Taking chantix and lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Taking chantix and lexapro

chantix

Avatar f tn iagree, everyone reacts differently to taking chantix and even though i have quit for over a year and a half one of those many times i tried it.i always found that eventually the desire to smoke always becomes back to overwhelming at some point. so it is either that i am suffering from some sort of generalized anxiety, which I've dealt with on and off all my life, weakening me at times or... the chant has a permanent affect on you're brain chemistry forever!.
1609058 tn?1298089127 I've had an awful experience that I must share and find out if anyone else has gone through it. I currently take Lexapro 10mg, a mild antidepressant, and it's wonderful for me. A little over a month ago, I requested a prescription for Chantix to quit smoking. Even though I'd heard lots of negative things about the side effects, I thought it was worth trying. After 4 weeks of taking it, I did notice that my mood was being affected, so I decided to stop taking it.
984138 tn?1359813073 DON"T DO CHANTIX. My son, 19, took chantix for 3 months and the research was not done on young people. He did quit smoking but at a great risk to his health. It has been 10 months of hell since he went off the med. While on the med he has mild side effects but after many blood tests, a positive ANA and anxiety/panic attacks - he is slowly getting healthy again. We did not do our homework and the result was a very sick young man.
Avatar f tn t even drive. Finally now, he is seeing a therapist and taking lexapro and we are starting to see his old self back. The therapist has said that these symptoms are more common than not and he has treated many before my son. He explained that chantix rewires the brain and that effects more than just the urge to quit smoking - many other receptors are affected. Who knew? Good luck.
Avatar f tn So right now I am currently taking ziprasidone 80 mg, chantix 1mg, topamax 50mg 3x day, and ropinirole for side effects 1 mg once a day. I can't believe I actually made it through the night last night. I had some psychosis and was up all night long, but laying and I had the shakes at first but I'm actually proud I made it through the night without popping that pill. Took my medicine this morning and slept for about 5 hours and no psychosis, hallucinations or anything.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
729288 tn?1251254433 I will pay the $215 on monday for my shipment then I am waiting the 2 weeks suggested and beginning. Here is my question. I am also on chantix.. the stop smoking drug. I really need to stop because I think 27 years is long enough to smoke for anyone. Does anyone know if it will have any kind of reaction? My doc told me to go ahead it wouldnt hurt me.
Avatar n tn my wife is taking chantix to stop smoking and when she finishes the first month of chantix can she then take welbutrin as it is not as strong. The chantix is giving her bad dreams.

Avatar f tn I talked to my doctor about taking Effexor XR and Chantix at the same time and he said that its not a good idea because its almost like overdosing on the medication. So Im trying to find other ways to help me quit.
407029 tn?1253992623 does anyone know if chantix is hard on the liver? im taking it to stop smoking before TX? anyone knows of anyone who took it does it work?
Avatar m tn I would ask your doctor if it is metabolized in the liver or the kidneys - thats generally one of the ways we figure out what we can take or not. "CHANTIX should not be taken with other quit-smoking products. You may need a lower dose of CHANTIX if you have kidney problems or get dialysis." It looks to me like it's the kidneys but ask a doctor to be sure about that and any other problem we might not think about as patients.
286124 tn?1214938528 I am taking chantix and was prescribed lortab for my back.
Avatar f tn I started having cravings again and broke down and paid for a re fill. That first pill worked fast and really helped with any cravings. I will take it as needed for however long and try to always have some on hand.
Avatar n tn This is my second time taking chantix and I have been experiencing tenderness in my breasts. Being that I too have had a partial hysterectomy 5 years ago I looked into if in fact I can still get pregnant and just fyi you can and it can be very harmful but this seems to make a bit more sense. They don't necessarily hurt just sore and can definitely tell they are a bit enlarged which is kind of nice. Much better than finding out you are pregnant. I'll take this as a side effect!
Avatar m tn By the way, you can always tell that a drug is affecting brain neurotransmitters when you see those warnings they give out, as you do with Chantix, and they warn that they can cause suicidal and violent thoughts and the like. This warning is a dead giveaway that the drug is affecting similar things that antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs and anti psychotics are playing around with.
Avatar n tn i have just started taking it and since i have been on it ii have been having seizures.
Avatar f tn She gave me a prescription for a strong anti inflammatory and we made a follow up appt for 6 weeks later. About the same time I also started taking Chantix to quit smoking. The nausea was so bad that I almost quit taking the meds..but then I started taking a Parsley suppliment along with the Chantix to combat the nausea. My next period which was roughly 3 weeks later was NORMAL! No excess bleeding...no crippling cramps and no pain while using the bathroom.
Avatar m tn Hi~I have been on anti-depressants but not at the time I took Chantix. I would even call the pharmacist and ask if there is potential for problems taking both together. I did have major side effects-mostly nightmares, bad sleep, bad stomach aches and nausea so I stopped it before I quit smoking. I have started it again just two days ago. I am taking it at night with over the counter sleep aid because I know that was the hardest part. It also makes me a little cranky.
Avatar f tn Hello! I was also concerned about the depression and the Chantix affecting me, but my doctor said that the likelyhood of feeling suicidal or more depressed is quite remote, so I decided to give it a try and would quit if I felt awful. I know of a few people who used it and actually claimed to have become "homicidal" and felt extremely angry and violent. Both of these individuals were very, very heavy drinkers, and I am certain that is why Chantix affected them that way.
Avatar f tn I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
432312 tn?1265644974 t disclose this to her new GP. After a month of taking the Chantix, she ended up in hospital for 2 weeks, highly suicidal and having swings. She refuses to acknowledge that she has BP though and blames it solely on the Chantix.
Avatar f tn I took chantix for 1 1/2 months and experienced a little gas but that was all. I quit taking chantix 3 days after my last cigarette and that was 9 months 1 week and 4 days ago. I think I should consider myself one of the lucky ones as all I hear on this board is how bad chantix was for them! Outside of this board, I knew a dozen or so people who took it, and none of them had anything more serious then gas and bad dreams! I hope you start feeling better real soon and I hope that you have quit.
444932 tn?1273980797 When I read on the Chantix quit line that if you failed the first time, to just keep taking your Chantix and set another quit date. So I did, and I will try, and maybe it will work, but I like what you did and can only hope that that is the way it will finally work for me too. That just little by little, over time, those urges WILL begin to fade and I can see that I'm smoking less and less and will just one day, like you say, "that's it!
Avatar f tn I was taking Chantix for about a week and a half when I had to quit it because I was experiencing depression which was getting worse by the day. This is going on the 2nd full day of no Chantix but I am still feeling depressed. I want to know how long does it stay in your system for. I woke up today and felt close to normal and then it came back again.
Avatar n tn I have a twin sister also used the chantix and is going through the exact same thing. We need help and do not know what to do - we seem to have the doctors stumped. PLEASE help.
Avatar f tn You might want to consider asking your doctor about chantix, but that depends on whether or not your taking anything else, and if you do go that route, do your homework.,,, ALL of these drugs have potentially seriouse side effects that should be carefully monitored by somone close to you most the time so they may report any strange behavior incase you cant.
