Have you found out if the cancer was caused by Tacrolimus or Cyclosporine? My dog is being prescribed these meds for dry eye too and I am curious and anxious about what I've read on this page. Please let meknow, thank you and hope your doggie is doing ok.
can I use flax seed oil for eye drops for my dog? We have tried antibiotics, tacrolimus, and all over the counter drops but nothing seems to help, someone suggest flax seed oil but will only try this if I know it will not harm her in any way.
Sorry for the eye problem, our Westie has dry eyes that I treat with the same stuff that doesn't work for you. Given the cost of the stuff ($35 for a month supply, very small tube) I'd not use it for years if it didn't give results. We were told twice a day for the life of the dog, the med treats only the symptom, not the cause. I generally use only one a day and twice if I see any mucus formation.
I have spent over $3000 in six months with no relief of the Dry Eye in my Rat Terrier. I have seen two regular Vets and one Opthalmology Vet. The treatments is always the same, Fluroescien Stain, Shcirmer Test, then meds, so far - Cyclosporine 2 percent, NeoPolyDex, I-Drop/Genteal gel with or without Triemethoprim Solution and or Doxycycline Tablets and Chloramphenicol Drops, etc. etc. My poor dog is no better than she was six months ago and I am BROKE.
I have a 6 month old female lab who about 2 months ago started with dry eye left side. She also has excess drool coming from her left side of her mouth same time dry eye started. Thought maybe drool was from teething but it's not. Have seen 2 different Ophthalmologists, have had the fluorescein stain test, schirmer several times (left eye zero, now 5, right eye dropping from 17 to 8, no clue why), on meds (neopolybac, tacrolimus, cyclosporine, artificial tear ointment, genteal, pilocarpine).

I have a patch of dry skin on my right eyelid that will not go away. I started putting eye cream on it and it will disappear for a short period but it comes right back. What could cause this? I have tried not putting anything on it thinking it maybe an allergic reaction but it doesn't go away it just gets more irritated.
We tried to just wait and use petroleum jelly based on the recommendation of the dermatologist and the situation worsened, family physicians recommended the Sintomicen in the eye and near the eye and it does not really help. What do we do???

At the time I did not have the dry skin, but recently this started to happen. I will have my yearly eye exam and ask the doctor more.
Over the last week or two I have noticed a dry patch of skin on the head of my penis. It is only slightly red. It occasionally gets dry and has a surface that can be flaked away. I have similar spots, ones that do not flake, on the shaft of my penis. They don't itch, burn, or feel otherwise uncomfortable. They do get more prominent after masturbation and intercourse. I have been in a monogamous relationship for the past three years, and only had one sexual encounter a year before that.
I have scaly patches on my cheeks below each eye. Not bags under my eyes but a patch of scaly skin about the size of a quater. Any suggestions of what could be causing them? I've also suddenly developed several dark brown spots on my face. Some are raised with a tough texture and others are just spots. What are these caused from? Thank you!
I have a 5 yr old rescue long haired chi mix that has neurogenic KCS (dry eye) adopted 10/2011. We've gone thru the university vet school ophthamology treatments (cyclosporin, tacrolimus, and pilocarpine drops) since 10/11 with no response. We are currently treating with gels, drops, and ointments throughout the day and antibiotic ointment as needed. The next step appears to be having his eye removed. Has anyone had this done?
My 9 year old maltese was diagnosed in February with Severe Dry Eye (KCS). He has been on Tacrolimus, Cyclosporin, Genteal, Pilocarpine, Interferon, Optixcare, KCS solution, Flurbiprofen, etc.. None of them have worked, his right eye is still at 0. He developed a corneal ulcer 2 weeks ago. His ophthalmologist has suggested the PTD surgery which he is scheduled to have it on August 2. If anyone has any suggestions on whether or not to have the surgery I would greatly appreciate it.
For the past week there has been a patch of red, dry skin under my eye, on my upper cheek, and I have no clue what it is. It burns and tingles a little whenever I apply any lotion to it. The lotion isn't helping though. If this persists I will be going to the doctor next week to see what is wrong, but I was hoping someone here could offer some help beforehand. What is wrong with my face?! I have had acne in my past, but it is has gotten a lot better over the years.
The last couple of months I have noticed a small flaky, slightly raised spot on my face. It is about 2 inches below my left eye. I have tried to pick it off and it bleeds very slightly, scabs, and turns red and black. I am scared this may be a type of skin cancer. Could this just be eczema?

This is because eczema often presents with itchy, red, dry and flaky skin. If the rash is non itchy then dry skin or seborrheic dermatitis of the face are important differentials to be ruled out. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches.
I have red round my eyes - the skin is all scaly and dry - it looks like eczema - i have elimnated foods and ive not been drinking alcohol. Could it be that i used nivea eye cream years ago that set this off or it just coincdence - surely a reaction to a cream would not last this long. The area around eyes is painful and its almost inflamed and scaly and red.
Up to three years ago this same skin problem happened around my mouth. Then my eye lids and forhead. Everything is usually fine except for the skin around my mouth. It becomes inflamed, extremely dry, if not treated it will begin to crack and peel. After the skin is done peeling, there's a new layer of skin, but then again it'll just dry up and start the process all over again. My point being it will not heal.
I consistently have a thick, crusty skin that forms over the area that I pluck. It is not dry skin thus, lotion does not alleviate the problem. I'm wondering what this could be and how to treat the issue? I notice flakes in my eyebrows as well. Very odd, I realize, and I exfoliating the area w/ salicylic acid and a wash cloth helps only minimally. The skin always comes back every day as described above. Thank you for any help you can offer!!
ive had this problem for about 3 years its started on my cheecks right beside my nose on both sides now its on my eye brows and on my ears front and back and a little on my nose its red slightly raised and it flakes it burns a little ive been to my regular docter and a dermatoligist but it keeps happening my dermatoloigist gave me protopic when it first happen but now i use cutivate, when i uses either it takes less than a 2-3 days for the peeling and redness to stop and then it leaves my skin wh
Thank you for your response! I am glad to hear your Brandy has done well after surgery, but sorry to hear she has developed a crystal in the duct. My primary concern is my dog’s comfort / quality of life. What I would really like to know is - what the daily routine has been following surgery. Have the number of medications / drops become less, and also what is the frequency of administering drops throughout the day. And any changes in behavior.
Hello....My dog had dry eye....the vet was originally spinning a serum from a donor dogs blood....It seemed to work great...! Two Bits eyes were clear and full of sparkle....Then the owner of the donor dog, decided not to have the blood drawn from his dog anymore....We couldn't use Two Bits blood, It was a long time ago, and I don't really remember why, but I think it was just because she would not cooperate with the blood draws....eventually she ended up with cyclosporine...
I mean I still get a few breakout but it was clearing my blemishes and my skin felt better. After about a month my neck and my eye lids started to itch. I am not sure why this happened but I thought it was like a rash or infection so I put anitbiotic on it and then it felt better. So I told my sis and she said it my be eczema and I have never had eczema before so I looked it up and tried to find about it. So now I think it is eczema. I just don't understand why it came out of nowhere.
Please forgive the spelling mistakes that follow Oct 2001 Diagnosed with Palmo Platar Pustular Posriasis Nov 2002 Diagnosed With Seb Derm April 2003 Red patch appeared, oval shape 5-10mm corner of eye / bridge of nose (not visible face on) ~ for advice on this I'm Writing Background With the onset of PPPP I had a bout of serious Seb Derm that went off its own accord within a couple of months.
since then, his corneas have been very dry and he takes three eye meds a day - tacrolimus for tear production, flurbiprofen (anti-inflammatory), and Ocusol A. Recently, I noticed that when he swallows(not while eating but during the normal course of things like we humans do), there is sometimes a dry "clicking" sound and that once in a while an indrawn breath will sound like a sob (for lack of a better description) but he has not been in any apparent distress.
There is a little crack in the skin, which is difficult to clear up. The skin doctor prescribed Protopic tacrolimus ointment, 0.03%. This helps, but as soon as I stop using it the problem returns. My ears also get the skin fissures and they are flakey. My mother had the same problem with her eyelids, so I guess it is an inherited thing. Lately, to help heal the fissure on my eyelids I've put a drop of liquid bandage on them using a cotton tip.
Hello, Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. People with seborrheic dermatitis produce too much sebum (the natural skin oil). Later, pityrosporum yeast grows excessively in the sebum, sometime along with bacteria, making the dermatitis more persistent.
Have had same problems as all of you. Red, itchy patches on eyelids and below one eye. Lips that are red, dry and itchy with vertical lines that make me look like I have smoked all my life. I first developed symptoms after taking a second course of antibiotics for a sinus infection. I developed all the above symptoms but also had swelling so the doctor thought I was having a reaction. I discontinued the antibiotic and have had this same problem for about seven months.
