Tamiflu and to relenza

Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu and to relenza

tamiflu

Avatar f tn Does anyone know how old are the stocked Tamiflu and Relenza antivirals that the U.S. plans to use if this swine flu worsens? See my post above; if we don't know whether Tamiflu or Relenza past their expiration date [2 years for tamiflu] have still any efficacy, and we don't know how old or new the U.S. stockpiled quantities of these drugs are, then how do we know whether (or rather, to what degree) they are effective?
982641 tn?1252025412 said that if I have any cold-like symptoms (besides what I might experience over the next couple days from the vaccine) I am to call the office immediately and they will prescribe tamiflu to start taking before they even test me. They said they want me to get vaccinated as soon as the H1N1 vaccine is sent out... I guess I'll probably do it... it just makes me nervous. By the way, if you have forgotten - flu shots hurt! My arm has been throbbing for the past 10 hours!
Avatar m tn Health and Homeland Security officials announced steps to release some of the U.S. stockpiles of the anti-flu drugs Tamiflu and Relenza. They recommended that local authorities plan for possible school closures and that anyone with symptoms stay at home to reduce the possibility of transmission. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said it was too early to say what impact the outbreak could have on efforts to get the economy back on its feet.
Avatar m tn Despite an attempt to keep from catching the flu this year by getting my first ever flu vaccine, I did indeed end up catching it twice. Both times came with bothersome symptom flare ups that went on for days to weeks afterward. I *know* when I'm coming down with it right away, as it always hits me in the same place first every time. I can feel the fluid building up at the base of my throat and upper chest.
Avatar f tn i was about 7 weeks pregnant and went to the ER,they said they werent sure if i had the swine flu or flu but not sure so they treated me for the swine flu anyways because i was pregnant, they gave me tamiflu....i wanted to know if there was any risks to the baby from having the flu or from the tamiflu?
358304 tn?1409709492 Once you have the flu, vaccines are ineffective because it is prophylaxis (preventing it), but doctors can prescribe antivirals like Tamiflu and Relenza for treatment to help with recovery with both the seasonal and swine flu. My wife is also pregnant and half the doctors at her OB office want her to get the H1N1 vaccine and the other half have said not to, because she has never even had a flu shot before, so even doctors have differing opinions over this.
Avatar n tn Tamiflu is completely safe for pregnant mama's. I'm a pharmacy assistant, a dispensary assistant and used to be a medical receptionist and a practice manager. So I'm partially aware of what's safe and whats not (obviously not as advanced as doctors and pharmacists) but it is most definitely safe to take. It's generally used for Influenza though not just a common cold.
Avatar f tn 30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?
Avatar f tn Here the poor woman was living with her mother, taking care of her mother, and she was experiencing all the swine flu symptoms her mother had (duhhhhh!). She and her family were begging the hospital people to give her the TamiFlu but the hospital people refused to give her any TamiFlu because of her three negative Rapid-Flu tests, saying that the U.S. govt. required a positive Rapid-Flu test in order for TamiFlu to be given.
167426 tn?1254086235 Leslee had the flu shot this year, but her daughter that lives with them and is going to college developed Influenza A, last Tuedsay, Wenesday went to ER, dx with the flu, started on Tamiflu 75mg twice daily for 5 days, this put Leslee at great risk because of her immune system, after doing some research I found that the Tamiflu also is used to prevent flu, so I called Les and she went to her clinic today and they have now ordered the Tamiflu for her 75mg daily for 10 days.
Avatar n tn Agree with vaccine & tamiflu. Influenza can be deadly, especially to high risk groups like moms, seniors, newborns. Be glad medicine is helping, rest, don't worry about side effects if OB prescribed.
Avatar n tn told us that he was not eleigible to recieve a prescription for Tamiflu. Where can I find any federal or state restictions for eleigibility.
Avatar f tn Yes I took tamiflu when I was pregnant with my son it's on the lowest scale for harming you or the baby. In other words its safe.
Avatar f tn My OB called me and told me that as a prevention she wanted to put me on Tamiflu which is not recommended for pregnant women because the side effects are unknown. She said that the benefits would outweigh the negatives most likely because there have already been deaths linked to this strain of flu. The pharmacist didn't seem worried because I am 18 weeks along. Any of you ladies been put on tamiflu? Should I trust my doctor and pharmacist?
Avatar f tn at 10 I was running a high fever and felt horrible.. I was trying to give the meds time to work before I went to hospital, finally dozed off at 11 and woke up an hour later, no fever and felt a hundred percent better! Point of this longgg story is I agree with the above poster that go to dr and fet tamiflu ASAP!!! It worked better than anything ive ever used!! Hope you feel better soon!!
Avatar n tn Ive already started taking tamiflu and cough syrup with a decongestant. How dangerous is the flu to my baby. I know a high temperature can cause birth deffects. Luckly i havent had a fever. But what about the virus in general?
7714453 tn?1394714282 I'll have to go to the ER to just a prescription for Tamiflu then :( I feel so awful. My body hurts so bad.
6708370 tn?1471490210 I am using my hand sanitizer all the time, and trying to stay out of public places. Had to go to Social Security today to file for MediCare, and was paranoid about picking up a bug there. Take care my fellow heppers, we are all susceptible to these viruses with our immune systems being down.
6822962 tn?1396329659 I ended up in urgent care where they told me i got the deadly kind of flu. He prescribed me Tamiflu and was wondering if anyone else has taken it. Did you experience any side effects to you or baby. I am worried about my baby.
Avatar n tn For the last four days I been having flu like symtoms (fever, night sweats, body aches) , seen the dr. and he perscribed TAMIFLU. In what time frame would someone infected see symptoms if any at all? 2. Would you suggest testing and if so what test would be the correct test at 9 weeks. Would TAMIFLU affect the result?
6576704 tn?1383187473 Thanks so much for answering and yes i feel horrible super sick they did a nose swab and sent it out to get tested the precribe tamiflu cse the doctor said its high risk cse I'm pregnant u have to start taking medication withing the first 2 days
Avatar n tn When you are exposed a second time to the same antigens (by way of coming into contact with the actual flu virus), your body is able to recognize the disease, and the antibodies go into action to prevent you from getting the flu, or to lessen the symptoms and duration by basically beating down the virus. Tamiflu isn't a vaccine, nor a substitute for a vaccine. Tamiflu CAN be taken if you're exposed, or very soon after symptoms start.
Avatar f tn i wouldnt take nor recommend anything harmful. I caught a nasty flu bug that was going around my job.got extremely sick, vomiting, dehydration, fever, chills and aches. Couldn't keep liquids down and had to get IV FLUIDS at hospital. I was prescribed TAMIFLU and it helped me. My husband researched n talked w doctors before i took it. Being so sick was more dangerous for me than taking the meds. I have other high risk factors. From my understanding its a safe option.
Avatar f tn If you were worried about it you should have asked in the ER. Did you tell the doctor you are pregnant? The doctor would not have prescribed something that was dangerous to your fetus. Tamiflu has a very limited window of time in which it can help with your symptoms. You need to take it so that it will help you to feel better. If you wait too long it isn't going to do you any good.
Avatar f tn Me being 38 weeks and due with a c section next week my Dr prescribed me tamiflu to prevent me from getting sick especially with surgery in a week. I would assume it's safe to take...
