Synthroid for thyroid nodules

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid for thyroid nodules

synthroid

Avatar f tn Is taking Synthroid 125mg. a viable treatment option for this? I would really LOVE to feel normal again!
243059 tn?1202377352 My thyroid has been aching ever since I started taking Synthroid. I first took the generic brand then switched to regular Synthroid ( the more expensive kind.) I am stil experiencing discomfort on both sides of my neck where your thyroid is located. I have had my thyroid " palpitated" to see if the docs feel anything but they never seem alarmed. Can Nodules be found by simply pressing on your thyroid? Has anyone else had pain in their thyroid since being on their meds?
Avatar f tn Why is it that with each ultrasound (4) they find new nodules - shouldn't Synthroid keep it under control?
174468 tn?1300059528 t seem prominent as to why either on thyroid except for Hashimoto patients. That too I find odd as I am Hashitoxicosis - underwent RAI for misGraves only dx and after RAI - Iodine certainly improved my condtion along with needing T3 medication to keep things healthy.
Avatar n tn i was just recently diagnosed with a small nodule on the right side of my neck , the dr is sending me for an ultrasound , im scared to death . should my dr try synthroid first???
769702 tn?1236117192 t be alarmed. Nodules are typical for Hashis. When the antibodies attack the thyroid, we get these bursts, creating nodules, which can have live thyroid hormone in them. When the nodules leak, we Hashi hypos suddenly go hyper. Docs will usually not want to remove the nodules unless they are over 2.0 cm. With enough Synthroid, nodules will shrink. They would rather biopsy nodules, which is less painful than the dentist.
Avatar f tn Endo prescribed synthroid. I went even more hyper, this showed in test. Stopped synthroid, started desiccated thyroid. Health did a 180, but still not feeling well. My dr at first didn't believe my illness had anything to do with thyroid, she sent me to mental health, who ordered more thyroid testing. Does anyone have any experience with iodine induced thyroid disorders. I've been unwell for months and just want to get better.
Avatar f tn s and indeterminate on the other. Could too much synthroid for years have caused nodules? If I have nodules typical for those with Hashimoto's how can I not need synthroid?
Avatar f tn The multiple highly mobile nodules are in most cases not cancerous. Some people are having the nodules for 20 years without the symptoms. the AACE recommends to do thyroid neck check on monthly bases to check to detect the any rapid enlargment of the nodules. In the past the L-thyroxine used to be prescribed in this case but such treatment was not effective in most cases.
Avatar f tn no we have a family history of thyroid nodules and goiters and I am hypo with a partial thyroidectomy, I have 2 nodules on my remaining left thyroid. My mother was put on meds to shrink nodules but had no luck. mine have not shrunk at all on synthroid though I take it for hypothyroidism. I had shed little hair being hypo but not to bad. I wish you luck that it will work for you.. can I ask why they are trying to shrink it? is it really large or bothersome.?
Avatar f tn 2cm nodule on my left thyroid was a Goiter. I have two smaller nodules (mm) as well. My PCP wants to treat with Synthroid, 125 mg. per day. My endo just had his office call me and tell me to follow up in 6 months, no meds. So far, my blood work has been normal, but in the low end of the normal range. My sister has Hashimotos and is being treated for it. I have many of the Hashi symptoms.
Avatar n tn My endo started me on 50 mcg(0.05 mg) of Synthroid to take once a day to try and shrink my cystic nodules because they are really bothering me. After being on the synthroid for two months, she told me to stop taking it because it's not working, she said nothing has changed and therefore in she wants me to get radioactive therapy this week to shrink my cystic nodules. She also told me that my nodules are toxic.

Avatar f tn my physcian felt nodules around my thyroid. i have been on synthroid for many years...hypoactive....i recently went for a ultrasound of my thyroid...which results were enlarged thyroid lobes which demonstrate diffuse heterogeneous echotexture and nodularity w/o evidence of definite discrete nodules. thyroid lobes are symmetrically enlarged. right thyroid lobe measures 7.6x2.5x3.4cm. left lobe 7.4.x 2 x 2.5 cm. the isthumus appears thickened and measures 6mm.
Avatar n tn I was told I had hot nodules at the time I was diagnosed. I recently underwent a thyroid sonogram which confirmed a multinodular goiter with dominant mass occupying the lower pole and thyroid isthmus....described as: dominant heterogeneous mass in lower pole 2 x 1.9 x 1.7 cm and a hypoechoic sold nodule in central portion of thyroid isthmus 8.4 mm in thickness.
Avatar f tn Multiple thyroid nodules in both thyroid lobes consistent with multinodular goiter. Before meds: T4: 5.5 Free T4: .7 TSH: .64 Thyroid Peroxidase Ab: 25.9 Thyroglobulin Antibody: 114.7 Recommended: 4 week followup bloodwork and Levothyroxin 50 mcg daily After meds (Levothyroxin 50 mcg) for 4 weeks: T4: 9.5 Free T4: 1.2 TSH: <.10 Thyroid Peroxidase Ab: 34.3 Thyroglobulin Antibody: 152.
2644165 tn?1387244348 I was diagnosed with non-toxic multinodular goiter a year ago and was put on the 50mcg of Synthroid a year ago today. I have solid nodules in both thyroid lobes. However, the imaging clinic has had two different doctors perform ultrasounds on my neck/thyroid and the reports from both conflict determining if the nodules are cystic and solid or just solid. Regardless, I do have small solid nodules in both.
8291310 tn?1397506980 The gist is that everything is coming back way higher than it should be, especially with me being on the high dose of synthroid for so long. ( I started at synthroid 100-worked up to 300) I have 5 nodules, majority of them on the right side-1 large one on the left. My doctor is telling me that I will be able to take a lower dose of synthroid and reduce the risk of the nodules becoming a major issue. I understand I will always be Hypo.
Avatar n tn i have a thyroid nodule/adenoma and my doctor just put me on synthroid 100mcg for 4 months to shrink this adenoma is this process correct ???
Avatar n tn She treated me with antibiotics and ordered thyroid studies after feeling a nodule in my neck. I had thyroid ultrasound and found 2 nodules on right side. My thyroid hormones showed hyperthyroid and I had palpitations. After the infection cleared I was tested again and found to have hypothyroid. We discussed what to do and I was referred to an endocrinologist for follow up. What I am wondering is can the thyroid correct itself or will I need to take synthroid forever?
Avatar f tn I am starting to have some side affects from Synthroid and starting to feeling bad. Just for the record my Thyroid levels were normal when the lump was discovered. Also if the medicine doesn't work what is normally the next step? I am 43, two children and have Fiber Cyst disease in the breasts.
229857 tn?1319029907 I had many nodules last May. The biopsies of the nodules were benign. I just went in for a follow-up ultrasound, and the nodules have shrunk. They are too small to biopsy, so I am thrilled. My thyroid hormone (Synthroid, but there are many brands) has shrunk the nodules. If the biopsies are big enough, then, you will probably get biopsies (FNA) and it hurts less than a trip to the dentist. I drove myself to my biopsy.
Avatar n tn ) Is it common for thyroid nodules to develop AFTER Synthroid has been started? My doctor suggested an uptake scan which I refused as I do not want to be off of Synthroid for any extended time. She has referred me to a surgeon and my appointment is next week. Should I insist on a biopsy even though the largest nodule is only 9 mm? Thank you so much for your time.
2644165 tn?1387244348 The feeling you describe in your throat isn't unusual for people with thyroid issues. Both a goiter (swollen thyroid) and nodules can cause that feeling. Thyroid meds can help to shrink both. Do you have recent labs to post? Please include reference ranges (they vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. Nodules are very common, especially with Hashi's. Very few are malignant. Any nodule less than 1 cm is seldom biopsied. Do you know if you have Hashi's?
Avatar f tn Not really answering your question but I went for RAI in January 2007, Just two tablets with a glass of water ! Thyroid levels took six months to go below normal. Then started with Synthroid at 75 mcg. Dose eventually settled at 125 mcg. after year and half.
Avatar n tn s have nodules. Often, nodules will shrink with the correct dosage of replacement thyroid hormones. Thyroidectomy is not, typically, done because of Hashimoto's, since Hashimoto's, eventually, destroys the thyroid anyway. It sounds like you may not be on optimal dosage or you may have other conditions compounding your problem. If you can provide the requested information, we'll try to help you sort it out.
