Avatar n tn can I use flax seed oil for eye drops for my dog? We have tried antibiotics, tacrolimus, and all over the counter drops but nothing seems to help, someone suggest flax seed oil but will only try this if I know it will not harm her in any way.
2093628 tn?1332979308 I have a 5 yr old rescue long haired chi mix that has neurogenic KCS (dry eye) adopted 10/2011. We've gone thru the university vet school ophthamology treatments (cyclosporin, tacrolimus, and pilocarpine drops) since 10/11 with no response. We are currently treating with gels, drops, and ointments throughout the day and antibiotic ointment as needed. The next step appears to be having his eye removed. Has anyone had this done?
Avatar f tn Sorry for the eye problem, our Westie has dry eyes that I treat with the same stuff that doesn't work for you. Given the cost of the stuff ($35 for a month supply, very small tube) I'd not use it for years if it didn't give results. We were told twice a day for the life of the dog, the med treats only the symptom, not the cause. I generally use only one a day and twice if I see any mucus formation.
Avatar f tn This is because eczema often presents with itchy, red, dry and flaky skin. If the rash is non itchy then dry skin or seborrheic dermatitis of the face are important differentials to be ruled out. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches.
Avatar m tn We have tried a couple of different forums but not much response. We also are trying to find out all the pros & cons before we have surgery done. Right now we are using Cyclosporine & Tacrolimus drops 3 times a day plus Genteal severe dry eye gel every hour (6AM –10PM) to keep his eyes comfortable. Luckily there is someone home all day. Our opto said he would check saliva just before the operation.

12270954 tn?1424407445 My vet referred me to a vet ophthalmologist who said Bentley had dry eye, a corneal ulcer, and obviously, no tears. He prescribed Ofloxacin-antibiotic, Erythromycin-antibiotic, and Optixcare-eye lubricant, to be administered every 2 hours and recheck in 2 days. I diligently gave him the meds every 2 hours for 2 days and the doctor said the ulcer was nearly gone and his eye was 75% better. I was so happy and his eye looked so much better.
Avatar f tn I consistently have a thick, crusty skin that forms over the area that I pluck. It is not dry skin thus, lotion does not alleviate the problem. I'm wondering what this could be and how to treat the issue? I notice flakes in my eyebrows as well. Very odd, I realize, and I exfoliating the area w/ salicylic acid and a wash cloth helps only minimally. The skin always comes back every day as described above. Thank you for any help you can offer!!
Avatar f tn My dog received tacrolimus for dry eye and I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that is caused his Transitional cell carcinoma/bladder cancer. He was also put on Piroxicam to try to manage the tumor, but he succumbed to the cancer 1 year after being diagnosed. I urge anyone reading this thread to take the risks of tacrolimus seriously and if you have one of those vets that *assures* you of its safety, I would find a different vet.

Avatar n tn Recently I stopped using moisturizers because my skin seemed too oily and voila my skin looks very good (my blepharitis also cleared up as soon as I stopped using treatments). However my extremely flaky/seemingly dry lips remain. Am I right in thinking that the lips are caused by having taken 40 mg a day of accutane for 5 mths up until April of 09, or could they be a result of my seborrheic dermatitis?
574219 tn?1217352418 But one day when I took a tissue to remove it from the corner she winced and I realized her eye was sore. Took her to the Vet and they diagnosed her with Dry Eye. She is perfect, nice teeth, skin no allergies. Her bloodwork showed nothing unusual. Doxy seems to have done NOTHING. The only thing I changed was from Advantage to Comfortis? And neither Vet seems to think that could be the cause. Now on the body odor, lately she has been having a "not so fresh" smell.
Avatar m tn I have very dry and flaky skin on my face, I think it's starting to spread. It started randomly over night. I'm very meticulous about keeping to my face product schedule, and I have very sensitive skin. I use the products I usually use, and have drifted to using different moisturizers, but nothing seems to work. What products would help? Or is this something I should have examined?
Avatar m tn i wouldnt lower the tacrolimus dose further
Avatar n tn For a couple months now I have had this red rash around my lips. Its not dry skin it sometimes has dead skin and other times it just red and sore. I have been to a doctor 2 or 3 times about it and they keep telling me to stop licking my lips and it will go away. I know for i fact I DO NOT LICK MY LIPS! i have been putting some blistex medicated ointment on them that helps a little with the redness and makes them comfortable to live with.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm 18 and for the past 4 years i've had a really annoying red dry rash around my nostrils. It doesn't itch but it goes very flakey especially when i put make up on. Its really red and noticable and is now starting to get me down. I went to the doctors a few years ago and they gave me some cream for impetigo, which i know it is not as it wasn't itchy! Help please, I don't know what to do now!!
Avatar f tn May be just a chelitis.Vaseline application should do.
Avatar m tn Hello....My dog had dry eye....the vet was originally spinning a serum from a donor dogs blood....It seemed to work great...! Two Bits eyes were clear and full of sparkle....Then the owner of the donor dog, decided not to have the blood drawn from his dog anymore....We couldn't use Two Bits blood, It was a long time ago, and I don't really remember why, but I think it was just because she would not cooperate with the blood draws....eventually she ended up with cyclosporine...
Avatar f tn I have never had anything like this until about 4 weeks ago when this area became inflamed and red. It appears dry sometimes, and slighty burns. It also looks like it the little bumps are filled with something, but they aren't acne as far as I know. Any help would be great! Thank you.
1463785 tn?1286595561 Hello, From the symptoms seborrheic dermatitis needs to be ruled out. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Avatar f tn In December I woke up with very dry skin all over my forehead and i thought it was just usual dry skin.. but then the skin became very tight and plasticy and very very shiny even straight after i got out the shower. I went to the doctor who gave me fucidin and it didn't work and again was given daktarin, daktacort and nizoral. I then had a mild skin peel which reduced the overall plasticness but i still have lines on my forehead and it is still very shiny skin and scaly all over.
Avatar n tn is it any fungal infection ? i scratched it sometimes before dry white flakes fall but the patch is spreading slowly i think plz help soon ....!!
Avatar m tn I was told by my dermo that I had Seborrheic dermatitis. It was dry itchy and scaly under my beard, in the nose folds, ears and eyebrows. I was given desonate gel to use for 2 weeks and things calmed down. However now I just have a redness itchy forehead. I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?
