Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu for influenza

tamiflu

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with influenza on sunday in the er and the doctor prescribed me with tamiflu 75mg but I'm worried about my baby getting harmed by the medication because I'm only 14 weeks...any comments or recommendations???
Avatar m tn it was too late for Tamiflu) and he was good to go. Tamiflu is very expensive and from what I have heard time, rest, and fluids unfortuantely.
Avatar n tn I am 5 weeks pregnant with my 3RD baby. I came down with a cold on Thursday. My cough is horrible and I have been running fevers a lot. I called my OB and she called in a RX for tamiflu. I've never been on it before but she assured me that it was safe. She said my cough may turn into pneumonia or bronchitis and that may be worse then taking the meds. I never went thru this with my boys so I'm a little unsure. I did research and it seems safe. What are others opinion on this.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the good and informative post. I did not know this re pneumonia vaccine--mine is getting near to 5 years old so good to know this anyhow. You seem very knowledgeable; do you know how long Tamiflu actually lasts?
Avatar n tn Agree with vaccine & tamiflu. Influenza can be deadly, especially to high risk groups like moms, seniors, newborns. Be glad medicine is helping, rest, don't worry about side effects if OB prescribed.
Avatar f tn I recently was exposed to someone with influenza. My OB as a precaution prescribed Tamiflu. I'm at the end of my pregnancy 36 weeks and I'm just curious to know if any other moms - to - be have taken this medication and any advice with any moms that have gotten the flu.
Avatar n tn Should I now get a high-dose type on top of the regular type I got, or is this not recommended?
167426 tn?1254086235 Leslee had the flu shot this year, but her daughter that lives with them and is going to college developed Influenza A, last Tuedsay, Wenesday went to ER, dx with the flu, started on Tamiflu 75mg twice daily for 5 days, this put Leslee at great risk because of her immune system, after doing some research I found that the Tamiflu also is used to prevent flu, so I called Les and she went to her clinic today and they have now ordered the Tamiflu for her 75mg daily for 10 days.
Avatar f tn No I had the flu in my first trimester and they gave me tamiflu BC I had only had it a day or so. It knocked it out in 2 days!
Avatar f tn They may want to prescribe you tamiflu which only is effective if you start it within the first 24 hours of symptoms. I got influenza in December and my doctor said that the benefits of it far outweigh the risks because influenza in pregnancy is super serious and can lead to death for you and baby if it gets bad enough. Try to stay cool and hydrated if you can't get in and if your fever spikes head to the ER.
Avatar n tn 5 days into things, too late for tamiflu too. At this point you are feeling better anyways so why bother? unless you had a throat culture to look for herpes, not much else you can do at this point. continue to follow up with your provider if your neck continues to be inflammed.
Avatar n tn @Kasie....ims sorry but that information is not accurate. The CDC did not issue an apology. The fact is On 3 December 2014, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued a health advisory to clinicians about the 2014-2015 flu season. The advisory warned testing of active flu strains in October and November of 2014 had revealed that circulating strains "antigenically drifted" from strains included in the development of current doses.
Avatar f tn Felt worse saturday, miserable sunday, went to urgent care today and dr said I tested very positive for influenza virus. He prescribed me tamiflu... I'm misersble. Worst headache and body aches, fever, coughing and congestion. Anyone else suffer from the flue while pregnant? How long did it take to get better? Dr wrote me work excuse thru Friday.
Avatar m tn If you develop fever, headache, muscle aches etc, you could indeed have influenza -- in which case you should contact your doctor to decide if you would benefit from Tamiflu or one of the other anti-influenza drugs.
6665798 tn?1385627441 s eve in hospital with my youngest daughter who has been diagnosed with influenza type a. Luckily I have not tested positive, but my other child (not in hospital) has also got it. Both are on anti-viral meds called Tamiflu. I absolutely hate seeing my children sick and I am always making sure my kids wash their hands often, especially after being out and about and at playgrounds etc. they drink and eat good wholesome home cooked food and drink water all day unlike alot of kids.
Avatar m tn I can recall having a fever back in the fall for a few days... The doctor prescribed me meds as if it might be swine flu... Fever went away in a few days... Never had swollen lymph nodes, or painful urination, rash etc... It is funny but I start to dwell and you think think think and the human mind tends to make u nutz. Thanks for your reply.
Avatar f tn He is a college freshman and was prescribed Tamiflu by the clinic there. He took the meds for 2 days and then he felt better so he decided he was fine. UGH!!!! He was diagnosed almost two weeks ago, although I realize that stopping the medication was not the smartest and best thing to do, he is still sufferring from a headache. He says he feels better if he takes two advil each day, but he doesn't want to continue doing that much longer.
