Am I increasing my risk for uterine cancer by taking the prometrium only every second day? Although I am able to take only one pump of the estrogel on a daily basis, would it be safer to take the prometrium on a daily basis also.
I am symptom free by taking them in half dosage.

My Dr has prescribed Prometrium 200mgs to be taken for the 1st 5 days of my next period. Everything I have read about this is that it is usually prescribed for 10 days before your period, so I am confused. Also, he mentioned that Prometrium will help protect me from endometrial cancer and possibly breast cancer. I read that it may increase the risk of breast cancer so I am totally confused.
Can someone help and offer advice? I am going for a 2nd opinion in December with another Ob/Gyn.

Bio-identical hormones are drugs as defined by "something you take to have an effect on your body". They often are more effective at alleviating symptoms of menopause, less dangerous, and often less costly than patented pharmaceuticals they advertise heavily on TV and in magazines.
Each patient is an individual. Some patients with a history of cancer, depending on the type (ER+ or not), can take hormones.

They're very reliable and cheap and you perform a urine test like a pregnancy test. This will show you if you are menopausal, that is, if your FSH is in the menopausal range over 25, but it will not give a precise figure like a blood test will.
Hi, I have been taking Topomax for migraines for 1 1/2 yrs with very good results, in the last 6-8 months I have had very irregular menstrual bleeding ( cycles of 11-15 days) along with some more symptoms that suggest that something is off ( brittle nails, tiredness, sweat episodes, mood swings, weight gain especially around the abdominal area ). I am under some stress on a daily basis (small children, work shifts with long hours waking up at 3 a.m on some days and sometimes coming home at 6 a.
I went through the saliva hormonal testing and found out that I am in menopause ....... being estrogen dominant. I am taking prometrium, 200 mg at night. My night sweats are gone - but I still don't feel energized.
My T3, Reverse levels are at 36 -- a little high with normal being 11-32 ng/dL. No meds were given to me on this.
Do I need to be on meds to keep this stablized? And I need someone to explain the Reverse T3 to me.
So he put me on Prometrium 200mg for 12 days. I started it on 5/2 and last night I began spotting. Then today heavy flow (mostly dark brown and kinda gooey) and cramps. I have 3 days left of the Prometrium (after today) and he had said I wouldn't start until 3-7 days after. The whole idea of me taking this is to regulate my cycle (it was either this or birth control for 2 months, but he said since I an TTC to try this first).
t get in to see the Dr. for another 2 months I started taking 1 and 1/2 mg of Estrace for another month. I still didn't notice a difference after another month of experiementing so I took another 1/2 of estrace. The 2mg dose of estrace seemed to help with the mood swings but the sweating and frontal hair loss has been devastating to me to say the least.The Dr.
I stopped the Prometrium for 10 days and MY BLEEDING STOPPED ENTIRELY so it has to be the Prometrium. I know I need progesterone as still have my uterus but am I the only one that is seeing this happen? I was told by Sott Pelle providers that a women minimally needs progesterone 14 days every third month. Can someone tell me their experience with this?
Prometrium is progesterone, and therefore if you are taking prometrium, a progesterone test will read positive. Were you taking the prometrium in your vagina or by mouth? Progesterone levels of 34 (if you are in the US) are a little high to come just from prometrium alone so I would have thought you had ovulated also. In Canada and Europle, the units used are different and a progesterone of 34 could be due entirely to the prometrium if you are writing from those countries.
d like it to be at 5 or 6 weeks so I gotta take prometrium for 12 weeks. Hopefully this will help baby nurish and prevent miscarriage.
I never had my progesterone tested when I was pregnant before I started taking supplements - prometrium 200mg/oral a day. It was prescribed for me after two miscarriages as a 'just in case' kind of thing (testing showed I have a blood clotting issue for which I take baby aspirin). I took the prometrium for the first trimester - and am now 30 weeks pregnant with a future soccer player! Good luck!
I have been on the minivelle patch 0.375 and progesterone 100 mg and although I am able to sleep I have lost a significant amount of bone density since I started menopause 4 years ago. It has not helped with keeping me from having osteoporosis. Even with bhrt, we are all subject to cancers as Estrogen is Estrogen regardless if it is natural or not. You have to decide is it better to look great while you age or risk your health. I am going to try weaning off the hormones and see how I feel.
It took awhile but it got under control and I now take only 2.5 mg of tapezole per day. I am still testing positive for antibodies so the endocrinologist wants me to continue. Last September I had my "female" hormone levels checked as things with my period were a little whonky - no period for three months and then three in a month. All my levels were within normal range and doc figured perimenopause.
I have also heard that if ur preggo with twins which I am its good to keep taking the prometrium to minimize the chances of premature labor. I want to know if I should stop the prometrium or keep taking it until my 12w checkup. What do u guys think?

I'm 28. I had 2 miscarriages, both lasted only 4w3d. I did all tests to find what was wrong. All results were normal, except a cyst in right fallopian tubes from HSG test. But my Dr. did not test progesterone levels so far. My period just started, my dr. asked me to take prometrium 200mg vaginally only after I have a positive pregnancy test.
I just started taking the prometrium 200mg a day i ovulated last tuesday and did what I was told to do... how fast does this really work is my question. My husband is excited and weve been trying for 6 years and well I dont want our hopes to get up! I'm 29 years old.
I am now on prometrium which is helping me sleep but does not relieve the anxiety, For the last month I have been taking an anti-depressant, I know some people think this is not the way to go but it is working for me, I now realise how low and desperate I had got. My doctor monitors me very closely and to be honest I really think they have saved my sanity. My husband, who has been wonderful through it all, now feels he has his wife back.
