Oh Jen, what a dilema to be in. If it were me I would probably take the tamiflu. Part of the reason I am comfortable with it is that I have a huge amount of trust in my OB. I feel confident in her knowledge and comfortable with following her recommendations. I am more scared of the effects of H1N1 then the vaccine or tamiflu. That's me though and obviously you need to do what you feel is right.

So the CDC came out yesterday with their recommendation that Pregnant women be the first group to get vaccinated because 13% of the people that have died of swine flu in the US have been pregnant women (much higher than in the overall population). They plan to have the swine flu vaccine (H1N1) ready in October some time.

Also, just as a side note about the H1N1 vaccine that I read about in an Associated Press article yesterday--if you receive the H1N1 vaccine, you will need to get a booster four weeks later. So that is two vaccinations in the period of a month of a vaccine that normally (seasonal flu) only takes one shot.

I have read information about their active ingredients and I would like to know if any asthmatic took the swine flu vaccine and if they did, did they have any side effects.

As far as the above post I can only say that the regular flu vaccine is new each and every year. The H1N1 flu is no different except that it will be against different antigens than the regular flu vaccine. The regular flu is made against different antigens every year as well specified to how they think it will change. Things in the lab have changed a lot since 1974.

When you have a live vaccine - your body sheds the vaccine through saliva, skin cells, feces and urine for weeks. Risking infecting everybody around you. In my honest opinion, the H1N1 vaccine is going to CAUSE the epidemic.

I got all the flu-like symptoms they said were possible and spent 5 days in bed. I am fine now, and have seen my ob since I received the vaccine. The baby is fine as well. Even though I reacted badly to the vaccine, I would definitely do it again if it means making sure my baby, other children and myself are all at a lower risk of getting swine flu.

Sounds to me like you have it. My sister and her 4 daughters all had confirmed H1N1 cases and they had the same exact symptoms. One addl thing my sister said was that she hurt so badly with body aches that she could not even type on the computer. All of them are fully recovered. It did last approx 2 weeks. I am 26 weeks preggers and saw her 2 days before she got ill. I was surprised that I did not get it. But very grateful.. LOL My doc gave all of his OB patients tamiflu rx's just in case.

CYW, because your son has asthma, he should definately get the H1N1 vaccine. He is at an even higher risk of having complications if he were to get the flu. I would be more concerned about him getting the flu, then of side effects from the vaccine. I wish we could get the shot here, but right now all we have available is the seasonal flu shot. I also would like to know what the horrible side effects people keep talking about are.

As far as the thimerosal found in the H1N1 vaccine that people say may cause Autism, the amt. found in the vaccine is less than eating a can of tuna. There also hasn't been extensive research to conclusively say that thimerosal causes Autism. In the end, it is an individual's choice and whatever you choose to do, I'm sure you're doing in the best interest for you and your baby.

I know it hasn't been studied that long, but my theory is that Tamiflu and such isn't recommended for p/g woman b/c of the unknown effects on the fetus. His TP clinic told him to get both flu shots and he did. I had the swine flu and he had to take Tamiflu while I was sick. He travels a lot and so that's very likely why he had to have both shots. ve super sick since yesterday went in to the er tonight and was told i have the h1n1 infuenza they told me i have to be put on medication wich is tamiflu but i am so scared for my baby I'm am 31 weeks pregnant and have two other kids has anyone experience this while pregnant and took that medication was it safe for baby?

check the expiration date on the tamiflu and a pneumonia shot probably wont do any good seeing as this is an unseen unheard of virus until now.

My wife is also pregnant and half the doctors at her OB office want her to get the H1N1 vaccine and the other half have said not to, because she has never even had a flu shot before, so even doctors have differing opinions over this.

) My children are 8 and 9, I had them each get the nasal mist for H1N1 with no ill side effects. I know of several people who have gotten the H1N1 vaccine and no ill effects. My niece got it and she got it for her 6 month old baby, no ill effects. My daughter has chosen not to get the vaccine and not to have my 10 month old granddaughter get the vaccine. She has flown here twice with the baby cross country during the swine flu outbreak and luckily neither had contracted a flu of any kind.

Flu vaccine does not work. But Tamiflu is safe. Rest with plenty of fluids and it shall pass.
