Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid reactions

synthroid

Avatar f tn I've been on Synthroid for about six-plus years. When finally diagnosed as hypo, my previous doctor said he wasn't even going to bother with generic because it doesn't work and put me on Synthroid. I knew my mother had issues with generic not working, so I wasn't going that route anyway. I've always insisted on name brand, but have had a doctor accidentally write a script for generic once before and it didn't work.
Avatar n tn Had cancer of the thyroid in 2008, thyroid totally removed, began treatment with Synthroid. Four months after surgery felt constriction at the throat and incessant coughing, together with a post-nasal drip that won't go away. Have been on heavy dosages of cortisone, to no avail. Symptoms improve only when I dramatically reduce the Synthroid dosage from 125 mcg to 50 mcg but then my TSH levels soar.
Avatar f tn Hope someone can help. I have had low to no thyroid function all my life. I was on synthroid made by "flint" from the age of 4. When flint stopped making it I had to switch to the now "synthroid brand and have had several allergic reactions. My doctor switched me to levothroid made by forest and it was awesome no side effects no swelling in my tongue or throat. I had no swallowing problems.
Avatar m tn anyway my doc prescribed 50mcg of synthroid and it made me feel better then very angry/anxious. synthroid has never done this but i have felt it not on synthroid. taking the synthroid causes it though. i think it is a hyperthyroid feeling. im also worried about the sudden shift. i had a whiplash neck injury. can that cause the change in tsh? or could it be dying? thanks for any help anyone can give.
Avatar n tn With Hashimoto's, should I take both Synthroid and Cytomel? Some docs prescribe both; others only the synthroid. What does the Cytomel add?
Avatar f tn I guess the only way to know for sure, is to try it. Has anyone made a lateral switch from Synthroid to Tirosint, meaning taking 100 mcg Synthroid one day and 100 mcg Tirosint the next? Thanks again for your time....
Avatar n tn When I was on 50 mg Synthroid, I would get very depressed (suicidal almost) every morning. Here were my lab results during that time (doctor at the time did not test FT3): 06/06/11 TSH 1.23 -- Free T4 1.2 I felt MORE suicidal on 50 mg Synthroid than I did on no thyroid medication at all. What should I have done in this situation and why do you think I became so depressed?
Avatar f tn Need answers to questions about symptoms you have that make you think you should consider switching. Also, what reactions do you get when increasing dose of Synthroid. What was your actual Free T3 and free T4 results, along with ranges, please?
Avatar n tn I am experiencing hair loss and thinning. Could T4/T3 help me? Is Levoxyl the same as Synthroid? Is there really anything that can help hair to grow back? I am an 80 year old woman, in excellent health aside from the loss of T4.
Avatar f tn Doc wanted to put me on t4 only ones now. I have tried generic synthroid, synthroid, levothroid, and levoxly and had bad reactions from them all at low dosage. Now not sure what to do. Just wondering if there are some out there that cannot take the t4 only and what do they do?
Avatar m tn Potential adverse reactions to Coumadin that may be precipitated by alternative medicines include fatal or nonfatal hemorrhage from any tissue or organ, bleeding that occurs when the PT/INR are falsely affected, necrosis of the skin and other tissues, and miscellaneous adverse reactions, including hypersensitivity/allergic reactions, purple toe syndrome, hepatitis, jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, vasculitis, edema, fever, rash, dermatitis, urticaria, malaise, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain
Avatar n tn If you read other posts, many patients have had bad reactions to synthroid. Your doctor may be reluctant to change things if your labs are normal, but there are other medicines to try. From reading other posts, it sounds like many people have had good luck with Armour...I am in the process of trying to get my daughter's doctor to try a different medication...if I can just get him to call me back......
Avatar f tn I am confused about something... The website says for Synthroid: Adverse reactions associated with levothyroxine therapy are primarily those of hyperthyroidism due to therapeutic overdosage. How can you have "therapeutic overdosage" if your thyroid levels are in hypo range? This confuses me.. Is it too much at once?
Avatar f tn As with any medication, Synthroid can also cause allergic reactions. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, including: An unexplained rash Hives Itching Unexplained swelling (especially of the lips, mouth, or throat)." *** Studies report that as many as 57.4% of patients with hives (urticaria) have the presence of thyroid antibodies.
Avatar f tn Can someone please explain to me what the difference is between Triosint & Synthroid. And is one better than the other for Hashimoto's thyroiditis?!?
Avatar n tn I was also going to add information about the fillers. Even through Synthroid is a "name brand" tablet - some people can have adverse reactions to this med too. Its what you find that works and stay with it. Many people ( for some reason) are developing lactose reactions. I am not sure if it has to do with the hormones being pumped into the cows more due to mass production of milk needed or what else is going on.
Avatar n tn He started needing synthroid about 2+ years ago and had no reaction to taking the synthroid. His arms and legs are covered in hives and he has tried cortisone creams and other oils to moisturize, but nothing helps. He had his Tsh checked a few months ago, and we didn't hear from the doctor, so assumed the same dose of synthroid was needed. Perhaps it is not so. This itching is making him miserable, and nothing helps.
Avatar n tn Have you tried a specific brand of levothyroxine? Some of us work best with a particular brand name. Personally, if I don't get Synthroid then it just won't work for me. Others have very different reactions. Talk to your Dr.
Avatar f tn I had a few blood tests done and dr said i needed to be on medication because my hashimotos numbers are low. So he started me on 25mcg of synthroid. I also have hay fever and asthma, is it still safe for me to take the synthroid because after i read more about it, it says the medicine can be sensitive with asthma types. I'm so confused? Will this hashimotos go away?
Avatar f tn t have an issue with the generics, but there are a few that have reactions to the fillers/binders - that can happen with Synthroid, as well. I actually did better on generics than I did on Synthroid. It's your choice as to whether or not to switch to an endo... not all endos are good thyroid doctors as many specialize in diabetes.
Avatar f tn I was just reading about this new T4 drug Tirosint that has no bad fillers. Only inactive ingredients are gelatin, glycerin and water. I've also been reading how some are having bad reactions like muscle cramps. I'm wondering what's causing that if the only thing in the pill is the T4, gelatin, glycerin and water.
Avatar f tn I also take toprol and synthroid. Any thought on taking these together? Thanks for any imput.

Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Levoxyl 50 mcg after being on Synthroid for years. 460348 tn?1213452322 m having so many problems sleeping at night and I was wondering if taking Tylenol PM or some kind of sleep aid would be ok to take with the Synthroid? I know there are certain things you can't ake when you have a thyroid but since I don't have one now I was wondering if there would be a problem??? I also read the post about the milk...I read some comments on that and was wondering if anyone out there does take their synthroid at night? I have terrible insomnia and tired all day...
