Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid glucose

synthroid

Avatar f tn Hello Doctor, I was diagnosed with thyroiditis last year at age 57, but I'm not sure what kind. I started out hyper which my doctor treated with beta blockers to slow my heart rate. Then I went hypo, and I've been on 50 mcg of Synthroid for the past year. My last TSH was 2.98. My question is regarding blood glucose. My last fasting test was 127. I've always tested under 100. I'm fearful of developing diabetes. Is the synthroid causing my blood sugar to rise?
Avatar n tn t the medication. I had fasting glucose, glucose tolerance, cortisol, etc., testing but all is normal. My weight gain now is about five pounds a year---doesn't sound like much but now that I'm 43, it really is. Being 5'4" and 180 pounds is not good at all for me, when my max was about 140. I realize metabolic rates slow down as we age, but it also seems that I have to really starve myself for any weight to budge and exercise is kind of so-so on it all.
929504 tn?1332585934 Oh Yes....I truly believe that it can and it does. If you haven't noticed, that "little" pill is the "sweetest" tasting pill I have ever had and that is why i looked up the ingredients online and also decided to test my levels before the pill verses after and i can guarantee that when i take it in the morning, it will be the same as today. I have not had a result of my AC1 being 6.4 before taking the synthroid and as far as my levels without the synthroid....
Avatar m tn Synthroid should be taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, then eat or drink nothing else for at least 30-60 minutes. It's also recommended that you not take most vitamin/mineral supplements within 4 hours of taking synthroid (levothyroxine). I did a quick search for drug interaction and came up with the possibility that synthroid may inhibit the absorption of metformin, thereby causing hyperglycemia or glucose intolerance.
Avatar n tn My thyroid levels were very similar to yours and it was discovered that I have a condition called Metabolic Syndrome, which is a cluster of conditions consisting of high blood pressure, high blood glucose (fasting blood glucose over 100 is impaired), high triglycerides or cholesterol, excess body fat around the waist. Having just one of the components doesn't qualify as Metabolic Syndrome; you must have at least 3 of them.
Avatar f tn First labs are pre synthroid, 2nd labs are after about 6 weeks. No change in the 50 mcg synthroid dose. I get new labs Monday. I've talked to a nurse friend and she said if T3 was elavated too high, that could possibly affect blood glucose. I don't know, but very worried and can't wait to get the labs Monday. Doc based diagnosis on strong family history of hashimotos and low results. Antibodies weren't done.
787406 tn?1339203183 Endo messed up and waited too long to do RAI and TSH climbed up to 150. Was put on Synthroid 75mcg for 1 week and then raised to 100mcg. Its been 3 and 1/2 weeks on meds and i started feeling real bad again except this time with pain in left side and back, diarrhea, ocular migraines, racing heart rate and neck pain. So endo sent me for STAT bloodwork and my TSH came back 234.
Avatar f tn I have taken synthroid 50mg for the last five months I have gained thirty pounds. I originally went to the doctor for weight gain and my daughter had Hashimotos and I knew I had pcod. I am 5'2 and 219 lbs I am on a roller coaster I am fatter than ever. The doctor said I had Diabetes two but gave no medication and I my sugar is about between 90 and 100 when I wake I eat a bowl of cereal it goes to 140.
Avatar f tn Just to add, I also have never had an abnormal blood glucose but severe insulin resistance and pre diabetes which was confirmed on a oral glucose tolerance test (with insulin also tested).
Avatar n tn 6 I am presently using Levemir Flex Pen (22) before bed. I take synthroid for hypothyrodism (10 yrs) and recently started taking crestor for high cholesterol (which is now within normal range) I 58, female and over-weight. Question: I want to start taking 200 mcg of chromium picolinate to help with my diabetes. Is this safe to take with the medications I am currently taking? Also, when is the best time to take it. I test my blood sugar every morning (fasting) and before bed.
Avatar f tn I have Hashi's/Hypo and have been taking Synthroid for 7 months. I noticed over the past few weeks that I feel absolutely terrible after I eat. I don't usually eat breakfast so I eat my lunch around 11 am. After I eat, I get dizzy, lightheaded and extremely tired. I have been putting my head down at work for about 30 minutes everyday and normally I doze off hard for at least 10 minutes. Could this have something to do with my sugar levels? I feel fine in the morning when I wake up.
Avatar f tn t performed in the hospital) Should we have them check his glucose levels (I have checked them here at home because sometimes he starts feeling "doped up" and dizzy so I check the levels here). Today, one hour after eating sausage eggs and two pieces of toast, his blood sugar was only 72....is this the whole cause for his problems? ARe we dealing with muliple problems? HELP!!! I don't trust the doctors here in this little town.
Avatar n tn After removal of pheochromocytomas and total neck disection I was put on 125 of Synthroid. I started gaining weight very fast (went from 137lb to 150lb within 2 months - huge deal considering that have been the same weigh +/-3 for over 8 years). I also started to become very depressed. I was switched to 112 Synthroid and 5 Cytomel. The weight stabilized at 142lb - great! However, the depression is still here, I still get tired, and my toes and fingers get uncontrollably cold lately.
808221 tn?1242744188 Can somebody explain to me why my morning(bbkfast) glucose levels fluctuate like they appear to be doing. I try to eat dinner at about the same time also I take two 500 mg metformin pills in the morning and one in the evening with meals. I try to stay away from bad carbs, sugars and starches. I read labels very carefully to avoid pitfalls. Or are my sugar levels ok. I feel like I should have my levels down below 120 mg/dl, or am I expecting too much.
5584884 tn?1370371308 I walked away from high cholesterol, Insulin Resistance and elevated glucose that remained above 220 beginning in August 2002. I got no traction from my Blue Cross physician. He was later convicted of being a voyeur...he liked little girls. I bought a cholesterol meter and my sister helped me with the Glucose Tolerance Tests. I have not been pain free since a workplace accident in 1998. they pumped me full of pain pills and hoped I would resolve or disappear.
878888 tn?1319634044 She gave me samples of Synthroid 112 mcg as she said thyroid was extremely high and ordered an a1c test as blood sugar has been slightly elevated for last six year (never high enough to be actual diabetes) was told I was insulin resistant when it first started. So nurse calls me back and tells me to keep taking synthroid and doctor strongly recommend I do the low blood sugar diet and lose weight as levels were slightly high.
458072 tn?1291415186 Due to inability to tolerate armour, I am starting synthroid today. It seems there are nothing but horror stories here about this stuff. Can anyone give me a GOOD expereince with synthroid? to give me a little big of hope.

277535 tn?1218136198 I am 31 yo female, 5.5, 134 lbs, very athletic and active. Currently on 112 mcg Synthroid since Oct 2008. Labs done on 12/1 TSH 0.34 (0.34-5.6) - TSH was 2.58 in Oct on 100 mcg synthroid. TT3 88 (97-219) flagged low Endo won't run FreeT4 or freeT3. I am not sure why not though since I am on T4 meds. Had a CBC at the same time as well and glucose was low at 72 (74-118) and Osmo Serum Calcium low at 274 (275-295).
1891163 tn?1321119046 Wow! My doc had me on Synthroid, 100's. Been on it about a year now. I have had heart palpitations, shortness of breath, hair loss and dizziness too! But the doc says, "You'll have more energy, feel less tired, and maybe lose some weight". I didn't have a low energy level to begin with, I slept fine at night and I don't need naps, and never lost any weight. Doc now says I have anxiety issues and wanted to put me on Zoloft. I blame the Synthroid.

Avatar n tn 088MCG synthroid. I feel very emotional and depressed in the last few weeks. How long before I feel better?? I did not feel like this the first few weeks after surgery.
Avatar n tn I gained 30 pounds and I started to develop other symptoms as well. I have been taking Synthroid since. in my last blood test my TSH level was very low but I still have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Not as severe as they were 2 years ago but for example it's impossible for me to lose weight. Even after 30-45 minutes exercise per day and watching carefully what I'm eating. Has anyone been in this situation?
