Tamiflu and the swine flu

Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu and the swine flu

tamiflu

Avatar f tn A woman in her 40s who was taking care of her mother (the mother was sick with the swine flu) was refused TamiFlu medication because she had had three negative Rapid-Flu tests (whatever they're actually called). Here the poor woman was living with her mother, taking care of her mother, and she was experiencing all the swine flu symptoms her mother had (duhhhhh!).
Avatar f tn d be a better than usual chance for these to mix. And KirbDude1, one difference between the current flu and avian flu or SARS is that this one transmits sustainedly human to human.
Avatar f tn i was about 7 weeks pregnant and went to the ER,they said they werent sure if i had the swine flu or flu but not sure so they treated me for the swine flu anyways because i was pregnant, they gave me tamiflu....i wanted to know if there was any risks to the baby from having the flu or from the tamiflu?
551343 tn?1506830518 t think it was the swine flu as the swine flu comes on quite suddenly and my symptoms came slower. I was sent to a Rheumatologist that diagnosed me on symptoms alone, no tests, as having Poly Myalgia Rheumatica, possible Giant Cell Arteritis, and possible Fibromyalgia. I had a biopsy of the arteries in my head for the GCA and it was negative. However, another doc said that because I had been on steroids the test would come back negative.
Avatar n tn hi... i have recently been diagnosed with swine flu and am on tamiflu (with two days of the course left to go) I have also got some kind of chest infection on top on this and my doctor has given me prednisolone steroid tablets and an inhaler. the chest infection is not getting any better (cant get in touch with my doctor till monday now) what is worrying me today is that my breathing is still bad..and any slight movements walking leads to coughing and lack of breath....today though..
905197 tn?1282232033 I actually just got over the swine flu 2 weeks ago and was on the Tamiflu. The baby and I are just fine and I was not hospitalized. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
599170 tn?1300973893 I am most worried for the elderly, the young, the immune comprimised. i missed the swine flu blog on here.....does anyone know if there should be extra concern for the pregnant? my sons gf is 14 weeks...am curious about that..
Avatar f tn I agree with whitie the major concern is children 5 to 17, secondly 5 and under, and thirdly pregnant women....... hardly the pattern we have seen with the normal flu. It is really important for everyone to get the "real facts" of how serious the swine flu is to the general population.... gosh I live in WA and one of our colleges of which many of my friends have children that attend and I have been around 2K of 9K tested positive for swine flu which made national news..
Avatar n tn she said that there WAS something going round, but no, it wasnt swine flu. so, now i know i javent got swine flu. the simptons i have are lack of breath, wheezing, and coughing. they usually keep me up at night. i get up in the darkness, and reach for my puffer, and puff myself a couple of puffs, and i breath in and out slowly. my mum usually comes in to give me some cough medicence, and paracetomal.
764229 tn?1322519884 i went to the er when 7 weeks preg. and they said since im preg and think its the flu or swine flu, they treated me for the swine and being pregnant does make it worse...i was so sick and didnt want to go anywhere for about 2 weeks, and if they perscribed you tamiflu...that made me start throwing up....i hope all is well and you get feelin better sooner.
457721 tn?1256640798 However, after a lot of thought and prayer my husband and I decided to go ahead and get our daughter the flu mist...and for me to go ahead and get the shot. My main purpose in even getting the vaccine myself was so our precious baby would be protected this winter! We aren't planning on taking her anywhere for the first few months to limit exposure...but those first few appointments at the pediatrician are unavoidable!
Avatar n tn I received my swine flu vaccine yesterday and I'm glad tha I did.
1029233 tn?1263966032 and early care if u begin to feel sick go to the dr. I am not sure about Tamiflu and pregnancy and if it affects the fetus or not.
Avatar n tn and, broadly speaking, if the glands in the throat are inflamed does it mean the infection is in the throat/face and inflamed glands in your groin means the genitals are infected? i don't want to infect anyone else obviously (as kissing and skin touching can transmit) but i also don't want to have an embarrassing conversation with a 'kinda regularish' partner i don't need to have. thanks for your reply btw! sorry for so many questions. just a bit worried is all.
982641 tn?1252025412 I was at the OB today and they gave me my regular flu shot. They asked if I wanted the Swine Flu shot, and I freaked out b/c I hadn't decided yet and I was planning to wait until October when it came out to decide. They didn't have it, it turned out, she was just asking, but she gave me a whole bunch of flu info and the Dr.
765070 tn?1384869794 so on Shepherd Smith they just had a teen on that was quarintined at home that has the swine flu and spoke to him via phone. The teen said that he had a fever of 102 for 1 day and mild symptoms and that thay are totally making this more severe than what it really is. He is taking tamiflu and is not allowed by the CDC that he is not allowed to leave his home until Monday. So, finally we heard from someone with this.
Avatar f tn I was a little nervous about getting the shot being that I am pregnant and all but I was just watching the news and this lady had the swine flu last year and she was 27 wks pregnant and she actually lost the baby but she was ok. The docs had to put her in an induced coma for like 5 wks. They did take the baby out but the baby didn't make it. After hearing this I am even more afraid of getting the flu.
Avatar m tn My son and his family just went through the flu in their home He and the baby had the tamiflu because it was within 24 hours of exposure to the flu bugs, but they had also had the flu vaccine (mist for her, shot for him). Mom wasn't so lucky - she had been exposed over 24 hours and coming down with it already and the doctors wouldn't give her the tamiflu. The other two girls got sick to varying degrees.
Avatar f tn If you have the flu you need to see your doctor. Tamiflu, a prescription medication, can decrease the severity and the length of the flu but you have to take it right away. Drink more water and rest - but first, see your doc.
Avatar m tn ve had pneumonia before and I also have mild asthma and it is far better for me to take a chance with vaccines, than to risk getting the flu or swine flu and I trust my physician more than I trust some type of natural..., unproven, herbal or chinese, or 'natural' medicine. That's IMHO.
478429 tn?1265244387 Well, after going back and forth and debating whether or not I should get this vaccine has really been tough on me. I recieved my flu shot yesterday and asked the PA what he thought of the H1N1 vaccine. He said to me "Honestly, you really need to get it being pregnant...The mortality rate for pregnant woman is now up to 50% and the vaccine may also protect your baby once born which is good b/c infants are too young to receive the flu vaccines...
Avatar f tn You have no other symptoms that would indicate swine flu. Remember that H1N1 flu is much like the seasonal flu, and is only worse in people who have a compromised immune systems. There is no treatment for H1N1 except Tamiflu which only shortens the duration of the illness by 1 day, so why even bother. H1N1 can lead to upper resperatory problems, and this is when you need to seek help. The media has blown this way out of proportion, many more people die from the seasonal flu.
4355200 tn?1354593144 t think why no one has offered any input. Are you sure about your flu shot. I had a flu shot last week and the pharmacist said it covers all three (whatever that means). The papers that came with it were somewhat similar to this: http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm315365.htm The thing about Tamiflu is that I think you are supposed to take it within 48 hours of *developing symptoms* rather than exposure.
