Tamiflu for h1n1

Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu for h1n1

tamiflu

167 tn?1374173817 OB says to take Tamiflu and start today, but Tamiflu is not recommended for pregnancy based on unknown reactions to unborn children. Hubby and I don't know what decision is the best for us. Any opinions? The prescription is waiting for me...just so scared either way. I am leaning towards taking my chances and not taking it, but that is not the recommendation. What if I harm my baby by taking it? What if I do by not taking it??
Avatar n tn Yes. Your doctor should have given you a prescription of Tamiflu immediately. It would have helped tremendously. If you are having trouble breathing and your chest hurts, you need to get to the doctor, immediately.
944080 tn?1298919453 It really worries me also. I do know a few pregnant women who contracted the virus and survived. I am sure alot of pregnant women have caught it and been fine. But, I also know of ones who have contracted the H1N1 and have sadly passed. One of my moms employees had to take off for a funeral last week. Her friend who was in her last trimester of pregnancy had died of complications of the h1n1 virus. Her baby did survive. I think it is a big deal and it is something to be very cautious about.

982641 tn?1252025412 I recently read an article that said that overuse of antiviral medications like Tamiflu and Relenza could potentially ease the way for drug resistant strains of H1N1. The CDC and WHO are recommending that patients with mild to moderate symptoms should not take antiviral medication. Just a thought.
Avatar f tn i was about 7 weeks pregnant and went to the ER,they said they werent sure if i had the swine flu or flu but not sure so they treated me for the swine flu anyways because i was pregnant, they gave me tamiflu....i wanted to know if there was any risks to the baby from having the flu or from the tamiflu?
1052300 tn?1262940306 Glad you are going in to get checked out. Weird that they are putting the two with swine flu on Tamiflu. I read that doesn't work for H1N1, but I guess they know best! It doesn't sound like you have many symptoms so far, so try to stay calm... I'm betting it's just a reaction to the vaccine...
478429 tn?1265244387 I just want to let you know that even if you get any type of flu syptoms the docs will not test for the H1N1 anyway since they say it is too risky for people to be exposed to the virus and just give out the tamiflu as a precaution. So, I am letting you all know that it really is not that severe of a virus unless you have major health issues. But remember it is everyone's personal decision whether they get the vaccine or not.
363110 tn?1340920419 Just curious to see if there are any forum members who've had H1N1, not the vaccine the actual flu bug it'sself. How seriously did you get it? I'm going in tomorrow for a nasal swab to see if that's what I've got right now. Basically I had my seasonal flu shot, but H1N1 wasn't out yet. We've had a nasty bug going around our home, and my OB thought maybe it was a gastrointerological thing, except I'm not dealing with any diarreah.
1029233 tn?1263966032 I went home on anti-viral meds safe for pregnancy and I had a phone call a couple of days later to say I tested positive for the H1N1 swine flu. I was stunned as all I had experienced was flu sympotoms. Nothing stood out as life-threatening. As the doc on the phone told me - ''you're just like 98 % of the population who make a recovery after having what are flu symptoms.'' My baby was fine. I was ill for a few days but coughing over a few weeks. It was no big deal.
736590 tn?1280291565 Of course, they did not want to see me or test but said it was a high probable for H1N1. It was kind of funny hearing that term used in reference to something other than MS! Anyway... I would highly recommend the vaccine. I survived but it was quite a trip.
163305 tn?1333668571 One of the reasons that a H1N1 shot may not be a good idea for transplant patients especially, is that all transplant patients have to take anti-rejection Meds (Meds to suppress their own immune systems). The vaccine is designed to allow stimulation of Anti bodies, but that the vaccines is held in check in non Transplantees infection wise by their own Immune System . In a transplant patient the H1N1 is , infection wise , not a good idea.
478429 tn?1265244387 Well, after going back and forth and debating whether or not I should get this vaccine has really been tough on me. I recieved my flu shot yesterday and asked the PA what he thought of the H1N1 vaccine. He said to me "Honestly, you really need to get it being pregnant...The mortality rate for pregnant woman is now up to 50% and the vaccine may also protect your baby once born which is good b/c infants are too young to receive the flu vaccines...
Avatar n tn Personal experience within my family, has shown the H1N1 to be extremely aggressive and withing 12-36hrs of first symptoms two of my children were on full asthma meds including inhaled steroids and antibiotics for secondary infection & Tamiflu. This, with 103 temps and every symptom listed by the CDC. They tested rapid test + for A type which most likely was H1N1 in lack of community outbreak and too early for seasonal flu.
Avatar f tn I am someone who also got a seasonal flu vaccine at a time when I was pregnant, and had no side effects or issues from it, either. Unlike other flus, H1N1 (the illness, not the shot) has been very dangerous for pregnant women, so please don't take the threat lightly. The shot stings a little bit, is all I found.
Avatar f tn Call your doctor, I had the H1N1 at 21 weeks it was horrible ughh. But you can take the tamiflu they prescribe so if u do have the flu its best to get meds now.
Avatar f tn There is no treatment for H1N1 except Tamiflu which only shortens the duration of the illness by 1 day, so why even bother. H1N1 can lead to upper resperatory problems, and this is when you need to seek help. The media has blown this way out of proportion, many more people die from the seasonal flu.
Avatar f tn Because of my pregnancy, he was isolated at his mothers house for a week and I was immediately put on Tamiflu since I was already exposed. I was told I needed to wait til a few days after I was done taking it to get my shot because of the unknown effect of the Tamiflu on the vaccines effectiveness, but after coming that close to getting sick, I am definitely getting the shot.
721523 tn?1331581802 Now my husband is testing positive for H1N1. Guess where he got it? OMG I cant believe that she refused to test him!!!!!! I now am feeling rotten and the feaver has begun. The reason that I am so angry is that today my friend took her son to the same dr with the same symptoms. They tested him before he even saw Dr C. !!!!!! It is one thing to get substandard treatment, but it should be the same for everybody. I even told her that my Neuro was waiting to find out the results.
151928 tn?1275707337 (I did read that gullain barre is one of the things doctors are supposed to look for with the new H1N1 vaccine and report to the fda but I could not find anything that said it was occurring a lot...) I'd just like to read more about it before I make a decision.
Avatar f tn For the past 2 months I have had the following symptoms: Fever, Migraines, rash on my palms. severe muscle pain, fatique, slurred speech at times, & some short term memory loss. The following symptoms started after a confirmed case of H1N1. I have been put through every test known to man..blood cultures, blood test, MRI's, cat scans, spinal taps and thus far I have gotten no explanation.
Avatar f tn Hi......i read an article about H1N1 virus..it says: to protect yourself from the virus"swine flu" it will be good for you to drink a cup of water with full tea spoon of Sodium bicarbonate daily, which will make your blood more alkaline. and the alkalinity is not favourable enviroment for the virus ...and the virus will day the Q is: is this true? can Sodium bicarbonate harm my body?
Avatar f tn I had both the seasonal flu shot and the H1N1 shot. No problems with either.
