Tamiflu and relenza side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu and relenza side effects

tamiflu

Avatar f tn Does anyone know how old are the stocked Tamiflu and Relenza antivirals that the U.S. plans to use if this swine flu worsens? See my post above; if we don't know whether Tamiflu or Relenza past their expiration date [2 years for tamiflu] have still any efficacy, and we don't know how old or new the U.S. stockpiled quantities of these drugs are, then how do we know whether (or rather, to what degree) they are effective?
Avatar f tn I am 36 weeks and have the flu. I spoke with my ob last night and he said that he woukd not prescribe me tamiflu because pregnant women shouldn't take antiviral medication. He said to rest and get plenty of fluids and keep monitoring baby's movement.
6822962 tn?1396329659 I ended up in urgent care where they told me i got the deadly kind of flu. He prescribed me Tamiflu and was wondering if anyone else has taken it. Did you experience any side effects to you or baby. I am worried about my baby.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry about the late reply. There is little data about the effects of how influenzae in the mother affects the baby. There is some information that the virus can cross the placenta and affect the baby, but not all babies are affected in this way. The information about outcomes is also scarce: some studies have suggested the possibility of increased developmental problems while other studies do not confirm this.
982641 tn?1252025412 I recently read an article that said that overuse of antiviral medications like Tamiflu and Relenza could potentially ease the way for drug resistant strains of H1N1. The CDC and WHO are recommending that patients with mild to moderate symptoms should not take antiviral medication. Just a thought.
Avatar f tn 30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?
167 tn?1374173817 Oh Jen, what a dilema to be in. If it were me I would probably take the tamiflu. Part of the reason I am comfortable with it is that I have a huge amount of trust in my OB. I feel confident in her knowledge and comfortable with following her recommendations. I am more scared of the effects of H1N1 then the vaccine or tamiflu. That's me though and obviously you need to do what you feel is right.
Avatar n tn They can have some usually tolerable side effects. If they are started early enough they can lighten the severity of symptoms and shorten the duration of the illness by several days.
358304 tn?1409709492 Once you have the flu, vaccines are ineffective because it is prophylaxis (preventing it), but doctors can prescribe antivirals like Tamiflu and Relenza for treatment to help with recovery with both the seasonal and swine flu. My wife is also pregnant and half the doctors at her OB office want her to get the H1N1 vaccine and the other half have said not to, because she has never even had a flu shot before, so even doctors have differing opinions over this.
605648 tn?1249571427 at least for a while - i think it was the flu outbreak in 1978, but they hussled a vaccine and people ended up having some side effects.. so i just dont want to risk it.. I will try to stay away from sick people and use lots of hand sanitizer! but yea looks like its hitting pregnant women very hard (harder than the normal flu)... It was such a hard decision about work, but i just know if anything happened i would say what if forever, and it has taken SOOO much to get to this point..
Avatar f tn I have had for several days now facial pain more on the right side and traveling pain throughtout my body. I wake up feeling great and as the day progresses I start to feel run down, fatigue, my face starts to hurt, my lips hurt sometimes, then my head will start to hurt like it feels like its burning inside, travels in my toes, fingers, arms, legs, feet, hands and this will last for hours. Then I will be fine for a while and then it will start all over again. I do have UC as well.
Avatar m tn Health and Homeland Security officials announced steps to release some of the U.S. stockpiles of the anti-flu drugs Tamiflu and Relenza. They recommended that local authorities plan for possible school closures and that anyone with symptoms stay at home to reduce the possibility of transmission. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said it was too early to say what impact the outbreak could have on efforts to get the economy back on its feet.
Avatar f tn I've just gotten over the flu, I had it last week and didn't throw up until the next week. That was about three or four days ago I only threw up twice and it was very little. The medication they had me on was hydrocodone and tamiflu. I haven't had any more symptoms of the flu I feel better, but I still fear of throwing up.
Avatar f tn I had the vaccine as soon as it was available and have had no side effects whatsoever. I have seen my OB since then and all is well with both baby and me. I am a believer that pregnant women especially should be vaccinated, but I also respect that it is a personal decision. Keep in mind that it is essentially the same vaccine as the seasonal flu shot which has been used in pregnant women for years.
Avatar m tn Drug Safety both aspirin and paracetamol can severely damage liver so we should be careful to take the lowest doses, i also kknew about this in the past but i never saw which was the safe dose
Avatar n tn Tamiflu is completely safe for pregnant mama's. I'm a pharmacy assistant, a dispensary assistant and used to be a medical receptionist and a practice manager. So I'm partially aware of what's safe and whats not (obviously not as advanced as doctors and pharmacists) but it is most definitely safe to take. It's generally used for Influenza though not just a common cold.
Avatar f tn Mrs A Being in the uk i agree its silly my child was dx over the phone you are not allied to go out and the drs wont come out to you as they dont want to get it so you have a flu buddy who goes and collects the tamiflu if they feel you need it they felt we didnt, its been 3 days and she is already improving her temp has stopped and her bad headache and sore throat it seems to be a very mild illness in older children and adults the temp is the worst bit she was up to 41 c at one point but came
167426 tn?1254086235 Leslee had the flu shot this year, but her daughter that lives with them and is going to college developed Influenza A, last Tuedsay, Wenesday went to ER, dx with the flu, started on Tamiflu 75mg twice daily for 5 days, this put Leslee at great risk because of her immune system, after doing some research I found that the Tamiflu also is used to prevent flu, so I called Les and she went to her clinic today and they have now ordered the Tamiflu for her 75mg daily for 10 days.
Avatar n tn told us that he was not eleigible to recieve a prescription for Tamiflu. Where can I find any federal or state restictions for eleigibility.
Avatar f tn Yes I took tamiflu when I was pregnant with my son it's on the lowest scale for harming you or the baby. In other words its safe.
Avatar f tn About a year ago, I had a flu-like illness (fever, chills, body aches) and I went to an Urgent Care Center and was given TamiFLU, although I was not swabbed for the flu. The next week I woke up to get ready for work, but when I stood up I fell straight to the ground from severe dizziness. My vision seemed blurry and double, I had a low grade fever (100.3F), nausea, and a debilitating headache erupted.
Avatar f tn Get to a doctor and get a tamiflu prescription asap if you test positive. It took me almost a month to recover.
