256553 tn?1258883918 If you go to any website on infertility or pcos it will discuss the use of Metformin. I have been on Metformin for pcos and have been on it for one year. It has corrected my FSH & LH levels and helped me to lose 25 lbs without hardly trying. The Metformin sensitizes the cells to insulin therefore lowering the body's production of insulin, which also then reduces androgen production. Once this happens, ovulation often resumes. I beleive that this is particular with pcos conditions.
Avatar n tn yes, check if you have pcos. you should be tested for this and not have your doctor assume a diagnosis as some do or dismiss. That is one sign (body hair) another is skipped/missed monthly cycles and weight gain that isn't easily lost. Your medication is a mask for pcos if that is what you have. If so you should be taking glucophage too.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS early this year and started taking Glucophage in January of February. Like you, I started on 500mg once daily, and quickly increased it to 500mg twice daily. I had a period within a couple of months, but by July of August I had become more regular than ever. I now have a period every 5 weeks without fail. I hope that answers your question!
623922 tn?1223406991 My DH and I have been ttc for over 2 years. I have been diagnosed with mild PCOS and mild endometriosis. I've been through one unsuccessful fresh and frozen ivf cycle. Because I can't afford to go through another round of ivf right now my gyn prescribed 500mg of Metformin to help with ovulation. I know that I ovulate but she thinks the Metformin/Glucophage might help me. Has anyone been on Metformin that can tell me what to expect?
Avatar n tn can i use another method to get pregnant fast or which things or activity youthink will be good for a PCOS girl to get ovulation back. do u think glucophage is helping drug for making eggs healthy and regular ovulation.
Avatar f tn Have you been to the doctor for treatment? They can give you meds to help you ovulate. Also, taking vitamin D supplements have shown to have helped women with PCOS. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I have since been dianosed with PCOS and undergoing treatment with glucophage/metformin. I am also being treated for hypertension. Since the treatment for the PCOS began, my breakouts with the Scleritis have decreased. However, when I'm not taking the metformin, I almost immediately get scleritis attacks. Does anyone know if there is a connection with the two? Also is there a way to remove the swelling in the white of my eye? it is lingering longer than usual and my vision is affected.
1500096 tn?1292945593 I used birth control pills for a year of which i had a regular cycle. I stopped using the pills after i got married and my cycle became very irregular. Since then, i've been unable to conceive. Any time my menstrual cycle becomes regular and i have sexual intercourse with my husband, menses ceases for months until i take some drugs that would be prescribed by the doctor.
Avatar n tn HI, There is no specific vitamin as a treatment for PCOS. However if you are trying for a natural pregnancy then folic acid can be taken. Weight loss gives dramatic results in women who are obese. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. Hope this helps.
1546050 tn?1293688410 Metformin is quite a standard treatment for PCOS. If this is the reason you were given metformin I think it would be a good idea to give it a go for at least a few months. I personally know a few women who had great success with regulating their periods on metformin (1 got pregnant on it). Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Hello, Most women with PCOS don't ovulate and thus cannot become pregnant. So the first treatment option for infertility is usually the administration of drugs to induce ovulation like Clomid. Secondly Glucophage or Metformin is an insulin-sensitizing agent that is sometimes used in conjunction with Clomid. Other than that, Injectable HCG, Hmg, FSH, GnRH and assisted reproduction like IUI, IVF, GIFT AND ICSI may also be used.

Avatar f tn I have PCOS too. I went 3 years with no period. I was put on yasmin and glucophage to regulate my period. I have dropped the birth control pill and am now on "Metphormin" (Ask your doctor about it) It has kept me on a regular 29 day cycle like clockwork--cept for this month...we are hoping it's a positive test! I still am taking the metphormin (Generic to glucophage)..I take 500 mg twice a day.
Avatar m tn I also started taking birth control again. My doctor also prescribed taking metformin(glucophage) in addition to the phentermine and birth control. I have lost about 8 pounds in the last month since taking the phentermine but i dont feel like I am losing enough weight for how little i have been eating.
1907238 tn?1340711313 Met formin is the generic for glucophage, which is a diabetic medicine. Its primary use helps you digest sugars more efficiently and can assist in weight loss, but be careful it can also assist in weight gain. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet while you are on it, or else it might have reverse affects.
Avatar f tn I have pcos and have had cramping, bloating, and pain for over a week. last period in June, pregnancy test neg. what could cause all this?
Avatar f tn Metformin (aka Glucophage) is a diabetic drug to treat diabetes. It is also used to treat PCOS. If you have neither why on earth is he having you take it?
Avatar f tn I need to find a PCOS specialist. I have always missed like one or two months of my period. I started taking Glucophage and Byetta. My cycle started to come down on a monthly basis. I got off of both these medications maybe 8 months ago and now I am back to the missed months again. I am also taking Maxide for my high blood pressure and I take it every single day, faithfully. In Januray my cycle was fine (usually lasts 4 days) and then in February, I started seeing lighter menstruation.
Avatar n tn My doc say that I have PCOS, irregular periods ( from childhood), metabolic syndrome and other symptoms. It's seems to be hereditary. She prescribed Glucophage, and I took 2 tab each 500 for a year. Did not cure me, infact I felt worst. I also have high cholesterol, but don't eat meat and jog 3 miles almost 5 times a week. I am prediabetic and very likely to get heart disease stroke and other fatal complications as I grow older. Please advise me how to cure PCOS.
Avatar f tn I have PCOS too. I was diagnosed with it about 8 years ago. In dealing with my PCOS I've found that there is nothing predictable about it. At the heart of the matter, PCOS is an endocrine disorder, which basically means it messes with your hormones big time. It actually goes a LOT deeper than that and is something which I cannot fully explain because I just don't fully understand it. Nor do any of the experts so how can we?
Avatar n tn a year later(i was 19),i consulted a endocrinologist n after blood test and scanning,he confirmed that i was having PCOS.he prescibed glucophage for a month n asked me to watch my diet n exercise regularly.i followed his advice n started losing weight, two months later i got my period n that was it for that year.demotivated,i gradually stopped everything..
Avatar n tn I am not sure if I should continue to be treated for hypothyroidism by the naturopathic doctor, or should I go to my PCP and further pursue treatment for PCOS? Any advice would be much appreciated as I feel overwhelmed and extremely concerned. Thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn Hi, im 24 and i was diagnosed with PCOS, i know many young ladies with pcos and its very common, i know for a fact that its not impossible to concieve. take it easy and keep in mind that if after 1 year has passed since youve stopped all contraceptives then start taking ovulex or other medications. we're still young and thats what we have going for us. i know how hard it is to anxiosly wait to see that positive sign on the pregnancy test. and it will come.... :) give it time oh...
Avatar n tn I just need some guidance on what to do next. I have also been tested for PCOS and my insulin resistence tests both times were within normal limits although I do have some symptoms of PCOS, but the RE said that I don't need to worry about that because there is no problem with that. Please give us some advice as to what to do next. Thanks in advance.
