Synthroid vs armor thyroid

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid vs armor thyroid

synthroid

Avatar m tn Can you please post your actual thyroid blood test results? Be sure to include reference ranges, as those vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. There are a lot of people who do better on Armour, so it's always an option. There are also a lot of others that have tried it and gone back to synthroid/levothyroxine. You can always try it and if it doesn't make you feel better, you can switch back.
Avatar f tn After 4 years on Armor thyroid, my MD switched me to synthroid 25 mcg and cytomel 5 mcg 1 bid (tid prn). I am a 50 y.o females who is s/p total hysterectomy for ovarian ca. I take Estratest FS 4 X's week. I am feeling MUCH better with the Synthroid and Cytomel, however, my latest labs have come back as follows: TSH- .062 Free Thyroxin-- 1.
Avatar n tn I hear that natural thyroid or dessicated thyroid (one of the popular brand is Armor) is actually a much better medication that a T4 only medication like Ultroxin. I myself want to start with it, but am looking for a doctor who I can work with on this.
937837 tn?1285350385 What do you think is better? I am currenty on Synthroid, but I have discovered it contains Lactose, and I have been mildly lactose intolerante for years now. Most of the synthetic brands have lactose, so I think I might go to natural.
Avatar f tn I've been taking 60mg of armor thyroid for about 10 days and have noticed my symptoms like tiredness achiness and constipation have worsened. Could the Armor thyroid be causing this? My TSH is 6.230 T3 reverse is 9.8 T4 direct is 0.
Avatar f tn I just ran across your question from 2013. I too have white spots that began when I switched from Synthroid to Armor Thyroid. The first time I noticed it was right after thyroid surgery. I was put on Armor Thyroid and noticed white spots and some blisters on the sides of my lower legs. It seemed to get worse. My doctor changed my Thyroid to Synthroid, not because of the spots but for other reasons. Then the spots disappeared and skin returned to normal.
Avatar f tn Anyone experience body aches on Armour Thyroid? I'm on Armor 30 and it seems to work the best for me in terms of hypothyroid symptoms such as depression, fatigue, motivation, hair loss, excessive sweating etc. But it seems to give me severe body aches. I've searched for this topic but most of the information I'm seeing is from many years ago. I was hoping to get some more recent feedback on anyone's experience with armor. One post mentioned something about their liver hurting.

Avatar m tn At at 40 I had a TSH reading of 6 and started Armor, my doctor originally tried to put me on 50mcg of synthroid but I had too much anxiety. After years of struggling on dosages of 25 to approximately 50 mcgs (I know that armor had different levels equivalent) I had my gallbladder out and my thyroid finally gave up. At that point I added thyroxine over the next year to arrive at 75 mcgs. This is where all hell broke loose. I started to have panic attacks again and my body got way too warm.
Avatar n tn everyone is different on which one works for them, but I did finally switch over to Armor thyroid natural. I feeeeeel wonderful, no more brain fog, anxiety, mood swings or low energy. It took me a long time to finally decide to get off synthetic meds. I see a natural Dr. for the testing too, he has me do basil thermometer once a month with pulse rate etc. You can also try ask.com on why Dr.
Avatar m tn Whoops, I didn't list my readings on the tests in question My thyroid tests were the following TSH 18 range .3 to 3.0 T4 total 5.8 range 4.5 - 12.5 Free T4 .8 range .07 to 2.0 Free T3 2.35 range 2.3 to 4.2 These ranges look different than some of what I see you are all posting but my info says these ranges are correct? Do you all still think I should start taking synthroid again.
Avatar n tn Hi ms Bean I have had the same operation this past Decemer and am dealing with the same thing. I am still very fatigue from surgery and have been trying to figure out why. I have good days and bad days, but mainly tired days. I think it may take several months for the endos to fix the hormone levels, but I can't be sure of this. It is what I have been told several times anyways. I think too that the body freaks out after this surgery....
Avatar n tn Else combo of synthyroid and Armor (but you might feel better if the armor is dosed several times a day in smaller doses than in one dose in the morning). What are your actual levels? Did they test FT3 adn FT4 as well as TSH?
Avatar m tn I ended up going from 60mg armor all the way up to 180mg armor and when I was still tired all of the time my dr tested for antibodies and I got the diagnosis of Hashimotos. The armor stopped working and my tsh went hypo again and I got a reading of 7.4 and was just dead tired and my doctor put me back onto synthroid 175mcg. I was still having constant fatigue (it has neverrrrr gone away) and my t4 was crazy high and t3 was low so we added 12.5 cytomel.
Avatar f tn 11 then, I take 60 Armor thyroid. Should I go lower on the Levoxel ?
Avatar f tn I changed my thyroid medicine a year ago after having bp issue and spiking heart rates. I now take 100 mg sythroid I was very sick years ago when my armor was way too high tsh .00058 last year it was 37 they changed me a year ago it was okay but now i need to up my medication again but Im concerned because Im having small head rushes and dizziness on this synthroid for the first 3 hours has anyone else had any issues like this and do you have anxiety is when its low?
Avatar f tn I've been on synthroid for 10 years since I'm 22 and I've developed nothing but side effects from acid reflux to brain fog, hair loss, weight gain, and extreme fatigue. My doctor agreed Armour would be a good try and she started me at 120 mcg because she said that it's not usually exactly the same dosage and we'd check blood work in 4 weeks. Is this a good starting point?
Avatar f tn From 2006 to Feb 2008, I was on Armor Thyroid. The last dose was 3.5 grains. My TSH kept going up with each dose increase. The Endo I was seeing didn't know why. I left that Endo & now see MD who has me on 25 mcg Cytomel 3x daily. My TSH as of yesterday's blood draw is 25.75. My FT4 is .39 (.61-1.76 range) and FT3 is 3.2 (2.3-4.2 range). Is my TSH eratic because of Hashimotos? I won't take Synthroid again.
Avatar m tn There is a great natural supplement for the low thyroid called "Armor" it has no side effects and is not bad for you like synthroid can be at times. Have your doctor write you a prescription for it, you will probably feel better on it. Another good thing to take for the thyroid is Iodoral Iodine, however, it is a good idea to have the doc order the Iodine Loading Test for you and then test you for iodine levels.
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed May 30th 2010. Endo doc said, parathyroid are not working. I am on 127mg Synthroid 5 2" and 126. This endo will not consider any thing but Synthroid when I asked about Armor. I am tired and feel wired up have no energy and hard time sleeping. 6-8 lbs weight gain since may, hair falling out, Do not eat any more than I did before. Also gave me 75 calcitrol -3000 calcium,1200 magnesium. I suspect my adrenal glands are overworked Test are as follows: T3 113.
Avatar m tn Synthroid started the rumors about Armor years ago to merchandise their product. My family many low thyroid have been greatly helped by Armor thyroid and NO progress with synthetics.
Avatar n tn My doc recently doubled my Armor dosage from 120mg to 240mg taken simultaneously. Has anyone experienced this dramatic of an increase? Wouldn't this be the equivalent of 400mcg of levoxyl or synthroid? Hashi's ...been on Armor about 10 mos...switched from Levoxyl 150mcg to 90mg Armor...upped to 120mg in Nov....now DOUBLED? Any thoughtful opinions would be appreciated...
Avatar m tn i have no thyroid and have been on 175 of synthroid my free t3 test was low at 177 but my t4 is normal around 1.00. my doctor has switched me from synthroid 175mg to just cytomel at 50 mg . does this sound ok?
Avatar m tn Just before starting the synthroid I was beginning to experience sporadic heart palpitations again. I started on low dose of .25 mcg at 12 midnight (lowest dose possible and was pretty palp free all day with the exception of a few at night, then I woke up at 12 to take my meds and noticed I was having quite a few palps in the middle of the night which coincided with the time I took the meds the night before. I took the synthroid and within an hour they slowed to a stop.
Avatar f tn How many of you out there are taking Synthroid everyday for their thyroid disorders? How many on Levothyroxine? Notice any difference between the two?
Avatar n tn Should my doctor be using the TSH test since I am on Armour Thyroid. He always regulated my Thyroid using T4 and T3 but suddenly has begun using TSH. It is always hyper by that test but he keeps lowering my Armour and now I am having a lot of symptoms of low thyroid and my T4 is 6 on a scale 5-12.5. I sleep all day, only awake about 5 hours. I am so cold my toenails turn blue, my face has fallen and I look really strange. Feel really awful...
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism back in 1999, by an endocrinologist who was pretty progressive back then. He did the full thyroid panel, as I recall, and put me on Synthroid. The Synthroid made me feel anxious, and I did not continue for very long. After a few months, I stopped seeing the doctor. I’ve been having, what I now know to be thyroid symptoms, for years, but just started getting help from a doctor about 1.5 years ago.
