Synthroid weight gain loss

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid weight gain loss

synthroid

Avatar f tn Does everyone gain weight with Hashimotos and hypothyroid. It is so depressing. I am thinking on going on WW or Nutrisystem, but will I lose weight if my thyroid is still screwed up? I have low motility too when it comes to digestion too. Took the sitz test and an average person can poop out the beads in 2 days and it took 7 for me. What have other done? I am frustrated!
Avatar f tn When TSH levels are too high, it means that you are hypo. Although some people gain weight whether hypo or hyper, weight gain is traditionally associated with hypo. Increasing Synthroid should allow you to better maintain your weight. Please check your dosage...are you taking 100 mcg and being increased to 120? Your doctor should be adjusting your meds based on free T3 and free T4 as well as TSH. Does he test FT3 and FT4 as well?
Avatar f tn d never recommend phentermine, even though it does work for weight loss. The problem is that when people stop taking it, they almost always gain back everything they lost, plus some.
Avatar n tn What could be the cause of weight gain since starting on synthroid. I have gained approx 20 lbs since I was put on Synthroid that has been about 5 month now. I exercise and eat a low fat diet. but the weight keeps coming. Is there a link between weight gain and taking Thyroid meds.
927140 tn?1244210051 I think all of you should understand the difference between weight gain or loss from thyroid meds and the difference in how phentermine works before giving any information...most thyroid meds DO NOT HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS...IF IT DID..THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR THE LATTER....THYROID MEDS ARE NOT FOR WEIGHT LOSS....AND IF YOU THINK IT IS...DO YOUR RESEARCH WITH A QUALIFIED DOCTOR!!! NOT JUST A PILL PUSHER....IT WONT HAPPEN!!!!
460348 tn?1213452322 Thanks Cheryl!! I just keep praying things will get better. Just can't understand the weight gain since my synthroid has been bumped up to 137mcg. Tired of being tired and tired of getting fat!!!!!!
Avatar f tn my dr had said this type of thyroid problem should cause weight loss, not gain....not seeing this at all...actually, total opposite....last night i joined the gym which i will start tonight....wondering if anyone found that taking this medication along with workouts at the gym have helped with the weight gain?
Avatar f tn Are there certain foods that I should avoid to prevent weight gain? Should I cut my alcohol and coffee consumption? I feel bloated especially at the end of the day. I've been on Synthroid 25mg for a week now and I feel my face is puffy and round. I also have an increased appetite! I'm 55 years old and in menopause and I really don't want to gain weight. I'm relatively physically active. Walks every day.
Avatar m tn When I stopped smoking last time I was concerned about the weight gain and now Im concerned about the weight loss. Putting all the pieces together, the pattern does sound logical. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn I decreased my daily caloric intake from 1600 to 1200 a day because I was not seeing any weight reduction, loss in body fat, or change in body measurments. I have been doing this for three weeks now, and still no weight loss. I don't mind working, but would like to know I will eventually get somewhere. Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I was Diagnosed and Treated with radioactive Iodine for Graves Disease in the Fall of last year. Since then I have been battling hair loss, weight gain, muscle cramps and extreme tiredness. I recently in May went on the synthroid but haven't had much change except for the muscle cramps have reduced. My question is though, how does taking synthroid effect your periods.
Avatar f tn Now am at 100mcg one year later and symptoms are mostly okay except still hard to lose weight (even though am working out and dieting), brain fog/loss of train of thought...but the worst thing is the hair breakage. It seems to have gotten worse with Synthroid. I have lost 8-10 inches of hair. :( My antibodies are 930 T4 - 187 Iron - I think she said in the 90's but because I have Hashimotos, my doctor said it should be higher I feel good at my current Synthroid dosage.
Avatar n tn 2/ Is it common to GAIN weight while taking Synthroid? If so, how hard to go back to normal weight and after how long? 3/ Is it more difficult to get pregnant while on Synthroid? 4/ Is it a given that once someone start taking Synthroid (or any other thyroid med for hypo), it's for life? 5/ should i have my baby tested for thyroid problems? Would love to read your experiences and feedback. thanks! hyponofun :( This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn Have your adrenals tested. Weight gain is a symptom of adrenal fatigue as well as other symptoms that are the same as hypothyroidism. Ask to have your DHEA and cortisol levels tested.
906129 tn?1242398630 50mcg in the fall and started gaining weight especially in the stomach region, with the research I have been compiling I have come to the conclusion that if you have a t3 problem that is if your t4 is normal but it has a problem converting to t3 and your hypo you will gain weight also it raises your cortisol levels so that is why the stomach weight gain.
Avatar n tn I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?
Avatar n tn synthroid will not cause hot flashes hair loss or weight gain. the synthroid will keep these from happeneing. you need to be on synthroid or maybe perhaps armour. I am doing qui te well on the synthroid.
9595194 tn?1404749116 Just watch your symptoms and be sure to tell your endo if you start having symptoms of hypothyroidism, due to the Methimazole. Symptoms of hypothyroidism are sudden weight gain, constipation, cold intolerance, hair loss, fatigue, depression, muscle/joint aches/pains, swelling of the face/hands/feet, etc.
Avatar n tn If I eat bread, rice or oats I gain weight and feel real sluggish. I have lost 20 pounds but it took me almost 6 mo. I know how frustrating it is. One interesting this is that I was taking to much thyroid med so it made me gain weight, lose my hair and have mood swings with depression. I am slowly doing better with less med. Maybe see someone at a health food store. They have great knowledge when it comes to our complex bodies.
