Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid iodine

synthroid

Avatar n tn does anyone know if iodine is in my multivitamin if this will affect my labs, synthroid dose???
Avatar m tn I had rai 25 yrs ago and feel that my body may benefit from kelp. Synthroid is made from iodine .The thryroid gland regulates iodine. So my question is ..how am i regulating it now without glands. I believe that the kelp will help the synthroid conversion from t4 which is all syn is ..to t3 which our bodies need. My body has a hard time converting and storing synthroid. Im willing to bet the kelp will allow my body to work better.
Avatar f tn Also, I was not aware of Synthroid having iodine, how much is too much iodine? My vitamins have iodine also. I will begin doing some research regarding this, and will lbe ooking forward to anything you may find out about this aswell.... Hope you are feeling better soon, good luck!
Avatar f tn Endo prescribed synthroid. I went even more hyper, this showed in test. Stopped synthroid, started desiccated thyroid. Health did a 180, but still not feeling well. My dr at first didn't believe my illness had anything to do with thyroid, she sent me to mental health, who ordered more thyroid testing. Does anyone have any experience with iodine induced thyroid disorders. I've been unwell for months and just want to get better.
Avatar f tn ve been regularly supplementing with iodine whereas before supplements and only on synthroid, my temperature was jumping up and down, but consistently trending lower. Part of me is wondering if it's the thyroid medication finally kicking in and not due to the iodine. Did any of you get worse while on synthroid for the first 2-3 weeks? I could understand not getting better, but is it normal to feel worse? And would iodine have that quick of an effect on thyroid issues? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I had the RAI treatment last year but the last scan still showed cancer in my neck area. I am getting ready for my next treatment. This time he had me start the low-iodine last week and stop taking my Synthroid for 2 weeks.. So Monday coming (the 13th).. I am going in to get shot #1 of the Thyrogen then Tuesday shot #2 then am I understanding correctly? I get the RAI (I131) pills again skip a day then get my scan of Friday?
Avatar f tn The only way you can treat the thyroid with iodine is if its caused by iodine defeciency! to much iodine can cause the thyroid to malfunction! Thats what i think anyway! The reason its treated by iodine is cause there isn't enough in the body (which is rare).. So the artifical meds are needed to relapce the hormone on there!!! I have hypothyroidism and think that the symptoms you have described are both the anxiety and thyroid!
161647 tn?1280608163 Hi everyone. I haven't posted in so long but I value everyone's opinion so here's my question. I've been looking to change my multi-vitamin and I found Nature's Way Alive Once Daily. The only thing is that it contains 150 mcg of Iodine (as potassium iodide) . I'm hypo and have hashi's. Also had a partial thyroidectomy and I'm taking synthroid. Is it wise to take the iodine. Does anyone know of any side effects? React with synthroid?
Avatar n tn My wife is having ratiation iodine treatment next month and starts her low-iodine diet on Monday (July 28). I am concerned that the doctor just switched her from cytomel to synthroid and told her to continue taking this until her treatment. I was under the impression that she should stop synthroid two weeks before the treatment.
Avatar n tn I also take Now Kelp from iherb which contain 150mcg of iodine. I read that the daily recommended intake of iodine is 150mcg, however the upper limit is 1100mcg. Since I have been taking the iodine, I have noticed that I have more energy and my dry skin has gotten much better and my bowels are back to normal( I used to have very loose stool and everything upset my stomache). Now I can tolerate foods that I was unable to before. My Dr. has me taking 150mcg of Synthroid daily.
Avatar f tn There's a thread here on to iodine or not to iodine. Typically, it depends on why your thyroid is off -- if it's dead completely, it's too late for iodine (which is what the kelp has in it that helps the thyroid). If it's hyperthyroid, iodine is usually not recommended. And it probably isn't recommended if the problem is an autoimmune disorder, such as Hashimoto's. But there's controversy here.
Avatar f tn Does anyone take Iodine for their thyroid, while on synthroid? Would it make nodules worse? I keep hearing it's ok to take.
1495281 tn?1305307348 would be a bad idea to take iodine while you are taking syntnroid? 5 months ago i was diagnosed with hypothyroid ever since ive been taking 150 mcg day of synthroid.
739097 tn?1232231492 Your thyroid is not the only part of your body that requires iodine, your WHOLE body does. So yes Iodine supplementation is very important, and some people who have had their thyroid removed have regrown their thyroid (this is actually a wonderful thing since people really just blindly walk into surgery and feel just as bad after the surgery if not worse). You can find more information about the importance of iodine at theiodineproject.
Avatar n tn I would think though that you need to be off of it so that your body is depleted of iodine prior to the test. I would call and ask your doc and if he says to keep taking the Synthroid then I'd ask why.
Avatar f tn So, now's my chance...I'm off the Synthroid -cold turkey...(I'm making a voodoo doll of my endo :0 ! -These swings back and forth are going to make me nuts!...Ah well,I'm pretty sure I was being over-medicated anyway)...So...If I can stimulate my thyroid to kick into gear before my Endo gets any ideas of putting me back on the Synthroid (I'm post-thyroiditis), maybe I won't need it? I'm taking kelp supplements and eat seafood regularly...
Avatar f tn Hi my question is l have just ordered some Iodine supplements that contains both iodine and selenium, as well as Vitamin B2 (riboflavin),but after reading the posts here and information on the intranet l am totally confused as to if it is safe for me to be taking the supplements l have just ordered. Especially as I was diagnosed with Hashi's approx. three years ago after a spell of hypothyroidism which was corrected with a small dose of thyroxine (25mg) for 3mth.
Avatar f tn I got post partum thyroiditis about 4 years ago, they did radioactive iodine to kill it. I have been on synthroid ever since and I am currently taking 200mcg per day. I went to the doctor for just some routine blood work and my tsh came back at 12.8 and my t4 at 0.78. He called me back to the office and felt of my thyroid and agreed that it was enlarged and he wanted to do another Ultrasound. The tech who did my ultrasound couldnt tell me much but she kept asking if I had problems swallowing.
Avatar n tn Normal medicine prohibits iodine supplements on top of Synthroid because too much iodine can contribute to thyroid cancer. What are your thoughts on this?
Avatar f tn s iodine in thyroid medication. I want to find an answer so I can get her to stop pushing me to take iodine. I have Hashi's and every time I take anything with iodine I immediately get vertigo. Is the iodine in thyroid meds different than iodine in kelp or fish oil?
901131 tn?1293744553 Anyone know if taking iodine supplements for thyroid problems have any effect on the liver. I just recently learned of a possible Thyroid condition and was thinking of trying thyroid complex before trying a prescribed drug. I would be taking 250 mcg a day.
Avatar f tn OK HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH SYNTHROID? I HAVE BEEN ON 200 MCG FOR THE LAST 8 MONTHS AND HAS BEEN FINE, NOW MY THYROID IS ENLARGED AND MY TSH IS 12.8 AND T4 0.78. THEY DID AN ULTRASOUND BUT IT WILL BE FOUR WEEKS BEFORE THEY GET THE RESULTS BACK, THEY SENT IT TO A SURGEON TO READ, HOWEVER IN THE MEANTIME HE INCREASED MY DOSE TO 250MCG.
