Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid for kids

synthroid

Avatar f tn I am thinking of going back to the Levo/Cytomel combo my doc first perscribed me. If only to relieve the arthritis and bloating symptoms I get from the T4 only drug... He is a highly respected endo in the "thyroid" field! I was perscribed the "combo" post TT for cancer. After trying the "combo" for a few months, and having some problems sleeping, I went to Synthroid only... (the name brand gig... yada yada yada)... I wanted to try converting my own T4!
Avatar m tn Is it standard procedure to use Synthroid on normal TSH, + or - hyper/hypo levels. What is considered normal ranges for prescribing synthroid for an enlarged thyroid.
92903 tn?1309904711 I had a nodule discovered by my PCP. The Endo said that whatever type of nodule it was (I didn't pay a great deal of attention to the name - fluid filled I think was the key attribute), these are almost always benign. He was shocked to see the patho report come back 'suspicious'. Now I'm slated for a partial thyroidectomy, and they will do a 'frozen section' on the table, and depending on what they find there, they'll go further if waranted.
Avatar n tn I had to be off my Synthroid for five weeks before I took the RAI pill. Most doctors say six weeks, but I was ready at five weeks and sick enough the doctor did not want to wait another week. Two weeks is not enough. It takes six weeks to get Synthroid completely out of your system. The RAI may work after a month with no Synthroid, but two weeks is certainly not "standard procedure". I would make further inquiries.
Avatar n tn Entered the hypo phase 3 months ago. I have been on 50mcg Synthroid for 2 months now. My TSH is now normal. My question is becuase I do not have the Hashimotos thyroiditis should I still be taking synthroid? Is it bad to be on the Synthroid if I do not need it? What is the typical length of time someone with subacute thyroiditis should be on Synthroid? Will the being on Synthroid possibly prevent me from every making my own thyroid hormone again? Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn I had a thyroidectomy 6 years ago and was on Synthroid for a long time before and after that. Switched to Armour at my request. For 2 years now, debilitating body aches, fatigue, etc This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/263550'>Post Thyroidectomy</a>.
Avatar n tn You can actually take synthroid. Make sure you are monitored very carefully. My need for more synthroid actually doubled. You need to be on the right dose or the baby could be small.
Avatar n tn 1988 my thyroid gland was removed and have been stable on Synthroid since until last year. My doctor feels I should remain on Synthroid even though I am still hypothyroid. See results below and please comment. Thank you. 8/23/06, TSH = 0.8, dose of Synthroid = 100uIU/ml 2/21/07, TSH = 2.1, dose of Synthroid = 100uIU/ml 4/2/08, TSH = 16.6, dose of Synthroid =100 uIU/ml. Dose of Synthroid changed to 125uIU/ml on 4-7-08 6/13/08, TSH (GEN3) = 0.
Avatar n tn My wife has been diagnosed as having hypothyroid problems and has been prescribed Synthroid. She has been on synthroid for 2 years now with no improvement in her condition. Her tests always come up normal. As Synthroid is the only meds given her for this problem, can her tests always come up normal ? Her latest test showed Thyroxine (T4) 7.3 T3 Uptake 34.8 TSH 3rd Gen 3.
Avatar n tn I guess the next thing would be the need for synthroid which you should not need with the partial.
Avatar m tn Will the goiter in my neck go down once the synthroid kicks in? And my mind...this is what concerned me the most- I am in a fog, people (kids) talk to me and it just doesn't click. I always am having them repeat themselves. I forget small tasks like stopping at the store....I drive right by it. I took a Biology class last semester and had to drop out because nothing registered...I would study for hours and still struggle with tests and labs.
492307 tn?1214186739 She started me on 75 mcg of synthroid, and gave me a prescription for Wellbutrin since I was getting worse with my depression by the day. I haven't started the Wellbutrin, but I have been on the 75 mcg for 5 days. I would like to start the Wellbutrin tonight because the synthroid might take to long to kick in if it ever does. Now the REAL question.... Will the Wellbutrin interact with the synthroid?? Plus I was going to switch my synthroid to night...
Avatar f tn If one still has their thyroid, how long will it take after going off Synthroid for its functioning to return to 'normal.' For this question, 'normal' means simply functioning the way it did before taking Synthroid.
2086869 tn?1358362730 Dr., you commented on a post of mine a week or so ago and I was hoping for some additional insight. In my post, I had stated that my TSH AND T4 levels were both low and you indicated that I should considered seeing an endocrinologist to make sure my pituitary function is normal. Could you tell me ... is it "normal" for a TSH level to diminish almost completely while on Synthroid? I have hear YES and I have heard NO. Here are my lab results for the last 5 years ... Free T4 1.
Avatar n tn I'm pretty sure they want your TSH to be high for RAI. Have you been started on synthroid yet? After RAI your synthroid will keep your TSH low for cancer suppression. My RAI was 5 months after surgery so I was started immediately on synthroid, then given Thyrogen prior to RAI. Some have RAI soon after surgery, so are left to go hypo, and not put on meds. until after RAI.
87651 tn?1259602403 Dr Lupo- Is there a difference between levothyroxine and Synthroid or is the Levo generic for the Synthroid? If I suggest that I do not want a generic version, could my needs be met?
Avatar f tn I'm with purplekate28...still hypo more than 6 months post op but down 20 lbs....I had a few months in there where my levels were good and I felt awesome....Hang in there, this is the worst part. I was so very depressed during the RAI isolation time...couldn't hug my kids for 2 weeks and then couldn't hold them for any real length of time for a week after that. The hardest part, I think, of any disease is the loss of control.
996946 tn?1503249112 I let my Internal Med Dr. talk me into switching from Synthroid....had no problems or side effects...thinking maybe I should have asked for .050mcg on the Synthroid instead. I can't afford to deal with ANY side effects. I just had a second ablation in May for heart arrhythmias. I had taken myself down a notch on the Synthroid a year ago because I was having increased a-fib/tachycardia and blamed it on the dose. Just really don't want any arrhythmia episodes.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me on 100mcg of Synthroid just recently. In fact I started it on September 6th. Before that I was at 50mcg. I was wondering if anyone had ever experienced dizziness before after a week of being on a medicine increase. It is the first time this has ever happened, though occasionally I get dizzy on the first few days of my menstrual cycle- but that is supposed to be related to my dysmenoria (don't think I spelled that right), which appeared when I started taking synthroid.
Avatar f tn So my kids will stay with friends if he comes earlier.. Did any of you with older kids pack overnight bags for them in advance or just wing it when/if it became necessary?
