Some background information is that i am currently on 18 mgs of methadone from a clinic nearby. i have been taking methadone on a MMT program for a little over three years. i am sick of the ritual and want to be free of this drug once and for all. i would like some advice on the best way to be free of this drug. i have a job and cannot risk taking more than a few days off.
So my journey of getting clean started at a methadone clinic. Got put on 30 mgs a day and never went up. Went there for just over a year and felt great. I wanted to start tapering off weekly. they continuously told me that they can't do it just yet, kept telling me that I needed to get stable. I was taking or "doing" anywhere from 90-120 mgs a day of oxicodone a day previous to going to the clinic. I started to stop paying and they then started taking me down daily by 2 mgs.
Sorry, I said that that backwards! Taking Suboxone AFTER Methadone can make you very sick unless you're in full withdrawals and are at a fairly low dose of Methadone.
I just read your other thread where you stopped the Methadone at 160 mgs and started Suboxone two days later. That was wrong to do. Who's helping you with this? You need an expert,medically.

Therefore I stopped taking my suboxone and by early December 2012 I was back into full blown methadone addiction, taking 250 - 300 mgs daily. I knew I had to stop but couldn't get myself back onto methadone due to the fact I had to wait 3 - 4 days for the methadone to clear my system in order to start suboxone again. Sick and tired of this endless cycle I took my last dose of methadone on January 3rd and checked into a detox on Saturday January 5, 2013.
would it be safer to ween off with pain pills? I am just worried about taking the suboxone because many people have said subutex is usually given to pregnant women because it has no naloxone in it... I am confused. Why do some people say it's ok to take suboxone while pregnant and some same it's really bad? You do work with this drug don't you?

I am not familiar with Methadone, However my Doctor who put me on Suboxone to aid in my detox from Vicodin mentioned that Sub works for Vicodin, Meth and other things...(can't remember them all), but I do remember him saying Methadone. Anyway, My story is that I was taking 15-20 Norco a day and that equate to 30 to 40 regular vicodin a day.
I need to know if i decide to go down to 20mg of methadone then switch to Suboxone..will Suboxone help with my back pain?? I have a physical type of job and its getting hard to even work...I have a family and i MUST be able to work....I sweat ALOT 4 months a year.. Will Suboxone kick out of my system any worse than methadone when sweating?? Also paying for methadone is killing me my insurance wont cover it..
I am just confused because I have been doing a lot of online reading and it seems that people are saying that suboxone and methadone are HARDER to get off of (even with tapering) than oxycodone itself.
So WHY are there these treatments? Why aren't doctors just giving us help with weaning off oxycodone?
elvis - you asked about how long one must wait after taking methadone to take suboxone. Most docs want you to wait at least 48 hours after the last methadone dose before taking suboxone, otherwise there is a good chance of going into precipitated withdrawal because suboxone has such a high affinity for the Mu receptor and if there is another opiate on the receptor, suboxone can kick it off.
You're already on methadone and you really can't begin SUBOXONE until you're down to at least 30mg per day of methadone; last I knew.
When you see the doctor tomorrow, tell him you prefer to taper the methadone...if that's what you truly want. But as I said, you need to taper down to 30 mg anyway and that's well documented.
I used soboxone and had not quit taking methadone and had the worse time of it in my whole life. I had to go to the emergency room but eventually started getting better, started taking methadone again because I was to afraid to take the suboxone again. My question is , if you take the suboxone and go through withdrawels , does that mean you are then free of the addiction? Does that mean you no longer need to take methadone and have become totally free?
Im not sure how long its been since your dose of suboxone, but it always took me about 1hr before I would feel its effects. I was on methadone before going to sub, tapered down from 140mgs-30mgs, then started at 8mgs/suboxone. Im not really sure how methadone compares to morphine milligram wise, but if it doesnt help then talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose. You cant expect to feel great, but it should hold off the w/d's and cravings.
t have a choice about whether or not I go on Suboxone to withdraw from methadone, it looks like a really scary drug to me, I am on Clonazepam ( Klonopin ) and I want to stay on it while I am withdrawing but i dont think you are allowed to be on it while taking suboxone, what other meds are you on while taking suboxone?
I jus asked the same question subutex doesn't contain naloxone so u can mix it with methadone to stop taking methadone.
