Taking oxycontin for the first time

Common Questions and Answers about Taking oxycontin for the first time

oxycontin

Avatar f tn s some advice. You should be taking the OxyContin for persistent pain and the Percocet for breakthrough pain. Since OxyContin is a 12 hour extended-release formulation of oxycodone it can probably be reduced to just twice daily initially since there's only 24 hours in one day. Of course Percocet is an immediate release formulation of oxycodone and thus has a shorter half-life than the OxyContin. Detoxification from oxycodone depends on your level of pain and your desire to stop taking it.
680775 tn?1234871822 Ok. I'm at hour 24 (again) of a fast slow taper to cold turkey. This is my 3rd time in the last four months to begin detox. I have to get off these drugs. I'm honestly taking no more than 60mg's daily of a combination oxycodone and oxycontin. I need to get past the 16th of this month. That's when my next Dr's appointment is. I believe I can do this by myself and with the help of the community here. Am I kidding myself or should I take addtional steps to prevent a relapse.
Avatar m tn I have counted the minutes on the clock, but last night was my first sleep in days, and I have hope. This is all we need, is alot of hope. Remember what it was like without the devil in our lives. That is what is pushing me today. Keep me posted and please stay strong. Maybe we can do this together. I am lost, because I cannot tell my family. Embarrassed, but I will be here for you to help through all this pain.
Avatar n tn I know the headache it causes running out of pills and searching for more. I would do that over and over again towards the end of the month. The headache for the physical part of withdrawals will get much much better after 5 days or so. It's such a short amount of time! It's pretty much like a bad flu. Just try and look at it as just that. When you're sick you know you'll feel better after a few days. The same goes with withdrawals. What helped me the most was going for walks.
Avatar f tn First, try taking your dose without chewing - you will not get the buzz that you may get now, but the dose will go further. Try to reduce the amount that you are taking throughout the day - by half would be a good start. You may experience some discomfort, but that should only last a few days. Then when you get used to the reduced dose, try going longer in between each dose until you are down to only one dose per day.
Avatar f tn Once your body gets use to the drop in dose he will then probably drop you down to the 20mg, and then the 10mg. I was prescribed oxycontin in the past and when I was ready to taper off I had my doctor switch me to norcos and I tapered with them since they are a weaker pain med. It was by no mean easy but I tolerated it okay. One thing you may want to try is to just use the instant release and use those to taper.
Avatar m tn I started thyroxine (brand: eutroxsig) at 2am and the next day when i woke up i could barely move or speak (could slur out a few words at best). It was like someone had drugged me. When i was finally able to get up i had to go to the doctors office and was hit with extreme dizziness that lasted for 10 minutes but still mildly dizzy for some time after that. The extreme comatose fatigue was for 15 hours a day and lasted for a month. My existing numbness worsened as well.
Avatar f tn well i just started my 5th round of clomid and this time i am on 100mg for the second time i have also started taking something called plexus and its the drink and a accelerator i am taking this to help me loose weight cause this might be one of my problems of why i have not gotten pregnant again i have talked to a couple of people that are on plexus and they said it helped them with their hormones and ended up pregnant down the road..........
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm new here, searching for info similar to this... Having a very similar problem as well, testing positive for hydrocodone. The doc says it has to be lortab or dilodid -which I am absolutely not taking either of! (I mean heck, I can't take the whole doses of what they give me most of the time) I'm not taking codeine, though, but am taking Percocet, Opana ER, Lorzone, diazepam, Lyrica, & occasionally a Lidoderm patch.
1606386 tn?1301947494 Hi there! I just wanted to wish you all the luck in the world! I really hope and pray Clomid works for you. :D I've been trying for a lil over 8 yrs now with no luck. Everything is fine with me and my hubs, but we haven't been lucky in the conceiving department yet. I was on Clomid for 3 months. My side effects were LOTS of nausea, headaches, hot flashes and a brief time of vision problem. That only lasted about 15 minutes. I hope it works for you! Good luck! Take care!
Avatar f tn I am within the first day or so of oxycontin withdrawls and feeling pretty horrible. I am cold and sweaty, feeling soo down on my self and can't stop crying. I was actually getting ready to give in and get a pill until I found this site and started reading. Finding this has veered me away to looking for a pill to starting this post as a journal for me. I have been using oxycontin for atleast 2 years now, maybe even longer.
Avatar m tn There r too many kids with this condition and I for 1 know all the issues I had as a kid was the chiari eve the so called growing pains I had were the TC. I always had a very limited range of motion with my neck, which post op is sooooo much more than I ever had : ) Holding my DD to feed her as an infant was torture, the pain in my upper back and shoulder area....my balance issues......needing a hat when in the sun or I would get an instant HA.....I could go on.
Avatar f tn So this may explain more as to why your insurance company is pushing you off of Oxycontin as they are having to foot the bill for the brand name medication due to the discontinuation of generic Oxycontin. Before the generic Oxycontin stockpiles run out, they want you transitioned to methadone so they don't have to pay full price for brand name Oxycontin.
Avatar n tn I have FMS along with other issues such as ddd, severe arthritis, spinal stenosis, and possibly Lupus. I have been dealing with these issues for about five years - fibromyalgia was one of the first diagnosis. The only time I've taken OxyContin is after minor surger for about a day and a half, then I went back to my regular meds. For fibro I have found Lyrica to help more than narcotics. 90/month does not sound right to me either, but every case is different and I try not to judge.
Avatar m tn So all in all, the first 2 days are the only ones that sucked. The reason being is because of switching over to tramadol for the first week. Doing so tricked my body in thinking it was getting oxycontin for the first week but still able to get over the worst of the WD's without actually experiencing them. So i basically went through very very light WD's for the first week (almost unnoticeable) and then only had 2 days that really sucked.
Avatar m tn I was also prescribed Klonopin for the anxiety, but I literally felt zero relief from taking 1mg, and higher doses didn't help either. They just made me forgetful and tired, but I still had racing thoughts in my mind and anxiety. I have smoked weed for a couple years now, and that was always the only thing that helped, but it didn't cure it.
Avatar n tn Before being trully done with it, you must address the question of why you abused the script in the first place. Hopefully this is a one time slip for you. Just a warning, if you had purchased your drugs from the street, and not been perscribed, this one month binge would have cost you close to 15 thousand dollars. Its all fun and games till youre hooked for 500 bucks a day, then its just work.
