Avatar n tn Is the pulmonary hypertension causing the right ventricle enlargement and the tricuspid regurgitation and would this then be primary pulmonary hypertension. Or, can you explain what is causing her pulmonary hypertension. I have been told my my mother's cardiologist that her tricuspid regurgitation is causing the pulmonary hypertension. But I have talked to other doctors that tell me that the pulmonary hypertension is causing the tricuspid regurgitation.
Avatar n tn Normal average pulmonary artery pressure is about 14 mm Hg at rest. In patients with PPH (primary pulmonary hypertension), the average blood pressure in the pulmonary artery is greater than 25 mm Hg at rest and greater than 30 mm Hg during exercise. Abnormally high pressure (pulmonary hypertension) is linked with changes in the small blood vessels in the lungs. These changes increase resistance to blood flowing through the vessels.

Avatar m tn Last September 2012 I experienced very transient (20-30 seconds) of sharp pain in my throat in the region (just superior to manubrium) where you can palpate your pulse (not carotid artery) while mountain biking. I have always had PVCs for at least the last 10-15 years. At any rate I decided to play it safe and saw a cardiologist. The initial EKG was normal. A week later I had an echo with stress test.
Avatar n tn Her outlook all depends on whether she has primary or secondary PH. The outlook is better for secondary (it just means that the PH was caused by something else like sleep apnea). The doctors that generally handle PH are pulmonary docs and they specialize in PH. I'm sorry to say that I don't know any docs in CT but you could always call the NIH (national institute for health) in Bethsda, MD and they could recommend a doctor that is specialized in PH.
Avatar n tn How accurate is an echocardigram in determining that you have pulmonary hypertension? My doctor says I have it because the pressure in my lungs is twice what it should be. He put me on Bystolic . How successful should that be?
Avatar f tn i put my trust in doctors,as people should, but i was fobbed off, because pulmonary hypertension in children is so rare,it was overlooked..my daughter also suffered with her bowels..hirshbrungs disease..and she suffered..but it wasnt found till her post mortem. i could go on forever about what should of and could of been done,it still haunts me now, nobody was held accountable, and if you knew my story then somebody should of.. but i lost her in 1996,and my life has never been the same since..

Avatar f tn Q: As far as pulmonary hypertension goes it is also known in the medical world as PH and what it means is that the arteries inside of the chest wall basically are having high blood pressure >>>>Sometimes people are confused with system bp and system hp...there is no direct connection. To answer your question pulmonary hypertension refers to high resistence in the Pulmonary Artery a vessel (outside the heart) that goes to the lungs from the heart to oxygenate.
Avatar f tn So I followed up with a Cardiologist and I’m just slightly frustrated with the outcome of the visit. The myocardial perfusion (stress test) was pretty good, only noted fixed anteroseptal and apical defects which the doctor said was most likely due to breast attenuation; I got these results from the cardiologist.
Avatar m tn Diagnosed yesterday with pulmonary hypertension. I had AFib corrected by ablation in 2018. They found ASD. Non sympathetic so nothing done. On eliquis. Annual echos. Last year 65 EF, mild RVSP 34, slightly dilated RV. Yesterday… 55-60 EF, high RVSP 63, enlarged RV. Appointment scheduled with cardiac surgeon concerning closure of asd. Worried about irreversible nature of PH. Is it true it cannot be reversed or healed?
Avatar n tn Can you have pulmonary hypertension if your oxygen saturations are in the 90s to a 100 Percent all the time?

Avatar m tn Hey,I hope someone that reads this can help.I would go to the doctor but lack insurance so I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out. Here's my story: I was a healthy 20 y/o in 2006 and just woke up one morning unable to catch my breath. It progressively got worse over the course of 4 days so I went to the ER and was told that I either had asthma or anxiety and was given an inhaler.I noticed it wasn't working after trying for a week so I made an appointment with my doctor.
Avatar f tn If the right heart failure is due to heart enlargement from the blood flow across the ASD, then yes, that might improve (but it really depends upon how old you are and how badly your heart is functioning). If the right heart failure is due to pulmonary hypertension, then NO, it may not improve, and could actually be a contraindication to ASD closure (depending upon your degree of left to right shunting through the ASD and how abnormal is the pulmonary vascular resistance).
Avatar m tn 7 Because of these and other problems, traditional echocardiographic Doppler assessment of pulmonary artery pressures may be unfeasible or may lead to overestimation or underestimation of pulmonary pressures in up to 40% of individual patients.4,5,7 In short, the traditional echocardiographic approach is not as consistent or as accurate as it needs to be for research studies or clinical decision making.
