Common Questions and Answers about Taking lunesta for years

lunesta

Avatar f tn I tried Lunesta a couple years ago...and honestly...I never had a chance to see if it would cause withdrawal or not. That stuff gave me a metallic taste in my mouth that was just awful. Lol. Evidently, that's a very common side effect and some ppl can handle it. I tasted metal for like a week after stopping it. Yuck. Lol. Anyway though, you might find that you only need it a few nights so it might be worth a shot to try it! Sleep never seems so precious as when we can't get any!
Avatar m tn I am on day 20 clean from pain pills i have been on Lunesta 3mg sleeping pill for 2 years will i have withdrawlls if i stop with such a low 3 mg every 24 hours
Avatar f tn It's 3 weeks since I've been having a pretty serious depression, including anxiety & sleeplessness. I was put on a new antidepressant LexiPro (15 days now), xanax as needed, which I only need to "take the edge off" when Im shaky, and Lunesta to sleep. This is the 2nd time I've used Lunesta.
1355301 tn?1287967641 Just remember that a) you may have a hard time sleeping for a couple of nights after not taking the Lunesta - quite normal and is called rebound insomnia - so you may not get a clear "view" so to speak as to whether it IS the Lunesta causing the "problem".
Avatar f tn If so, does it work for you, did it take a couple of weeks for it to help you? Any good or bad side effects? Currently taking 100mg for insomnia, but does not seem to be helping, only on it for 10 days. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I was taking Lunesta 3mg prior to the Lexapro for 1 1/2 years. With the Lexapro, the Lunesta was ineffective. The MD put me on 15mg of Remeron with the Lunesta and this really helped. In an attempt to ward off tolerance to Lunesta, I now alternate ( 2 weeks at a time) between Lunesta 3mg and zolpiedem ( Ambien) Since the zolpiedem has a much shorter 1/2 life than the Lunesta, I take 5mg about 11:30 and another 5mg at 3:00 or whenever I awake.
266660 tn?1189755834 Lunesta seems to work okay for me. I've only taken it three or four times (I only take it as needed and not on a nightly basis.) I was prescribed Klonopin for anxiety and sleep and she said to not take it with Lunesta (this is after I asked *her*, she didn't mention it until then.) The Klonopin seems to work as well as the Lunesta, BTW. Kevin, I've read that Lunesta and Ambien are the same "types" of sleep aids but that is all I know. I hope Ryan can clear this up for us.
1102799 tn?1269237714 I'm having a slightly different problem. I'm exhausted by bedtime but when I sleep, I'm up after 4-5 hours. After that I just toss and turn in the bed all night. Then I end up having to take a 2-3 hour nap during the day. But even when I skip the nap, I still don't sleep well. I thought it was just because I worked 3rd shift for years but I don't know. I don't have any helpful suggestions though. Sorry.
Avatar f tn hi, I been taking remeron for insomnia for 3 years, its been working fine until recently it stopped working completely, any suggestion on alternatives that can be taken long term like remeron???
Avatar m tn I'm a male, 31. I've been on 175mg trazadone and lunesta (anywhere from 1.5mg (half pill), 3mg (full pill), or 4.5mg - one and half pills). I usually do 175mg trazadone plus half pill lunesta for sleep almost every night. i've been on the sleep meds for about 2-3 months. Sometimes, i take just lunesta since I have retrograde ejaculation due to trazadone. I take these medications for sleep insommnia. They work. I also take propecia for hair loss (not sure that it's related).
Avatar f tn Xanax should help your anxiety, and I have been taking lunesta for a long time without any problems with anxiety. It seems to help me to take it. It calms me down better than anything besides my anxiety medicine.
Avatar n tn Please keep in mind I am not a medical professional, just an opinionated person who has dealt with sleep disorders for a lot of years. One opinion is that medication should not precede a definitive diagnosis, which would include a sleep study. Otherwise, how is one to know there isn't another underlying sleep disorder causing the insomnia? And possibly one that some medications could make worse!
Avatar n tn I take 20mg of Ambien at night for sleep. I have tried everything, including taking time off the medication to get it to work. However, nothing seems to be working. Recently, my doctor added Trazodone 100mg to help the Ambien work. Can anyone think of anything that would work like this?
Avatar n tn Each medicine would only let me sleep for four hours a night. So I am taking the Lunesta right now. But it is very hard functioning during the day as I am very fatigued. My body previously was use to getting 8 hours of sleep a day. Do you know of any other medicines that would help with longer sleep? How long does it usually take for the sleep to return on its own? I would rather being sleeping on my own. Any suggestions or help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I had intractable insomnia for many years. Nothing I tried worked. Then, by accident, I found I was deficient in iodine. I started taking 5% Lugol's solution (potasium iodide). And I started to sleep. Oddly enough I am not hypothyroid. The supplemental dose is 2 drops per week for smallish adults, and 3 or 4 for larger persons. The drops are taken on separate days. I find that I need more than the supplemental dose and as a small woman, take one drop per day.
Avatar m tn I have been taking zoplicone for years. My doctor told me to continue all my other meds during detox from oxyneo. To be perfectly honest, they are not doing a thing! I have a Fitbit that tracks my sleep and on average I get an hour and 15 mins sleep a night. I don't even think I get that. No sleep in 11 days for me no matter what I do. I think it's just a matter of time before our brains allow us to shut down. Detox is stress and stress equals no sleep. Patience is the only cure.
2021910 tn?1339896686 so when I was in the Er last night they gave me Lunesta a sleeping pill to help me sleep I'm 31 w 5 d n my mom told me its not safe...is it..I mean babys fine n stuff but the hospital wouldn't give it to me if it wasent ok right ?
526311 tn?1229286330 I binged but the good news is while binging for a week twice, after tapering for the 45 days I have not been taking the Ambin or the valium at all. I did take some benzos once during a binge because the pain of looking at my addiction was so painful. So for me it worked out. I had barely any sleep last night and the Ambien and benzos were right there and I didn't take them. It felt great I think it's time for me to flush them and suffer until my regular sleep returns.
Avatar n tn I agree with Mammo as far as the exercise during the day and relaxing before bedtime. I, too have to watch T.V. or read to fall asleep. Pure quiet is my worst enemy. I also use an air cleaner for white noise. I don't know which benzo you are taking, but there may be a better one for you. Ambien did nothing for me when I had insomnia due to anxiety. Neurontin (gabapentin) helps with sleep due to anxiety and has no dependence issues.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the info. I currently take Lunesta for insomnia. Been taking 3mg Lunesta for years. I do not abuse it and I never have, but I know I will have a hard time coming off. Trazadone sounds good. I am going to gather some information about it and talk to my doctor about switching.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have had POTS for over 2 years now. I'm 21 yr old female and was diagnosed when i was 19. I was doing great on all the meds and changing my lifestyle then i had a bad relapse of symptoms recently...worse then ever. i notice though when i do get a good nights sleep I feel more normal. For the past couple months i have not been able to sleep good at all. I wake up many times in the night. i have trouble just falling asleep.
Avatar m tn I have been on Lunesta 3 mg for 10 years. PTSD and Chronic insomnia following a MVA 10 years ago.. Also, just tapered off Lexapro I was also on this for 10 years and it took me 6 months to taper down. Been on 1mg Xanex for 10 years and stopped abruptly last week. Stopped the Lunesta 5 days ago cold turkey, and same thing with the xanex- Severe withdrawl symptoms appeared 5 days ago.
Avatar n tn I want something safe that I will only be taking for 5-7 days at night so I can sleep with the withdrawals. I have learned that Lunesta is not a good option due to the side effects. Thanks Susan.
