I had many problems with heartburn, and Reflux, mainly the result of Radiation to my Esophogus, Over the years I had many problems with swallowing food getting stuck. I have had 20 + Endoscopy's. finally my Doctor sent me to an Allergist, I found out I was Allergic to many many Foods, Ingredients. I f I / you can Avoid many of these foods it will help tremendously with Reflux and Heart Burn. it may not solve all the Problems it'll help alot.
I feel lousy!! It started with bad heartburn, now I have a pain in the top of my stomach, real pain in the center of my chest. and everytime I burp I get s slight burning in my throat. I'm having a hard time swallowing my food, it seems to get caught as it's going down, I can only eat 2 bites or so and I have to drink something to get it down, I have heart palpatations,and spasms on the left side of my stomach.
I have had moderate to severe acid reflux and burning stomach pain for about two years now and have been on a steady regimen of morning Prilosec for about a year and a half. A couple of times, I have tried to stop taking the Prilosec, but both times, the problem quickly worsened, and I had to start again.
I (and a friend) got food poisoning over a week ago and I had a night of fairly violent vomiting (5-6 times). I noticed the next day that my stomach wasn't burning like usual.
Within days, we were eating dinner and he felt like his food was stuck in his throat, and this is when I found out he was out of the Prilosec. I immediately went to the drug store to get him more, and all has been fine since. I've noticed a lot of people on here also take Prilosec. Good luck to you!
I've been having trouble swallowing food for a year and a half, most daily when I eat a couple of times when i swallow food it sticks and I don't have any other symptoms apart from this. I have had camera down throat and barium swallow. The specialist told me its probably swelling i have near the tonsil area and it will go away in years and the doctor told me it was probably muscle spasms. I just wondered if there if anything I could do to help it for example medication.

When my acid reflux is at its worse my food feels like it is "getting stuck". Prilosec or omeprazole is what I take. It took it about 2 months to work, but that feeling went away. My doctor said it was because my esophagus was inflamed and irritated. (Had a scope when it first happened. - I didn't have the need to have my esophagus dilated - You need the scope to rule this out.) It takes prilosec about 2 months to heal my esophagus when it gets that way.
I too have GERD, and I take the same medication as you. I have never had any problem with Prilosec, 20-mg. The OTC Prilosec is 10-mg, and I take two capsules a day if my prescription at the VA is late. I have never noticed my bowel movement smells any worst than it normally does. There is a test you can do to judge whether Prilosec is affecting your bowels. There are about 4 or 5 competitors to Prilosec. Examples are Zantac, Prevacid, 15-mg; Pepcid 20-mg.
You can blame the medication that covered up the issue for a while or you can diagnose the real problem. This is why Prilosec, although a safe drug, should not have been made OTC. People with much more serious conditions self treat on presumptive diagnoses. We are seeing a resurgence of big stomach cancers because people are self treating the symptoms with over the counter meds rather than being properly evaluated.
Hello I'm 16 and just had a right clavicle surgery around 8-10 and was later realesed with oxycodone and have to take 2 every 4 hours. It hasn't been a day since the surgery and I want to be off the oxy and take Advil or tynelol. The oxy had been making me throw up so this is why the instant switch I am thinking of making.
thanks for all your comments,,To the liver comment that was checked earlier in the year ,but ChitChatNine, you said something about hunger pangs with reflux and I never thought of that I just narrowed it down to what made her sick not thinking she could be soothing it with food..I am gonna talk to her doc about tring previcid again ...sorry I have not responded in a while been very bust but thanks for the info.
I am 2 weeks from the end of this med cycle and I got food poisoning from some bad food the other day and after that had passed, the upper chest pain persisted. It is now two days since the food poisoning has worn off and I still have the upper chest pain. It is a dull pain that doesn't seem to spread, but is constant, and only seems to lighten after I have had water or ice tea. When I get overly warm, the pain is worse and makes me nauseous. Any idea what this could be?
My biggest problem with my Gerd from the start is that I feel like my food gets stuck in my throat or down in my chest. When first taking The prilosec it workd after about 2 months and as i said I have been getting by with that or zantac until this past summer. I was eating pizza and suddenly thought I was dying due to the pizza not wanting to go down. Stupidly I tried treating this switching back to prilosec otc myself. It helped for awhile.
