Avatar n tn can I use flax seed oil for eye drops for my dog? We have tried antibiotics, tacrolimus, and all over the counter drops but nothing seems to help, someone suggest flax seed oil but will only try this if I know it will not harm her in any way.
2093628 tn?1332979308 I have a 5 yr old rescue long haired chi mix that has neurogenic KCS (dry eye) adopted 10/2011. We've gone thru the university vet school ophthamology treatments (cyclosporin, tacrolimus, and pilocarpine drops) since 10/11 with no response. We are currently treating with gels, drops, and ointments throughout the day and antibiotic ointment as needed. The next step appears to be having his eye removed. Has anyone had this done?
Avatar f tn My dog received tacrolimus for dry eye and I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that is caused his Transitional cell carcinoma/bladder cancer. He was also put on Piroxicam to try to manage the tumor, but he succumbed to the cancer 1 year after being diagnosed. I urge anyone reading this thread to take the risks of tacrolimus seriously and if you have one of those vets that *assures* you of its safety, I would find a different vet.
Avatar f tn Sorry for the eye problem, our Westie has dry eyes that I treat with the same stuff that doesn't work for you. Given the cost of the stuff ($35 for a month supply, very small tube) I'd not use it for years if it didn't give results. We were told twice a day for the life of the dog, the med treats only the symptom, not the cause. I generally use only one a day and twice if I see any mucus formation.
Avatar f tn Hello, First of all was the diagnosis of eczema confirmed for these dry red patches on the nose? This is because eczema often presents with itchy, red, dry and flaky skin. If the rash is non itchy then dry skin or seborrheic dermatitis of the face are important differentials to be ruled out. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face.
Avatar m tn I was a bit put off by the price at first (the optho wanted $2400 for just the one eye, and still a lifetime of tacrolimus for the right). I live in Canada and our vets are for some reason way over priced. I did find one in Michigan that is able to do the surgery for $920. I've gone to see them and they seem competent, doing about 1 of these surgeries per month. Apparently it's quite common. They did give me some interesting info that her regular optho never bothered to share with me.
Avatar n tn i suffer from very dry skin all year but for some odd reason when the season changes my skin starts peeling and only from my chin and the side of my nose... it looks horrible like i dont wash my face. i moisturize but it doesnt help. i have to use makeup but it looks ugly at the end of the day. it is embarrasing. what can i use?
12270954 tn?1424407445 I don’t know if his eye will heal and be normal or if I’ll have to give him eye drops for the rest of his life, much less, which eye drops do I give him?! (tear production drops, artificial tears, Tacrolimus, Genteal, I-Drops, Collidad Silver) I don’t know if the Cyclosporine will help produce tears or if it will give him cancer. I don’t know if he will go blind or they will want to take his eye out! I know one thing for sure, the saliva duct surgery sounds awful! Sorry for going on and on.
1460176 tn?1285884158 OK so I have Keratosis pilaris on my arms and what I have on my noise and in between my eye brows look nothing like it! The skin is red and sometimes itches. every morning I wake up to skin peeling off the spots! what could this be I will post a pic on my profile to show u!
Avatar f tn Salicylic acid-based cleansers or lotions aren't recommended for application around the eye area. You may be experiencing the flaking and skin condition due to the sensitivity to the acid and excessive exfoliation. I'd encourage a less rigorous treatment to the delicate skin and use a vitamin-e based eye cream. Hope you find relief soon!
Avatar m tn My dog has been treated for dry eyes for a year. She has been on many medications. Tacrolimus, cyclsporine, pilocarpine, neopolydex, gentamycin, tobramycin, simplicef, gabapenten, genteal drops, oint. gel, refresh, blink, now she is also taking tramadol for pain. She has been wearing the hood for 6 months to prevent her for scratching her eyes. She just turned 4 and and she is in so much pain, We finally decided to have surgery and have found out it is 2600.00 per eye.

Avatar n tn Hi there, I seem to have a very similar case to dry lips. Have mines for 3-4 yrs now but seems to be getting a bit worst. I've tried EVERYTHING. Have very very dry lips top and bottom, no itching, and at times i get rashes after using various products. Lips get extremely white dry and looks horrible, very embarrassing. Went to various doctors and took treatments for possible fungal infection, and took also hydrocortisone ointment.
574219 tn?1217352418 The very best product I have found for Dry Eye is called I-Drop Vet Opthalmolic Solution (20 Dose Pipettes). My Vet is who orginally gave me samples of these. She does not carry it so I order online. I have only found two places that carry it in the states. The company is out of Canada and have for years made human eye care products. Just recently started making eye products for animals. They also make a wonderful eye wash. Called I-Lid N-Lash Cleansing Gel. Both of these products are a MUST!
Avatar m tn I have very dry and flaky skin on my face, I think it's starting to spread. It started randomly over night. I'm very meticulous about keeping to my face product schedule, and I have very sensitive skin. I use the products I usually use, and have drifted to using different moisturizers, but nothing seems to work. What products would help? Or is this something I should have examined?
Avatar m tn s biopsy and lab numbers clearly show him heading down the road to fibrosis and cirrohsis, would it make sense to push for trying the new drugs at least the approved ones for non-transplant such as teleprevir and bocepavir? Otherwise the patient is looking at another transplant which would seem to be quite a negative option.
Avatar n tn For a couple months now I have had this red rash around my lips. Its not dry skin it sometimes has dead skin and other times it just red and sore. I have been to a doctor 2 or 3 times about it and they keep telling me to stop licking my lips and it will go away. I know for i fact I DO NOT LICK MY LIPS! i have been putting some blistex medicated ointment on them that helps a little with the redness and makes them comfortable to live with.
Avatar m tn i wouldnt lower the tacrolimus dose further
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm 18 and for the past 4 years i've had a really annoying red dry rash around my nostrils. It doesn't itch but it goes very flakey especially when i put make up on. Its really red and noticable and is now starting to get me down. I went to the doctors a few years ago and they gave me some cream for impetigo, which i know it is not as it wasn't itchy! Help please, I don't know what to do now!!
Avatar f tn May be just a chelitis.Vaseline application should do.
Avatar f tn I have never had anything like this until about 4 weeks ago when this area became inflamed and red. It appears dry sometimes, and slighty burns. It also looks like it the little bumps are filled with something, but they aren't acne as far as I know. Any help would be great! Thank you.
1463785 tn?1286595561 Hello, From the symptoms seborrheic dermatitis needs to be ruled out. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas especially under the nose or anywhere on face. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases.
Avatar m tn I don't know if this will help you, but it helped my husband with the same problem. Maybe try a gluten free diet (gluten is in wheat, barley, rye and oats). You can look the diet up on the computer. It's not everyone's cure, but maybe it will help you. You have to stick with the diet 100% to see if it gives you relief. Give it a try for 3 months and see if things get better. You will need a gluten free vitamin (Nature Made brand). Good luck!
Avatar n tn I'm 22 and had a sore rash down the sides of my nose for a few years now. Some days it's not as bad as others, and it seems to be worse after I have got out of the shower. My doctors have given me a couple of things which didnt work. They gave me some hydrocortizone 1% which worked and cleared it up but I stopped using it because I was advised to use it for only a week, so the soreness came back. Can anyone help?
