Flu vaccine does not work. But Tamiflu is safe. Rest with plenty of fluids and it shall pass.

If you see my earlier post- had swine flu vaccine last Thursday- and then got sick- thought from vaccine. Teen in house had been home that day sick from school- and day before. Next day went to Dr- just got the test results and tested POSITIVE for swine flu. I am so worried- called my OB right away- I still feel week- tired. I thought I was just having a reaction- but partner got sick the enxt day too. (They were worried I WOULD give it to them- but I know that is not possible.

I never heard of high dose and regular dose flu vaccine! Truth, getting the actual flu is rare. It sure stinks when you get it but most people have it one or two times in a LIFETIME. And NOW we have tamiflu. I'm sure if there are two options, I've only gotten the regular flu vaccine. I'm in my 50's. Two years ago, my son was very sick with a 105 temp. I took care of him and we went to the doctor in the morning.

check the expiration date on the tamiflu and a pneumonia shot probably wont do any good seeing as this is an unseen unheard of virus until now.

this year it doesnt matter if you get the vaccine or not. The flu vaccine doesnt work against this strand. I got the vaccine and still got the flu.

My wife and I tend to have very different experiences when we get sick. Now, we never have any idea what it is we have because we don't go to the doctor. We've had illnesses so often by now as we're in our sixties that we know it will go away. But I take stuff for it and she doesn't and my few illness experiences are much shorter than my wife's and much less intense. At least, so far.

Oh Jen, what a dilema to be in. If it were me I would probably take the tamiflu. Part of the reason I am comfortable with it is that I have a huge amount of trust in my OB. I feel confident in her knowledge and comfortable with following her recommendations. I am more scared of the effects of H1N1 then the vaccine or tamiflu. That's me though and obviously you need to do what you feel is right.

said that if I have any cold-like symptoms (besides what I might experience over the next couple days from the vaccine) I am to call the office immediately and they will prescribe tamiflu to start taking before they even test me. I got all the flu-like symptoms they said were possible and spent 5 days in bed. I am fine now, and have seen my ob since I received the vaccine. The baby is fine as well. Even though I reacted badly to the vaccine, I would definitely do it again if it means making sure my baby, other children and myself are all at a lower risk of getting swine flu.

I was very concerned about the mercury levels in the vaccine. However, after a lot of thought and prayer my husband and I decided to go ahead and get our daughter the flu mist...and for me to go ahead and get the shot. My main purpose in even getting the vaccine myself was so our precious baby would be protected this winter! I keep hearing all the info on the swine flu and how pregnant women are the most at risk group and that we should get the vaccine as soon as it comes out. I'm scared to get such an new vaccine but then I'm scared of the consequences of getting the swine flu??? I also have a 16 month old who is in daycare so they say we should get them the shot too.
