Synthroid with orange juice

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid with orange juice

synthroid

I was put on 150 mcg of Synthroid for over a year and recently received a call from my doctor saying my levels were low and prescribed me 125 mcg of Synthroid. I don't understand why he did that. Isn't 150 mcg a higher dosage than 125 mcg?
this is such a relief to find this page and discover that there are a lot of others dealing with this Orange Tongue condition.. I also have had this orange Tongue for the past few months. I think it started around the time I had tonsillitis and I had to take a lot of antibiotics to get rid of it.. Then I had what seemed to be an ear infection.. but the doctor said it wasn't anything bacterial.. I drink a lot of Orange colored teas and coffees and I thought it was the cause..
I agree with gimel that acid reflux is often associated with being hypo. In desperation, I've even chugged dill pickle juice - sometimes it helped, sometimes not, but getting out of that hypo state is most important. If you'll post your most recent thyroid test results, along with reference ranges, we could help assess your situation.
Food wise, we really eat healthy. Morning we have oatmeal with raisin and cinnamon with milk we do not add sugar or honey. We share a apple and a bannana and we have a tad of cottage cheese on a half tomatoe. Lunch we usually have a sandwich mostly peanut butter n jelly sometimes tuna etc. At night we mostly have a nice fresh salad and our meat dish. Meat us usually baked in the oven on racks or bar-b-que.
I was dx with hypothyroidism Jan 08 after dealing with extreme fatigue, was put on 88mcg Synthroid after working with an endo and then sent to a rheumatologist who dx with fibromyalgia. Was put on Meloxicam, Soma and Elavil to help with "fibro symptoms." Starting feeling much better for about 6+ months until "crashing" with severe fatigue plus a new symptom - lacation- Dec 08. Gynocologist sent me to have MRI to look at pituitary even though prolactin levels were normal.
even meaning I will forever be on synthroid. I often times feel very alone in dealing with all the symptoms and having to pretend like I feel normal like everyone else...so it's nice to hear there are others dealing with the same frustrations. My endocrinologist tells me there is no correlation between RAI treatment for hyperthyroidism and cancer, and she also tells me I will certainly be able to one-day have kids (as long as it is 6 months after the RAI treatment).
I noticed minute Maid orange juice had calcium in it...so I wait untill after noon to get my juice and milk products. also i don't touch soy milk anymore..interfers with thyroid med. I had my RAI 7/07 TT w/ pap cancer. I read all the time on what foods will help me feel healther..and finally am feeling like I can start an excerise program..maybe join a group. Good luck to you and God bless.
I am learning so many things about myself that I am beginning to realize, I don't even know who I am, on a deep level. I have changed from armour to synthroid after the T3 issues with armour, and now the synthroid is having its own issues. The acid reflux is worse than awful, and my throat burns all the time. I have gained about 10 lbs. So now the question is which is worse the synthroid or the armour and also which is better the synthroid or the armour.
On Synthroid. Even before treatment I never had constipation with hypo. But since increase in dosage has gotten very bad. Anyone else had this as a side effect of Synthroid?
some B6, B12, Vitex, Fertilaid, etc... - Lots of PreSeed - Cough Syrup (a couple of bottles) - Orange Juice (for DH) - Grape Juice (for me) - 3 doctors, 1 Nurse practioner - HSG - synthroid, metformin - multiple U/S each cycle along with bw - 2 clomid cycles - LAP Surgery - 1 femara, trigger, iui cycle - 1 BFP... and sadly, 1 loss and so much more... it's now a year. What do I have to show for it? I never thought this would happen to me (not getting pregnant right away).
It seemed like months, I guess. 12 weeks monotherapy with a relapse; 48 weeks with a different doctor combination tx with, hopefully, success. I will get the ANA test. What is AIH? Is it just post tx autoimmune problems? If so, I wonder what percentage of ifn patients have this.
A lot of people get consitpated with iron supplements - but iron is always absorbed better with Vitamin C, which can also help reduce constipation. A glass of orange juice with your tablet is okay but a Vitamin C tablet/chewable will be much more effective. Wishing you wellness!
I learned some time back, I think it was the Fox News Doctor, Rosenberg (or a name near that) who said orange juice can reduce the effectiveness of a BB. I had previously always taken my morning dose of BB with my class of OJ. The problem was not limited to OJ. I no longer drink a fruit juice in the morning. I may have some later in the day.
Regular eating is a must to have regular bowel movements - Take enough fluid along with the food. Plain water, tea, orange (lemon, grapefruit) or banana juice should be OK. Avoid alcohol, carbonated drinks, especially those sweetened with HFCS or sorbitol. - Be physically active, have a walk evry now and then To prevent bloating, try this: - Do not eat any fruits for 2-3 days, especially avoid plums, prunes, peaches, grapes, cherries and any dried fruits. Avoid foods with sorbitol or HFCS.
I was thinking of having 1 cup of calcium-fortified orange juice per day as well, which would get me right around 50%. Any other suggestions? I'm not really big on fruit juice, but of course I do need calcium so I'd be willing to take it. Plus, I'd like to keep things as natural/organic as possible, in addition to watching my calorie intake as I've heard it's much more difficult to lose weight with hypothyroidism.
For instance oranges are acidic but grapefruits are not. I can't drink orange juice, but when your body digests grapefruit it cuts down on acid. Give up on doctors their only goal in life is to suck the money out of your wallet.
I usually drink grapefruit juice for my UTI. Something really high in Vitamin C, orange juice or apple juice are, too.
I am a man of 47 years/old, overweight but working out when I can and eating reasonably well. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroism and take medications for that (Synthroid). I also have chronic pain and some fibromyalgia and take Hydrocodone. Finally I have chronic sleep problems and take Ambient CR. The problem I cannot find the cause is as follow.
I have been unsuccessful in finding a good endo (even though 2 of the endos I visited in the Houston area were diplomates as well---one endo actually advised me to crush my Synthroid and mix w/ orange juice when I inquired about my difficulty in swallowing solids. I didn't have a problem swallowing the pills. She advised me to ask my GP about that, as though it was not thyroid-related. Clearly, the dysphagia was due to enlarged thyroid/goiter).
I have yellow/orange patches on and above my eylids. I have been diagnosed with high cholesterol. You should visit your doctor for a fasting cholesterol test to determine your LHD and HDL levels.
I know these are organic stuff, but I wish to keep away as much as processed stuff and switch as much to natural-I mean natural foods instead of pill.. like maybe- home made orange juice with one lime/lemon squeezed in it. And the smoothie as you do for your daughter and mybe I may like whey. I have to motivate myself..one step at a time or I will crash..my husband is already afraid I am going mad with so many changes at home.
It's going to take a long time for my thyroid to get better as I'm on such a small dose of Synthroid, so I just have to find something to help my Gerd. I just can't go on with it like this until my thyroid is better. If my Gerd were controlled, I would at least feel a little better, although it wouldn't help my fatigue or my other thyroid symptoms. Thanks again for your help.
Doctors have found that taking calcium supplements or calcium-fortified orange juice, vitamins with iron, and antacids may interfere with thyroid drug absorption. Take these supplements at least 3 hours apart from thyroid hormone. Consider taking your calorie requirements for the day and breaking them into smaller, 250-calorie mini-meals. Frequent smaller meals can help balance blood sugar, prevent fat storage, and help you feel less hungry in general.
My 11 year old son uses it as well. We mix it in his morning orange juice and it completely dissolves. I only give him 1/2 dose, though, or we have other problems! It works quickly, too.
I started taking Ferrous Sulfate (iron) and the chemo nurses told me to take it with Orange Juice for better absorption. My Onc is aware of all of this. You need to be careful of some supplements .. like I stopped taking Vitamin E. A chemo nurse once told me not to eat licorice (so I don't). Also, was told to stay away from green tea. There are varying opinions on green tea .. but basically, was told to stay away from antioxidants. I error on the side of caution and have did pretty well.
If you eat meat, or other foods high in iron, or iron supplements, try drinking orange juice, or taking vitamin C supplements to increase absorption of the element.
Be careful about taking calcium and calcium-fortified orange juice at the same time as thyroid hormone. Allow at least 2-3 hours apart, so absorption is not affected. Don't take antacids within two hours of thyroid hormone. Allow at least 2-3 hours apart, so absorption is not affected. Watch for interactions with antidepressants & thyroid hormone. Zoloft, Paxil and Prozac can make thyroid meds more or less effective. Talk to your doctor. I hope this helps you out.
before breakfast, esp. avoiding CA and multivitamins…… which would mean no cereal w milk or enriched orange juice….but I can do that. Maybe some fruit or fruit juice that has no CA? I would need to wait 2? hours after lunch and 2 or 3 hours before dinner, the source said, to take the afternoon dose as it is to be taken on an empty stomach. Also, I'm to cook the goiter…. type veggies like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale….and restrict greens bc they interfere w absorption…..
The potassium helps a lot. You can also get a nice dose in orange juice. If you need instructions on how to get potassium and need my assistance ill be glad to help.
Just for the heck of it I drank 6 oz of orange juice when the attack happened today. (they are at the same time every day) The attack stopped within 5 minutes. Prior to the attack I was sick to my stomach , was unable to think or remember things, slurred speech and I had not eaten. Is it possible that (I am having a hypoglycemic reaction because of being hypo-T? I used my husbands glucose meter and my fasting level was 145 and my non-fasting was 139 (4) hrs after eating a big meal.
