prozac

Avatar m tn For the past several years, I have been developing anxiety which at first I believed to be a form of GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), but more recently appears to be related to seasonal changes (SAD), since the pattern of anxiety begins in September and gets worse as the days grow shorter. My doctor has prescribed Prozac, 20mg daily for about 6 months and Xanax, .5mg twice a day as needed, 40 total.

Avatar n tn I am able to live with my attacks (which can get really bad at times) and I actually have a fear of taking meds. I think the only thing I will take is a child's dose of tylenol only when I have a fever or migrane. I have discovered that taking Vitamin B Complex capsules have helped reduce my stress and anxiety levels. Also, I still love taking Flinstone vitamins, on top of the vit B complex. I feel great when I don't miss out in taking one a day.
Avatar f tn Hello there! A lot of people are afraid to try medications. It's true that you don't know how you'll react to it, but honestly, Prozac has a pretty good track record. MOST likely the worst thing that will happen is that you'll experience some start up side effects, which will improve after about 2 weeks or so. Out of all the antidepressants, Prozac is one of the better tolerated. Be careful with the Xanax.
Avatar m tn hi im on adderall for refractory depression since april 7 im also also on prozac and xanax, how llong did itt ake for addderall to give u energy im noticing nothing but dry tounge and mouth.......dr upped it to 60 mg yesterday...
Avatar f tn When I first started suffering from anxiety, I was prescribed Ativan and it nearly ruined my life. I became completely numb, followed by episodes of severe anxiety. After one month, when I realized that the Ativan was making me sicker, I went of immediately. I suffered some withdrawal symptoms and later learned that going "cold turkey" was not a good idea. I began to get better, despite the withdrawal, but a few months later I had some very stressful experiences.
266195 tn?1215310411 I'm currently taking xanax, and will start prozac tomorrow. Does anyone know of any possible interaction between xanax and prozac taken together? My doctor says he's not aware of anything, But I just wanted to get some opinions from people who may have first hand knowledge or know of someone who does. So I guess do benzos and ssri's mix well? I really need the xanax untill the prozac can kick in.
Avatar f tn Im on 40 mg of prozac and 100mg trazodone and 25 mg vistaril now. I have been in therapy growing up and the therapist I had as a child wasnt very good I didnt care for her much.

Avatar f tn Is there a correlation between taking Prozac and weight gain? I have been on this med for close to 20 years and have steadily gained weight during those years (2-3 pounds a year). I wondered if it is the meds or just me!?!

Avatar f tn I am currently on 20 mg of prozac and .5 of xanax. The insomnia from the prozac is crazy. I have a prescription for trazadone but do not want to take because of the interaction with the prozac. Ive been reading about melatonin. Has anyone tried taking it for sleep? Did it help? And will the insomnia from prozac get better and how long would that take?
Avatar n tn I recently got off Vicodin on January 2nd. It became addictive. I've been on Xanax for 10 years and I am tapering. I'm taking 1-1/2 mg. per day and I started taking Prozac at 10 mg. per day a week ago. I am experiencing racing thoughts, discomfort with my heart beating, clammy, smoky taste in my mouth after sleeping, horrible Anxiety buzz (Which begins with the racing thoughts), sore temple, tightness in head.
Avatar m tn Out of curiosity, what makes you want to stop taking the xanax and start taking something else like Prozac? I did opposite in my experience. I was taking several when I was first diagnosed, but really hated it - now, with therapy, I have a prescription for .5 xanax and 20 lasts me about 4 months - I take it only when I absolutely have to. Good Luck. Oh, and no matter what always talk to your doctor about your different options and what the resulting benefits/disadvantages there are.
Avatar f tn So stopping them is the really hard part, not the side effects of taking them. Prozac is one of the easiest to stop taking but not necessarily the most effective for anxiety, but a good one to start with to see if it works. But if you have the discipline and are willing to work hard and since you are still functioning okay in life, I'd give therapy a good hard try or two first.
Avatar f tn I've been on prozac13 yrs, my therapist retired and isn't prescribing meds anymore just got cut off prozac and xanax can't find a doctor to prescribe my Prozac until I can find a new therapist close by. I'm ADHD(just recently discovered that) I suffer from anxiety and endometriosis. Its been around 5day's or so without prozac. Withdrawals are starting they will get worse everyday. I'm terrified and why won't a primary doctor give me prozac?
Avatar f tn hi since march 3 i have been on prozac and xanax i have depression and anxiety...im a bit bettter but my dr said prozac is very stimulating and im not finding that im still depressed and dragging around....are others on prozac and xanxax with luck.....dr is thinking of adding a amphetimine when i next go back to see him...im thinking like ritalin or something....its been almost a month shouldnt i feel better...does xanax make the prozac not help with depression or something?
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed Xanax and a low dosis of Prozac and said to give it a try because she feels it is anxiety and stress (eventhough I don't feel anxious or stressed out) that is causing the strange palpitations considering that they have done all the necessary tests and determined that my heart is healthy ha, ha.... I have not been taken the medicine because after I got home from the pharmacy and read all the side effects (sucidal thoughts etc.) I got scared and decided not to take it.
653169 tn?1303446369 I have history of major depression year round, but it is much worse in the winter. I was able to stop taking my prozac this last summer, but now I'm considering getting back on it because my depression is interfering with my life. The only problem is that I'm also having alot of anxiety currently. As I recall the prozac can initially make anxiety worse. Has anyone experienced this same reaction when starting an antidepressive? My other option is Savella.
Avatar f tn why would my dr put me on it knowing the xanax would affect it when he prescibed the xanax and prozac/...and i drank 6 non alkie beers the other night and felt like i got a buzz that is odd i have drank the stuff for 2 1/2 years with no effect..pharmmist said it might be that im on higher dose of xanx then i was the ativan.......or it was in my head a botttle has less thn 0.5 percent alchol by volume......
Avatar n tn If I had to stop taking zoloft, I'm pretty sure prozac and xanex is a no-no. Talk to your doc.
708731 tn?1229049180 I would look at the birth control pill in relation to your thyroid medication and disease, and also the consequences of mixing the birth control and the Prozac. You may find that switching birth control will allow for treatment other than Prozac. Just a thought, but I think it has merit. Keeping up on your bloodwork and getting stable at the correct level is the best medicine. If Prozac helps short term, go for it. I'm taking xanax.
Avatar f tn I spoke with my psychaitrist yesterday and he said to stop the Zolft and use the Xanax until my appointment next week. I have addictive behavior in my family. My psychiatrist and pharmacist both say that they have never heard such side effects with SSRI use.
Avatar f tn I dont know whats up im feeling way dizzy and my walking is worse than ever...have been on the xanax since tuesday night and the prozac since wed morning,,,i was on prozac last year and so i dont think its if unless its the difffernt branad before i was on teh 20 mg thee pills were two tone green these ones are blue..or maybe its the xanax..i was having walking problems before but now its bad..maybe i just need to get used to the xanax im not taking the 6 mg yesterday i took 3 mgs........
959034 tn?1253671476 I went off the Prozac and switched over to Lexapro. This has helped a lot with my general anxiety, and my psychiatrist has given me klonopin to help with the occasional panic that pops up. Prozac is approved to treat panic disorder, but it tends to have an "uppity" effect compared other antidepressants - and this can exacerbate anxiety.
Avatar f tn I don't think you got my point. I don't think it's good to take adderall if you suffer anxiety, and you don't take speed to counter the tiring effects of taking too much Xanax. This just sounds really nutty to me, and I don't see a safe way of doing it, but that's just me. I'd like you to see a different psychiatrist and see if this makes any sense at all, but that's again my opinion.
266195 tn?1215310411 I totally agree with lydia...that is such a low dose...and you have been on it such a brief time, but yes....double check with your doc. He/she may recommend a turbo taper plan, so to speak, just in case. Also, I just wanted to say something....there is a BIG difference betweeb being "addicted" to a med and being "dependant" on it.
