Synthroid with alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid with alcohol

synthroid

Avatar f tn Does Synthroid affect the processing of alcohol? Since going on it (50mcg), I have noticed I experience a sort of hangover even with low alcohol intake (i.e. less than 2 beers). It is not, however, like a normal hangover, but almost like I have ingested too much salt. I will have a headache, but it is not the classic spinning, throbbing, nauseous feeling. Any ideas?
Avatar m tn I have found that I was not able to drink certain alcohol with the synthroid medications, I myself had a few incidents where I couldnt remember after about 3 glasses of wine or martinis, and I too would feel really sick the following day -not hung over. I have done some Experimenting with different alcohols to see what my body and mind can handle with this disease. I have found a couple of dark beers suit me fine, but champagne seems to be the drink of choice with no crazy side effects.
Avatar m tn Anyone else experience this? I recently received a call from my primary care provider saying that my AST and ALT were about double the normal limits. I've done some internet sleuthing and found that synthroid and hypothyroidism can cause them to be elevated, but I'd just like to hear some firsthand experiences. I'm on 75mcg daily.
Avatar f tn Are there certain foods that I should avoid to prevent weight gain? Should I cut my alcohol and coffee consumption? I feel bloated especially at the end of the day. I've been on Synthroid 25mg for a week now and I feel my face is puffy and round. I also have an increased appetite! I'm 55 years old and in menopause and I really don't want to gain weight. I'm relatively physically active. Walks every day.
Avatar f tn Why do you take Synthroid? Hashimoto's? You should know if this is the cause because Hashi is NOT just a thyroid issue but an auto-immune issue. Untreated hypothyroidism can cause the kidney and liver to become sluggish, and is far worse than not taking the pills.
Avatar m tn This has still not answered my question.. I had to take radioactive iodine to destroy my thyroid.. I take 1.25 mcg daily, can I take kelp also with the synthroid??? In the 80's I went on a kelp,lecithin.b6 vinegar diet and lost a lot of weight.. but I need to know if I can take kelp safely with synthroid??
Avatar n tn I have been doing a lot of research as I am now part of the Synthroid Club. I am 47 and was diagnosed a year ago. My last visit with my PCP was quite depressing; she told me to exercise more, change my diet, and lose weight (my total cholesterol was 203, my triglycerides when from 68 to 128, and had I gained 2 pounds). I mentioned to her that I was feeling down, kind of depressed, unmotivated, lacking energy, and feeling tired, but she just did not put 2 and 2 together.
Avatar f tn My doctor has prescribed 75 mcg of Synthroid, but I am worried about getting stuck with a life long prescription if a lifestyle change might do the trick. Would cutting alcohol or another dietary change completely help with fixing the TSH level? I am a non-smoker and get regular exercise. I do have a high triglyceride count (292) and low HDL count (32). The question is: should I take the prescription or is there hope that a dietary/lifestyle change might work?
Avatar n tn I am hypo and take synthroid and cytomel. The synthroid was adjusted just recently. I think you may have hit on something when you said to take the cytomel in the afternoon. Gee why didnt I think of that. DUH. Thanks!
Avatar f tn t have the old numbers). Treated with Synthroid (for 3 years), I felt as if I would swing from hypo to hyper symptoms with no specific pattern - in other words I did not fit the classic symptoms for hypo that I would read about: I had insomnia, always hot, unexplained anxiety, unexplained weight gain, extreme morning tiredness and cognitive fog -- all with hypo lab results. I am post menopausal - these are not hot flashes. I always feel hot with heat intolerance (like my regulator is broken!).
458072 tn?1291415186 I am living testimony that I feel better on than off Synthroid!!!! My normal TSH with no meds was 2.8 with symptoms and told "normal" for yrs then I ended up on it after surgery for nodules and guess what 3/4's of the symtpoms are Gone with my new TSH at 1.8 which is comfy cozy perfect for me!!!
Avatar n tn My brother has been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism and is taking Synthroid .01MG. Most of his initial symptoms (weight-loss, excessive perspiration, extreme tiredness, bulging eyes, etc.) have been alleviated as a result of this medication. However, we have discovered several 'new' symptoms and are not certain if they are side effects of the medication or are additional symptoms of Hyperthyroidism.
299155 tn?1235489269 hi. thanks for your information. yes, problems with synthroid. Stella, thanks, I viewed your journal. I am holding off taking it and calling my Dr today.
745975 tn?1258960922 Yes I have hashi's and don't believe that I am through the roller coster of it all. I was on synthroid for awhile but didn't do well with it so was just switched to Levoxyl but haven't started it yet. My headaches are constant and some days are worse than others. Today is NOT a good day! My dizziness and off balance are daily too!
Avatar f tn 8) Endo wants TSH suppression for thyroid cancer. On Synthroid 112 mcg daily and 6.25 mcg of cytomel twice daily.
Avatar f tn s very good to hear she is so careful with medications and her diet but alcohol abuse is more than enough on its own to cause liver disease. Does she have any concerns about the results of her lab testing and ultra sound? Unfortunately when it comes to our friends and loved ones that are abusing alcohol the best we can do is to express our concerns, but it is up to them to want to quit. Most people will hit "rock bottom" before they do but that is different for everybody.
Avatar f tn I started on synthroid 150mcg daily and cytomel 5mg twice daily, then 112 mcg of synthroid and same cytomel, now 125mcg synthroid with same cytomel. My anxiety has been terrible, esp. since switching to synthroid. I have never felt well since Thyroidectomy but hoping and praying I can feel better than this. My Endo thinks my numbers are fine. I have an appt. with a new Endo in January who was recommended by a Naturopath because he treats by symptoms and doesnt just go by TSH.

Avatar f tn Along with Synthroid, you should also consider whether you are still hypo or not, since this can also contribute to hair loss. If you have lab test results, please post the actual numbers and reference ranges, so that members can respond.

Avatar f tn I just got my lab results back and need some help with what you think needs to happen with meds. I am thinking maybe lower the Synthroid and up the Cytomel. Currently I take .1MG of Synthroid and 5MCG of Cytomel split in have with 2.5 MCG in AM and 2.5 MCG in PM.
