Avatar f tn However, if you vary significantly on some days, those days will have either too high to too low a coagulation result from your medication. I do very well with Warfarin, and I take a multi vitamin every day that in fact contains some "K", but I take the exact same amount every day and I try to have some salad or other "K" containing food each day to keep my intake near some regular (unmeasured) level. I take 5 mg of Warfarin every evening, before going to bed.
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar m tn These visits come with their co-pays and deductibles too! Not to mention that warfarin has significant risks, drug interactions, food restrictions etc. And overall: you have to think of the worse case senario of switching to warfarin having the warfarin be too strong and your wife getting a bleed of some kind. This could be in her GI track, brain etc. and can be very life-threatening and could cause huge hospital bills.
1796911 tn?1315605346 I also eat some fruits that thin the blood so I can take fewer doses of the rat poison (warfarin). I would rather thin my blood with food than drugs. If you would like a list of fruits that thin the blood just ask me. You have to be consistent with any food so as not to change your INR to much. Just make sure you speak to your doctor first.
Avatar n tn dshays... that happened to me the first time they put me on blood thinner...coumadin..warfarin.. but dont know if your husband would be on blood tghinner after surgery...probably not..
Avatar m tn or reduced dose. How does your stomach do on regular aspirin? Take with food may reduce irritation.
Avatar m tn t see how they could treat with warfarin under those circumstances. Anyone taking warfarin must be monitored routinely with a PT to check clotting factor. Warfarin can be some nasty stuff but if reduces fibrosis what the heck. They've thrown every other drug at us and we still keep bouncing back. Thanks for the info.
Avatar f tn With AFib you need some anticoagulant protection. A better protection is to use Coumadin or Warfarin. They require a prescription, but the generic Warfarin is available at very low cost, e.g., Walmart. The bigger cost for being on an anticoagulant is getting the blood tests to be sure the level of medication is right. But given you can't take aspirin (did you take them with food?), there doesn't seem to be another choice. I do not know anything about Ginseng...
Avatar m tn Pradaxa is taken twice a day, shorter life in the body and is cleared from the body quicker than coumadin (warfarin). With warfarin, Vitamin K is used to reverse overanticoagulation in patients, there is no antidote for Pradaxa. Warfarin a lot cheaper than Pradaxa. Good luck with your ablation. Hope you do well on Pradaxa! Best wishes!!
Avatar m tn I am male 60yo have afib.I take warfarin and have been told painkillers mess with INR.
Monster I have been taken off Warfarin, prescribed after surgery. I possess 14 2.5mg tablets. What is the safest way for me to dispose of them?
Avatar f tn I have been on plavix for years with no problem but this warfarin is messing with me big time. I have been dealing with migraines for a couple weeks and after the first dose it seemed to help..even when i got up i felt much better not like my whole circulation was contricted like it normally does...same this morning...but i also had a headache yesterday that felt different that developed..
Avatar f tn I have recently been put on Warfarin for Paroxysmal Atrial Fib. I feel miserable and anxious on this drug. They continue to up my dose, 11mg. at present. I have decided to quit the Warfarin but wonder how to go about this. Do I quit cold turkey or taper off? Anyone else has quit Warfarin and how did you do it?
Avatar f tn What was the underlying cause of your congested heart failure? What specifically is the cause for a valve replacement? With a very experienced surgeon many valve operations can be done that doesn't include replacement. Long-term, low-dose treatment with warfarin may prevent clots, but it's not without risk. There's a risk of serious or even fatal bleeding — especially when warfarin is taken in high doses or for long periods of time...
Avatar n tn Thank you for your answer. My cardiologist mentioned stopping the warfarin and going with lovenox for 3 days prior to a catherization but said there was no need to stop taking plavix.
Avatar f tn I take warfarin everyday. I had aortic valve replacement in 2001 and had an artificial heart valve installed. The downside to that is I will have to take blood thinners for the rest of my life because of the artificial valve. That is not the case with a tissue valve. It has really not had any affect on me at all. The one thing that I know warfarin affects is Vitamin K. Vitamin K is what causes your blood to clot. Therefore the warfarin cancels out some of the Vit.
Avatar m tn I don't understand your post, you say: "I recently (3 days ago)..." then you say: "Thirty days seems like a long time for post surgery..." what am I overlooking? Did you mean 30 pre-surgery? I'd say calm down, if you doctor thinks it is safe to take you off of warfarin he'll tell you so, of course it is safe too to ask your doctor, perhaps you're willing to take some additional stroke risk to get off of warfarin.
351404 tn?1299489130 I hate the idea of both a pacemaker and also Warfarin with all those blood tests - it makes my hair fall out and softens fingernails also, but no one has so far suggested ablation which seems to be more favoured in America from what I read.
Avatar n tn I am 62 years old and very active. I weight lift, jog, and ride a bike. Will I have to take warfarin all of my life or at some point can I discontinue it?
Avatar f tn 9 (should be between 2-3) and then when I saw a lady Spanish doctor I told her I had diarrhea she said I could not go back on the Warfarin because its dangerous with diarrhea, I must continue with injections, I objected saying but it is the injection making me have diarrhea. She refused but put me on different injections Hibor. Instructing me to take injections only for 5 days and then injection and Warfarin for 4 days before going to my local clinic.
