Tamiflu and pneumonia

Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu and pneumonia

tamiflu

Avatar f tn If pneumonia, is this a new pneumonia, a pneumonia condition caused by the flu virus itself, or standard pneumonia(s)? If a standard pneumonia, will a pneumonia shot five years ago give any protection, and/or would one now give any protection? Also, will Tamiflu from 2004 still work?
Avatar m tn s no need to go back to the doctors so early just stick to their prescription and wait 2-3 weeks if Tamiflu doesn't work just throw it away and go back to the Docs and tell them. anxiety is collateral to all unexplained illness. if you have a bacterial infection in the throat or bronchi chew some sliced garlic. also throat antiseptic can help.
Avatar n tn She said my cough may turn into pneumonia or bronchitis and that may be worse then taking the meds. I never went thru this with my boys so I'm a little unsure. I did research and it seems safe. What are others opinion on this. I just feel horrible. I haven't been this sick in a long time and just the pregnancy is tiring enough. To top it off I got my 6 and 4 yr olds sick also...
Avatar f tn t realize how sick I had gotten and it turned into pneumonia. I was hospitalized for 9 days with it.
4250330 tn?1388621179 Yes, you could just have the flu and the doctor could offer you Tamiflu if they feel it would help you (normally you have to catch flu early for the drug to be fully useful). I'd double your fluids. Eating isn't as essential as fluid intake. And take ibuprofen for relief of headache and body aches. But in truth, I'd say to go get checked one more time. and be persistant that you are BAD off and would like more info why.
Avatar n tn 7 at its peak, hovering b/w 99 and 100.3 for 7 days). I have a cough now and tight chest, and have been diagnosed with pneumonia. I'm on Z-Pack and it hasn't brought the fever down so far, as it was supposed to within 48 hours (which I have been on it for).
4355200 tn?1354593144 In postmarketing experience, rare cases of anaphylaxis and serious skin reactions, including toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and erythema multiforme, have been reported with TAMIFLU. Tamiflu should be stopped and appropriate treatment instituted if an allergic-like reaction occurs or is suspected.
Avatar n tn Coughing is the bodies way of expelling extra mucus and if you suppress it, that is when it builds up and people get pneumonia or bronchitis or sinusitis (the secondary infections I was talking about). Does your daughter have a high fever?
Avatar f tn My daughter-in-law was diagnosed w/OVCA May 14, 2009. She went through 4 chemos, radical and brutal surgery at The Mayo, where they removed all female organs, 6-8" of intestine, and a grapefruit sized mass from her diaphragm. She's due for a scan 11/2, and to go back to Mayo in mid-November where they will check for cancer in lungs/pleura. She is stage four, and since surgery has had 2 more chemos. Today, she was diagnosed w/H1N1, feels terrible, and has 100.4 temperature.
551343 tn?1506830518 Supposedly a temp of 38 or above is a hallmark sign of swine flu. My mum had everything else but the temp and was given tamiflu. For three days she slept in bed, looked really poorly and had sips of drinks. By the third day she began to improve. At the moment she's poorly in bed again with a throat and chest infection. I think everybody should be checked for swine flu. My neuro put me on amantadine for fatigue, this was one of the first anti virals that came out for flu.
Avatar f tn But if you have a fever of 100 or more I would see the doctor or call the doctor and they may give you Tamiflu if they think it is the flu. Those are possibilities. If you don't have a virus then you are run down and need rest. But It sounds like you need another trip to the doctor to me as you haven't recovered after having antibiotics. It doesn't sound like walking pneumonia. Is that what the doctor said?
Avatar f tn With the flu,...in my experience,....you just gotta "ride it out".....don't try to do anything but lay around in your snuggly pajamas and rest....take some aspirin for your fever, try to keep hydrated with water and juices or 7-up (not sprite).....and when you feel up to eating something,....THE BEST thing is chicken noodle soup,...or cream of chicken soup.....there's something magical in that broth. Hope this helps......oh,...
Avatar f tn i was about 7 weeks pregnant and went to the ER,they said they werent sure if i had the swine flu or flu but not sure so they treated me for the swine flu anyways because i was pregnant, they gave me tamiflu....i wanted to know if there was any risks to the baby from having the flu or from the tamiflu?
Avatar f tn 30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?
973741 tn?1342342773 My wife and I tend to have very different experiences when we get sick. Now, we never have any idea what it is we have because we don't go to the doctor. We've had illnesses so often by now as we're in our sixties that we know it will go away. But I take stuff for it and she doesn't and my few illness experiences are much shorter than my wife's and much less intense. At least, so far.
Avatar f tn Mrs A Being in the uk i agree its silly my child was dx over the phone you are not allied to go out and the drs wont come out to you as they dont want to get it so you have a flu buddy who goes and collects the tamiflu if they feel you need it they felt we didnt, its been 3 days and she is already improving her temp has stopped and her bad headache and sore throat it seems to be a very mild illness in older children and adults the temp is the worst bit she was up to 41 c at one point but came
Avatar n tn Do not know if i was given antibiotics for bacterial pneumonia or antivirals for viral pneumonia and respiratory syncytial virus, from what i've read those could include ribavirin, tamiflu, relenza, iv antibiotics, amantadine etc. Took an elisa after 6 months of my possible exposure and it came back negative. 1) Does testing under any type of pneumonia viral/bacterial or RSV can give me a false negative?
167426 tn?1254086235 Leslee had the flu shot this year, but her daughter that lives with them and is going to college developed Influenza A, last Tuedsay, Wenesday went to ER, dx with the flu, started on Tamiflu 75mg twice daily for 5 days, this put Leslee at great risk because of her immune system, after doing some research I found that the Tamiflu also is used to prevent flu, so I called Les and she went to her clinic today and they have now ordered the Tamiflu for her 75mg daily for 10 days.
Avatar n tn Flu vaccine does not work. But Tamiflu is safe. Rest with plenty of fluids and it shall pass.

363110 tn?1340920419 I work in a hospital in a critical care unit right now we have a 25 year old with H1N1, pneumonia, AND strep B. He is on ventilator. I was on the fence about getting the vaccine and after I saw this poor kid I thought...I HAVE TO GET IT!!!
Avatar f tn Yes I took tamiflu when I was pregnant with my son it's on the lowest scale for harming you or the baby. In other words its safe.
Avatar f tn I am 36 weeks and have the flu. I spoke with my ob last night and he said that he woukd not prescribe me tamiflu because pregnant women shouldn't take antiviral medication. He said to rest and get plenty of fluids and keep monitoring baby's movement.
