Synthroid vs armour conversion

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid vs armour conversion

synthroid

Avatar f tn I switched from synthroid 137 mcg to armour 60 mg in July- Saturday I ended up in the emergecy room because they thought I was having a stroke- II am 56 yrs old on thyroid for 30 years. My diagnosis was Bells Pasly with a extremely low thyroid- dr said your thyroid crashed.
Avatar n tn If one would switch from Synthroid to Armour thyroid, What is the amount of armour to the amount of synthroid one is taking. Is there a formula to use to get the dosage.
1019013 tn?1252002096 Save yourself possible hypo. grief : I recommend Nature-thyroid NOT Armour if you choose to use a desicated "natural" hormone. New Armour formula failed us recently. Switched 1 month ago to Naturthroid. Doing much better symptomatically. Waiting for lab results 9/20. Was on Synthroid (t4 only) for many years. Not converting enough to t3 (ACTIVE HORMONE). Always check your free t3 levels! If too low, but t4 is high normal, then t3 will be needed along with the t4.
499534 tn?1328704178 My new doc left message that she is switching me from synthroid to armour due to conversion problem. She is going to call me tomorrow with all my results after figuring out conversion. I am on 75 mcg daily of synthroid. Anyone know what the correct conversion would be? Also, what can I expect to feel when I make the change? Any help appreciated.
1646889 tn?1301481228 It is possible to have a conversion problem, that is my issue, so my MD just took me off of Synthroid and put me on Armour three weeks ago, There is a math formula using your levels and reference ranges to determine if you have a conversion problem. If you want to post Free T3 and Free T4 with the reference ranges, I can figure it out and let you know.
Avatar f tn I was on 75mcg of synthroid and was put on 60mgs of armour to start.....I am now on 75mgs of armour. I had gone a little hypo though. What were your latest test numbers? Did your dr run your Free T3 as well? Do you have hashi's?
Avatar f tn 100mcg of levothyroxine is about 60mg of armour -- you need to work with a doctor to make sure the conversion works out for you and that labs are appropriate.
519035 tn?1348275773 Actually even 90 is quite high if you were on 100mcg Synthroid Usually 1 grain 60mg is a good fit after that amount of Synthroid you had,
Avatar f tn Would love to know from those that have done well on armour coming from Synthroid. Also, just take 88 mcg now and need to convert. Also, how long does it take your body to adjust from changing? Help!!!
87651 tn?1259602403 He said because the T3 in Armour is very fast acting and letting my body have a break in the 5 days will be an easier transition to the Armour. He said if I go from Synthroid to Armour I could get extremely hyper. Sound about right?
Avatar f tn I don't think Synthroid, per se, has so many problems. The problem is that we are all so very different. Some of us do fine on T4-only meds (like Synthroid). Some of us need both T4 and T3 (Cytomel). Some of us only do well on dessicated thyroid. In addition to the medications, there are fillers or binders in the different preparations that cause some people problems. We are dealing with a lifelong condition, so side effects, etc.
665125 tn?1273023924 So I have been on Synthroid for 3 years now. I recently had a complete Thyroidectomy and a Parathyroidectomy, is Synthroid the thyroid hormone supplement I should take, or natural? Has anyone had better results from Natural vs. Synthetic in regard to symthoms of being Hypothyroid?
324691 tn?1302551842 Hello, as far as I am aware you don't need to take as much Armour as Synthroid as Armour already has T3 which does not need converting in the body.
Avatar f tn t know what the conversion is from Synthroid to Armour but I am pretty sure that I am not on enough. Back in Dec before I started having some hyper symptoms and fluctuated into hyper I was on 100mg of Synthroid and now I am taking only 15mg of Armour. I will be going in for labs mid Aug. but I am just wondering if I am not on enough Armour could that be causing these muscle twitches ans weakness?
Avatar f tn I think its because the drug companys push Synthroid because it costs more, and Armour is not marketed as much. I have to pay full price for Synthroid b/c of my health care plan. I was thinking about changing to Levothyroxine (generic) but was told it is not as strong. Now I just don't know what to do. Please advise.
734073 tn?1278896325 Switched from a life time of Synthroid to Armour 5 months ago. I did not know of the reformulation problems until after we made the change. She was doing well until this last medication refill, about a month ago. We must have finally gotten a refill of the new Armour formula, because soon (within a week) after taking the refill, she began having severe joint aches(ankles, knees ,wrist and fingers). She has had musle cramps from time to time, but has never had joint pain before now.
558402 tn?1227060516 Some of them had to switch to Armour because of T3 conversion problems. Some switched after taking Synthroid for years, and have been feeling better the last few months. Some tried Armour and could not tolerate the extra T3 that it has. I've never had a problem with my T4/T3 ratio on Synthroid. My levels have been all over the planet, but I do not seem to have a shortage of Free T3 when my levels are correct. That said, each of us is different, and one med does not fit all.
Avatar n tn Does anybody have any experience taking both armour and cytomel together? Does the synthroid/cytomel combo help? Thanks.
