Common Questions and Answers about Tamiflu and parvo and puppies

tamiflu

Avatar n tn Even if it is not Parvo, better to take what precautions you can and isolate the puppies. I suggest you give your Vet a call and ask for advice. Perhaps he can check the other puppies for you and test them.
Avatar f tn , all of which developed parvo and died. Then it spread to 7 more puppies that were too young to vaccinate, and I lost them as well. My vet tested with the Idexx Snap Parvo test and it was positive for parvo. I had other puppies that were vaccinated with another vaccine, that are fine and did not develop parvo, so I know it was this particular vaccine.
Avatar n tn try to sterilize wherever your parvo pup was kept and had access to the floor if possible, and try to keep Charlotte from being able to track any leftover parvo into where the pups are. It could go either way... you just never know if they'll get it. I'm involved in rescue and we've had litters born into foster homes where other pups had parvo in the past but the new litter never picks it up.
1843959 tn?1324629150 The remaining puppies need medical treatment URGENTLY! Parvo virus does kill dogs, and little puppies have least resistance to this disease. They will need to be hospitalized immediately, and probably given IV fluids and IV antibiotics. Without that care, they will certainly die. This isn't something that can be treated at home. If they get emergency care now, they have a slim chance of survival. Not all may make it, but I hope they do. Do not try to make them eat. Just get them to a vet.
Avatar m tn When you are sick you go to the doctor !its the same with dogs. They need constant care when they are puppies and sometimes when adult.Yes it sounds like Parvo.... all puppies MUST have thier inoculations it is critical as was getting this poor little soul to the Vets to save his life. Its called duty of care.
Avatar f tn be careful that your puppy does not have parvo.it's in season in the summer time. It is a very horrible sickness and can kill your puppy and also can give you an infection because of the germs it holds and it being able to spread so quickly.
Avatar m tn Parvo is akways a concern with puppies. This could be from stress, food, etc. try feeding cooked chicken and rice in smaller portions a few times a day. However, if the diarrhea gets worse, there is vomiting and the pup seems worse, do get it to your Vet right away and they can test for Parvo.
Avatar f tn Could a healthy diet prevent a puppy from getting parvo virus??? if so what may that be, what kind of foods or dog food should i feed them or what would you recommend...what type of puppy food would you recommend i feed my puppies when they first get there teeth...
Avatar f tn puppies shaking uncontrolably could this be a sign of parvo or poison? also panting and gums are pale.
Avatar f tn Puppies with parvo usually are not playful--they tend to be lethargic and have stools that range from soft and yellowish to dark and bloody. It is possible that your puppy could be in the very early stages, before the vomiting and diarrhea have begun. There is a very simple test for parvo that your veterinarian can run in the office to determine if your puppy has parvo. It takes less than 10 minutes to get the result. It may be worth having it done, so you'll know one way or the other.
Avatar m tn Being the owner of a pound puppy that survived his bout with Parvo, I don't think so. There is always the chance with any puppy but usually pound puppies are tested for Parvo before they are even sent home. At the least your vet should have tested her for it if she had any type of symptoms. Following an incubation period that averages four to five days (you had your pup for 3 weeks),the acute illness begins with depression, vomiting, and diarrhea (yours started after surgery).
Avatar f tn Apart from many other potentially dangerous illnesses your dog can get from other dogs and from their urine and faeces, the most dangerous and probably one of the most common is Parvo Virus, which is often fatal. You must make a decision to get your dog to a vet to have the full run of vaccinations BEFORE you let her come into contact with other dogs or their urine or faeces. Please do this urgently, as you are putting both your own dog and possibly other dogs at high risk.
Avatar n tn Bring a stool sample for each of the puppies, though they probably both have the same parasites. Pit bulls are susceptible to Parvo so Parvo vaccine is extremely important. At 6 weeks of age Strongid or Panacur worming medicine is safe, however it does not treat Coccidia or Giardia. The sulfur medicine is probably OK if they don't lick it off.
Avatar n tn Almost 6 yrs ago I was pregnant with my daughter and lost a dog to parvo. I buried him on my own and cleaned up the bathroom where I was keeping him because of the blood and diarrhea. I called the doctor and they said I should be fine but to come in that week so I did. Everything was fine. Don't over worry.
Avatar f tn s hard to say. You are indicating this is out of character? Puppies are usually bounding with energy and since this is a change, you need to pay attention to if there are any other symptoms going on. There are common things that puppies can get disease wise. Lethargy like you describe is one of the symptoms of many of them but there will likely be other signs. Parvo virus is a common puppy illness.
1456473 tn?1365827455 It is likely this is Parvo virus. It may not be -it may just be a bad bout of infectious gastroenteritis. But little pups like that are susceptible to Parvo which is highly infectious, and believe me (I don't mean to scare you but I have to be honest) -it can kill them. This pup needs to see the vet and urgently. I would beg borrow or whatever to get her there. Please call the vet before taking her in, and explain the situation.
Avatar n tn If your dog was never vaccinated for parvo than there would be a chance of parvo. Please tell me she has been vaccinated for parvo and you did not breed an unvaccinated dog! Pregnancy is very stressful on a body of any species and the stress can bring out dormant parasites, or increase susceptibility to other disease such as pancreatitis or colitis. Please have her evaluated by a vet!
1812469 tn?1316613488 s best not to mess with this at home if you want to give your puppy every chance of survival. Parvo is extremely deadly to puppies and the average pet owner just is not equipped to deal with it. Please take him to a vet, not only for a positive diagnosis but also to be sure he gets the proper care FOR that diagnosis. Please come back and let us know what the vet says.
Avatar m tn After a day of this, I took her to a well reputed vet, and asked for a thorough exam. Turns out, she had parvo virus. We caught it early, and she survived (had to stay at the vet with an IV), but this can normally be fatal. Not trying to alarm you, but it's best to get a second opinion and act on it quickly- I know that certain breeds are very susceptible to parvo if they haven't had their shots, and shepherds are one of them. Make sure all the bases are covered.
Avatar n tn My puppy has Parvo. We took him to the vet today and they gave him antibiotics and fluids, but he is not doing better at all. Has anyone had experience with this virus? If so, how long is the recovery and what signs should I look for that the meds aren't working? He is very lethargic and completely unresponsive. He will not eat or drink and has severe diarrhea. Please help as I am very worried about him and our vet clinic is not open for the next 48 hours.
Avatar m tn Hopefully you are not dealing with something like Parvo. Take the puppies to the vet!
1712422 tn?1443337501 Shots are not 100% effective. The parvo its self is not harmful but it is very common for parvo infected dogs to get a secondary infection that can be slightly harmful just because pregnant women are immunesupressed (sc). Take the sick dog to the vet for further diagnose, isolate your other dogs and be sure that they get a buster because they can get mildly infected. Disinfectant the house (floors, areas where dogs are mostly and dog dishes with bleach).
Avatar n tn my female rottwieler 3 months old. she is very sick. she keep throwing up her food. and she's very weak from not eating. she cant even walk any more. please help me what should i do.
Avatar n tn I would add that I recommend distemper/parvo vaccinations every 3-4 weeks starting at 6-8 weeks of age, and ending at 3 months of age in most breeds, and adding an additional vaccine at 4 months of age in breeds that are very susceptible to parvo, such as Rottweilers and pitbulls. 80 days of age is about 11 weeks, so the last vaccine may not have caused protective immunity. However I have also seen parvo in puppies that were completely vaccinated--as Dr.
Avatar f tn I recommend immediate veterinary evaluation; diarrhea, fever and not eating can be symptoms of parvovirus infection. Other possibilities include bacterial or parasitic intestinal infection. The veterinarian can check your puppy's stool for parvo and parasites, and based on testing and physical exam results they will be able to prescribe appropriate therapy.
Avatar n tn where he could contaminate my dogs with parvo? I have NOOO idea if thats possible or how parvo lasts and if he can just be a carrier or have parvo on him somehow, hope this made sense ;-) thks!
