my first trimester and they gave me tamiflu BC I had only had it a day or so. It knocked it out in 2 days!
Avatar f tn They may want to prescribe you tamiflu which only is effective if you start it within the first 24 hours of symptoms. I got influenza in December and my doctor said that the benefits of it far outweigh the risks because influenza in pregnancy is super serious and can lead to death for you and baby if it gets bad enough. Try to stay cool and hydrated if you can't get in and if your fever spikes head to the ER.
Avatar n tn my doc recons i should take tamiflu as it sounds like swine/seasonal flu. hope it is! am of course goin for a sexual health screen but have been recommended to wait 2 weeks as things wont show before this.. so in the meantime.. i'm gettin a little worried. :( any advice would be very helpful. also.. any other stds cause these kinda reactions? Thanks in advance!
Avatar n tn Every year they create a vaccination that protects against certain strains for example...they vaccinate for strain A. Most of the time what happens is the flu comes out and Its Mostly strain B. Which is a different flu strain. So what that means is it doesn't stop you from getting the flu since you were vaccinated for a different strain...BUT it still offers protection so that you don't get the flu so badly that you have to be hospitalized or die from it. Does that make sense?
Avatar f tn Felt worse saturday, miserable sunday, went to urgent care today and dr said I tested very positive for influenza virus. He prescribed me tamiflu... I'm misersble. Worst headache and body aches, fever, coughing and congestion. Anyone else suffer from the flue while pregnant? How long did it take to get better? Dr wrote me work excuse thru Friday.
Avatar f tn She and her family were begging the hospital people to give her the TamiFlu but the hospital people refused to give her any TamiFlu because of her three negative Rapid-Flu tests, saying that the U.S. govt. required a positive Rapid-Flu test in order for TamiFlu to be given. So, over a period of days, the poor woman's health declined until she finally died - and all because of an overreliance on tests and a complete non-use of common sense among medical people (sound familiar?).
Avatar m tn If you develop fever, headache, muscle aches etc, you could indeed have influenza -- in which case you should contact your doctor to decide if you would benefit from Tamiflu or one of the other anti-influenza drugs.
6665798 tn?1385627441 s eve in hospital with my youngest daughter who has been diagnosed with influenza type a. Luckily I have not tested positive, but my other child (not in hospital) has also got it. Both are on anti-viral meds called Tamiflu. I absolutely hate seeing my children sick and I am always making sure my kids wash their hands often, especially after being out and about and at playgrounds etc. they drink and eat good wholesome home cooked food and drink water all day unlike alot of kids.
Avatar m tn I can recall having a fever back in the fall for a few days... The doctor prescribed me meds as if it might be swine flu... Fever went away in a few days... Never had swollen lymph nodes, or painful urination, rash etc... It is funny but I start to dwell and you think think think and the human mind tends to make u nutz. Thanks for your reply.
Avatar f tn My son is 19 and was recently diagnosed with the influenza b. He is a college freshman and was prescribed Tamiflu by the clinic there. He took the meds for 2 days and then he felt better so he decided he was fine. UGH!!!! He was diagnosed almost two weeks ago, although I realize that stopping the medication was not the smartest and best thing to do, he is still sufferring from a headache.
