Are there certain foods that I should avoid to prevent weight gain? Should I cut my alcohol and coffee consumption? I feel bloated especially at the end of the day. I've been on Synthroid 25mg for a week now and I feel my face is puffy and round. I also have an increased appetite! I'm 55 years old and in menopause and I really don't want to gain weight. I'm relatively physically active. Walks every day.
Does everyone gain weight with Hashimotos and hypothyroid. It is so depressing. I am thinking on going on WW or Nutrisystem, but will I lose weight if my thyroid is still screwed up? I have low motility too when it comes to digestion too. Took the sitz test and an average person can poop out the beads in 2 days and it took 7 for me.
What have other done? I am frustrated!
I realize metabolic rates slow down as we age, but it also seems that I have to really starve myself for any weight to budge and exercise is kind of so-so on it all. Has anybody experienced weight gain AFTER Synthroid treatment for Hashimoto's? I realize the weight gain usually is a symptom, not a result. Thanks very much.
I lost six pounds in the last month, and am now gaining it back. I do not want to lose anymore weight and would like to gain it back. But, I am very faithful with my thyroid meds, I take it each morning as prescribed on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. There are times where I gain weight for no reason as well. I do find that most people who have thyroid disease are overweight and can't take any off. Be careful.
I am one of many who has experienced weight gain on Synthroid. I was nearly 49 last year when I started it at 50mcg. After 6 months, my doctor asked why I gained 8 lbs and based on blood results raised my dose to 75. Last week, now nearly 50, I have gained 16 pounds total. The last time that happened was Freshman year of college.
When TSH levels are too high, it means that you are hypo. Although some people gain weight whether hypo or hyper, weight gain is traditionally associated with hypo. Increasing Synthroid should allow you to better maintain your weight.
Please check your dosage...are you taking 100 mcg and being increased to 120?
Your doctor should be adjusting your meds based on free T3 and free T4 as well as TSH. Does he test FT3 and FT4 as well?
I was wondering if it common to gain an excessive amount of weight while exercising regularly and eating healthy. I am currently training for a marathon and running about 9 miles a day or more and I eat rather well. I can't seem to shed any pounds but actually have gained about 10-15 pounds in the last month. I haven't weighed this much since I gained the freshman 15 two years ago. I was back down to 148 over the summer but all of a sudden I am at 164. Is this common????
Thanks for telling me that. I just don't understand the weight gain thing with synthyroid. What was your TSH? How long were you on the meds? I would like my symptoms better but I don't want any weight gain. I weigh 100lbs. Why do Dr's say you don't gain weight from it? My dr. told me it will correct any weight gain if that happens. Is it because you need to be on the right dose? How long til you gained the 3 lbs? Do you work out? I do.
