Synthroid milk

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid milk

synthroid

Avatar f tn I am taking Synthroid for my hypothyroidism. Is it ok to use Almond Milk as a dairy replacement for breakfast? it contains 20% of the daily recommended value of calcium and 25% of vitamin D, but the total protein of the breakfast (cereal and a hardboiled egg included) is 15g. Thanks in advance.
1129232 tn?1360800358 I'm wondering if anyone knows if having a cup of coffee or milk 1 hour after having my synthroid pill can affect the medication. My endo told me to make sure not to take any vitamins with iron or calcium for at least 4 hours after I take the pill. I definitely do not take my vitamins until a good 6 hours after synthroid but given that milk has calcium, i'm wondering if having milk can also affect the pill.
87651 tn?1259602403 Have been on Synthroid for 5 days now and I wanted to know if I can drink milk right away after dose or wait? I thought it was waiting 4 hours? I took mymeds today at 6:15am and had a bowl of cereal and glass of milk around 10am. Should I wait longer in the long run?
Avatar n tn I would like to have cereal and milk half an hour after taking synthroid. Is that ok?
Avatar f tn Having thyroid totally removed Feb.4th of this year I am now on synthroid 0.1 mg rxpak 100. Will having milk in coffee cause any problems with the medication? Usually I take med. around 6:30 am to 7:00 am and then have 1 to two cups of coffee about an hr. after with about 4 tb. milk. I would also like to know why it is taking cough medication or decongestents is unsafe, or are these some thing that can be used but at certain times?
Avatar f tn Gluten, peanuts, artificial sweeteners, regular milk (use almond milk) (I have also found a local dairy/farm that carries fresh goats milk and cows milk, so we are giving the goats milk a try which is high in protein and tast great with no hormones or preservatives) and sugar are avoided as much as possible (fungal and blood sugar issues with these). Eat REAL food with high protein as much as possible.
393419 tn?1228447393 For the 1st hour or so after I take my levothyroxine (synthroid) .175mcg, I get a shaky feeling, as time goes on, it dissipates. . .is this "relatively" normal, or is it something that I should mention to my doctor. I have a list of questions to ask him, but I'm loathe to ask too many silly ones of out of fear of being labeled a difficult or crazy patient. (i like & trust my doctor, but i fear that i'm one nutty question away from the edge.) thanks all!
1165078 tn?1338655745 Hi everyone, I was diagnosed Hypothyroid about 9yrs ago, and after I was put on Synthroid I lost all the xtra weight(yey me!) ..a yr ago I was switched from Dilantin to KeppraXR-1000mg/day for my epilepsy, but, I think its messing with my thyroid medicine.. My last test results he took yesterday was TSH- 0.011, Free T4- 1.99, I can't get him to do a Free T3, he says its not necessary. isnt my Free T4 to low? my TSH shows Hyper thyroid, but I feel like doggy doo and gaining weight..
Avatar m tn I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism, and I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I have tried several times to take calcium supplements within the guidelines when taking Synthroid, (more than 4 hours before or after taking med), and I become almost immediately exhausted, and sleep for 8-12 hours. I take only about 250 mgs of calcium, and vitamin D as well.
396278 tn?1207693392 I noticed minute Maid orange juice had calcium in it...so I wait untill after noon to get my juice and milk products. also i don't touch soy milk anymore..interfers with thyroid med. I had my RAI 7/07 TT w/ pap cancer. I read all the time on what foods will help me feel healther..and finally am feeling like I can start an excerise program..maybe join a group. Good luck to you and God bless.
Avatar n tn Hi, about three months ago, during a routine blood test, my liver enzymes were elevated in the 700 and 800 range. I went to a specialist, and he ordered tests, blood tests, and a sonogram, and a fecal test. All of my tests came back normal, and all types of hepatitis were ruled out. After subsequent blood tests, my enzyme count went down to just under 300, but in the latest test, they were back up to 500.
Avatar n tn Also I wait about an hour after taking my synthroid before I have my morning coffee (w/ a small amount of milk) or breakfast.
Avatar n tn I thought the biggest issue is calcium and now I have heard fiber may bind with the synthroid and make it either ineffective or less effective.
Avatar f tn do you know if hypothyroid causes low milk production because i have been nursing for 10 months now and my milk production is very low.
Avatar m tn As long as you have been consistant with when and how you take your Synthroid, it should be ok. The lab results will reflect how much synthroid your body is absorbing and hence the dosing is based on that. It is recommended to take on an empty stomach and wait at least 1/2 hour. If you decide to change your routine, you need to get tested again to make sure you are still at a good level.
179856 tn?1333547362 My doctor never let me know that you have to take the synthroid with WATER only. I've been taking it for years with a cup of tea (with milk) every morning. I just found out NOW that anything with calcium or vitamin D can cause it to be less effective. Apparently, it's on big letter on the sheet that they put with the med but I never read that...I stupidly just read the bottle and took the darn pills. Just in case someone else is making the same mistake.
Avatar f tn 01 on 1/19 and my milk production drastically decreased. I stopped taking my thyroid meds in desperation to get my milk supply back as fast as possible because even when we used the hypoallergenic formula my baby was still passing massive blood in her stool. Doctor also foolishly started me on domperidone to increase supply, I have one child already that I successfully bf without any issues for 18 months. Tsh was tested again on 2/8 and it was at 19.6.
Avatar f tn just need to switch out the milk. I prefer unsweetened almond milk, but you could try any soy, almond, or coconut milk as a sub. I'm a huge coffee addict, so I can't function without my coffee. I also do the oatmeal thing, or make a dairy free smoothie, or baked goods. I do penut butter sometimes.
Avatar f tn I am also having this prblm...they have increased my dose..getting it done after 12 days...i am taking 125 thyroxine. what dose u r taking...what were ur Tsh levels in test?
Avatar m tn t want to take these but I need to sleep. I had a follow-up visit with the surgeon on 24th and he put on .125 mg synthroid...I have been taking these in the morning plus the Caltrade D about 4 hours later. I still have tremendous difficulty sleeping and an emotional mess, feeling sad / depressed, my mind is going crazy. I have a visit with my endo on the 30th I never had problems sleeping or napping during the day before this surgery.....
Avatar f tn I was put on 150 mcg of Synthroid for over a year and recently received a call from my doctor saying my levels were low and prescribed me 125 mcg of Synthroid. I don't understand why he did that. Isn't 150 mcg a higher dosage than 125 mcg?
Avatar f tn t really tollerate milk so started to drink soy, but found it DID make a difference in the size of my goiter and my Dr. told me to stop drinking soy milk! I switched to either rice or Almond milk - which by the way are both REALLY delicious - especially the chocolate almond milk! I can't seem to keep it in the house as my kids LOVE it and drink it like it's a milkshake or something! They are cacium forified too.
87651 tn?1259602403 Havent had any really since. So he called, didnt leave the numbers, just said I was on too much of the Synthroid and wanted to lower the dose. I am not so keen on this. I mean first, I went 3 weeks early from my 6 week checkup and are the meds really leveled at this time and he can see something that shows that I truly am on too much of the meds? I left him a message saying I wanted to speak to him directly, that I wanted numbers and how much lower.
Avatar n tn I really feel strongly about breast feeding but I am having a great deal of trouble producing enough milk. My TSH level is 0.01 and my OBGYN wants me to reduce my Synthroid from 1.75 to 1.25. I feel great, no signs of "over medication". I question reducing my dosage. Is he right? Will reducing my dosage help me produce more breast milk?
Avatar f tn Hi, even with breast milk the baby needs replacement thryoid hormone. This is urgent and very important for his normal physical and intellectual development. Lack of thyroid hormone in infancy causes severe mental retardation. His level will depend on his test results. You need to get him on meds asap, if he is not already. He will need regular testing also until his levels reach target. This would be in the upper half of the reference range for FT3 and FT4.
Avatar n tn I have since started taking double my medication and got some of my milk back but the milk supply is not what it should be. I just switched doctors again because I moved. My questions are: Is pain a common symptom of hypothyroidism? Is anxiety and grouchiness normal? How do I talk to my doctor about going a little higher on the medication even before the test results are in? Is Cytodel a treatment that may also help me? Please help.
144586 tn?1284666164 Us there any flavoring that can be added to Synthroid to make it more palatable without destroying effectiveness. Apple sauce is often recommended, but the literature suggests this binds with the medication and one recives an uneven doseage.
