Taking concerta with ritalin

Common Questions and Answers about Taking concerta with ritalin

concerta

Avatar n tn We actually tried Concerta when he was 6. It made him really mean when he was coming off of it and he had a really hard time going to sleep at night. We also tried Ritalin LA (long acting). For some reason his body metabolizes it fast. It wasn't long acting at all. We want to go to one dose a day because he doesn't like being singled out @ lunch to take his meds because Kids are starting to ask questions.
Avatar f tn Tried ritalin (normal), ritalin SR, Concerta and amphetamine. Concerta gave me something but felt something missing, normal ritalin was terrible, OD and came into "cocain waves" (very high, and straight to the bottom), amph gave me more but I didnĀ“t eat, and felt a bit anxious, ritalin SR was, and is my favourite, works as a charm.
Avatar f tn Hi Bill! Wow - 54 mg? Did you start off on a lower dose? That sounds awfully high... I've been on methylphenidate for about three years. (I take the brand Ritalin, but I'm pretty sure Ritalin and Concerta are about the same thing.) I started off on 5 mg, three times a day (of the non extended release) and I got a lot of benefit from it.
Avatar m tn You might try a stronger dose of ritalin. It would be out of your system in 4 hours instead of 8 (give or take) with concerta. Adderall is a amphetamine while ritalin/concerta is a methylphenidate. The symptoms should ease at night when the meds no longer in system. If the symptoms are still there, it may not be related. Could be an ear problem that just happened at same time? Hope this helps a little.
2083581 tn?1332307861 Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn My 9 year old son has been on 18mg of Concerta for three years now and it's been great for him. Unlike Ritalin, Concerta is taken only once in the morning so it starts to wear off in time for dinner and definately on time for going to bed. The problem with Ritalin seems to be that it's a difficult come down and makes going to sleep at night very uncomfortable. Concerta has been great for my son.
Avatar f tn I am taking adderall as apart of my treatment with bipolar and adhd. I also take neurotin 3xs a day and klonopin 3x's a day. I was just wondering has anyone taken adderall and ritilan and was there a big difference in the 2? I only ask because my insurance doesn't cover the adderall but it does ritilan. I really don't want to mess with my medication regime but if there isn't a huge difference in the 2 then finacially.....
Avatar n tn --ENERGY DRINKS DONT GO WITH RITALIN/CAFFEINE DOESNT GO WITH RITALIN//HERBS CAN BE DANGEROUS AND ALTER THE EFFECTS OF RITALIN VERY DANGEROUS----MANY OVER THE COUNTER THINGS///ALCOHOL//EVEN SOME FOODS WITH SPICES COULD BE BAD IN PEOPLE SENSITIVE TO RITALIN OR PEOPLE WITH UNKNOWN ALLERGIES-------NEVER EVER TAKE RITALIN WITHOUT A DRS INSTRUCTIONS--IF U TAKE RITALIN FROM YOUR DOCTOR--FOLLOW YOUR DOCTORS INSTRUCTIONS/READ THE MANUFACTURER'S WARNINGS WITH YOUR PRESCRIPTION!!!!!
Avatar m tn (He never had ADHD by the way, just ADD, he never had the hyperactivity) He is 31 years old now, 10 years since he was diagnosed with Attention Defecit Disorder with Anxiety Disorder. He still takes his Ritalin every day, but is going to be weaned off them after he finishes University........he is just going into his third year of an engineering degree, and is doing a Masters due to his First grades in every unit. Im so proud of him and hes come so far.
636964 tn?1222990085 The SENCO at my sons junior school told me that once, that these drugs won't work if the person doesn't have adhd/add. I know my son didn't have side effects with ritalin but does with concerta. Also a doctor told me once there are 7 kinds of adhd. from very hyper to very withdrawn.
Avatar n tn my son have now been put on adderall 10 xr ,that had no effect so the doc said up it a little bit so now he is taking 20mgs a day xr-still no difference in his behavior.do we up the meds again.
Avatar m tn I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily. It has been now one month and a half that I began reducing the dose and I am into my second week of not taking the drug at all. However, I am still experiencing very bad withdrawal symptoms, extreme fatigue, deep depression with suicidal thoughts, and complete lack of motivation and focus. I wonder if anyone out there has had this experience with Concerta.
Avatar f tn My 9 year old son hs developed a tic, I believe, from taking ritalin for atention deficit disorder. He did well all year in school, and I stopped giving him ritalin one month ago when school ended. It seems he has developed this tic of rolling his eyes after stopping the medicine. Does anyone have any advice? We have tried many different medicines- concerta, metadate, all wioth severe side effects with my son, so do not want to keep trying defferent medicines.
Avatar f tn while coming off of concerta. The obvious answer would be stop taking it, but it really does help with my focus before it begins to wear off.
Avatar f tn m sorry nobody has answered your call for help! Hopefully somebody here is familiar with Concerta. We are all addicts or are loved ones of addicts trying, as you are to get help. First of all, please realize if your son is taking too much of the medication, and exhibits exaggerated behavioral changes, then there is a problem -- regardless if he's addicted or not. This is at the very least an indication that he's abusing this medication, not necessarily that he's addicted to it.
Avatar n tn The only thing I know for certain about methylphenidate (Concerta/Ritalin) is that ONE of the contraindications for taking it is.......ANXIETY. I would strongly urge you to speak with your p-doc about going on this medication. The escitalopram, (Lexapro) an SSRI, is prescribed for major depression, GAD and it's unlabeled uses do include panic disorder. I have no way of knowing how you would react to this med, and I'm pretty sure your doctor doesn't either.
Avatar m tn I tried provigil, stratera, wellbutrin, lexapro, celexa, Prozac, paxil adderal, and concerta. Concerta is ritalin (methylphenidate hcl) but the delivery system is different and is supposed to be more effective but it's wicked expensive. My medication doesn't make everything all better for me. I'm not able to go out and do normal things just because I take the pills. I was never able to just do normal things. The medication does make things much easier but it doesn't work magic.
Avatar n tn t just ask for Adderall because I thought that I had ADHD. I am no longer with the doctor that I was with over the summer. I have not been taking my anti-anxiety med since starting Adderall, but that is because my doctor didn't mention to me if I should stop taking it.
Avatar f tn Yes I was diagnosed with ADHD. My sleep has always been good even with Concerta. If I am depressed, I am not more depressed now than I was before but the difference is my personality. Here are the studies that suggest long term effects, let me know your thoughts. They are mostly for Ritalin http://www.medicaldaily.com/long-term-ritalin-use-adhd-may-worsen-symptoms-and-reduce-drug-efficacy-245927 http://www.thefix.com/content/research-shows-ritalin-causes-long-term-brain-injury. . http://www.
Avatar f tn was diagnosed with adhd about 2 mos ago and my doctor put me on 36mgs of concerta it seems to help with the impulse control, but I am still having an issue with my mind being in a thousand different places. I also have a seven year old son who was also diagnosed with adhd about a week ago and because of his size he is also on 36mg of concerta and it is making him calmer at home, but when I talked to his teacher today she said that she is not seeing any improvement at all.
356518 tn?1322263642 I have seen to many horror stories on it. Including my own family memebers. My son is ADD and is on Concerta... Concerta is great... It is as close as you can get to ritalin and it not have the bad effects like ritalin. Maybe you should try it. It is expensive though. the 27mg dose is like 100 CDN a month. But works well.
Avatar m tn Thanks, this is all new to me. I've always just dropped of the script and the pharm would tell me when I could pick it up, no matter which pharmacy it was. Of course my anxiety went up after thinking, "why didn't they just hold on to the script and tell me when I could pick it up?" Now I have a script, with writing on it, and that can't look good. I told the staff at the doc how I still have the script.
