Synthroid dosage and weight

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid dosage and weight

synthroid

Avatar f tn PS: You pretty much need the TSH, T3 and T4 values ... you can still get copies from your Dr. My doc let's me tweek the dosage around and then we settle in together on the dosing .. I'm currently on 62.5mcgs. I've always thought the baseline starting # was based on weight right after surgery and then it's tweeked along by symptoms and target TSH #'s . The constipation can be from hypo symptoms even though your TSH they say is normal ..
Avatar n tn Dosage in my opinion is not based on weight. I am 200mcg and only weigh 100 lbs. After my TT, I was started on 125mcg & then I only weighed 88 lbs. Can you find another Endo who will go by symptoms as well as lab tests?
Avatar n tn I had my thyroid removed on october 24th and have been on synthroid 75 mcg since. i have been having cramps in my calves like charlie horse pain for the past week . Does this mean that i may need a higher dose of synthroid. I just went and had my first lab work done since my surgery this past week. I have noticed that I have gained some weight since the surgery.
Avatar n tn 8. Endo dropped my dosage to 125mcg. Improved slightly over the next two months and even stopped losing weight. Then in January of this year went to ER with same symptoms (wildly fluctuating high BP, sinus tachycardia, and anxiety/palps). Cardiologist put me on Beta B because my rapid HR and high blood pressure 140+/90+ was now sustained. - Even did MRI and CT scan. All negative. TSH from that ER visit was 0.4. Endo back me off my synthroid down to 100mcg.
Avatar n tn Tired, hair is really thinning and very dry and brittle, dry skin, cold all the time, forgetfulness, and weight gain even though I exercise and watch my diet every day. I read online that when a patient is on Synthroid the TSH goal is to be between 0.3-3.0. Is this the target that most physicians try to keep their patients at? I am confused as I am having problems but she does not want to increase my Synthroid. Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 100mcg for years but now my doctor is changing my dosage to 88mcg. My tsh is .0005 and my t4 free is 7.56. Would those levels have caused hair thinning all over my body and hair texture change? My weight has pretty much stayed the same. I'm worried that the lowering of my synthroid will cause hairloss as my hair has just seemed to stablize recently. my doc thinks I have telogen effulvium due to stress in addition to the change in my thyroid.
Avatar f tn Could I get some help with my results and dosage of Synthroid? (I had Graves in 1993 and missed to check my blood months ago so I went into the hypo zone with TSH =52 in May). here my current situation: 8/4/2010 - TSH = 4.62 (I was recommended .125 Synthroid) 8/30/2010 TSH = 0.33 (moved to .112 mg Synthroid) 9/14/2010 TSH = 0.358 (moved to .100 mg Synthroid) Does it seem ok to you to land me in the right range?
Avatar n tn I have been on synthyroid for about eight months and I still haven't got the right dosage. My doctor started me out on 100 and then went to 112. Now I'm on synthroid 100 x4 days a week and synthroid 112 x3 days a week and I am still gaining weight no matter what i do. I watch what I eat but still my doctor says well, women gain weight as they get older. I don't know if you will lose weight when you get to normal levels, but I gained the most of my weight when I was in hyper mode.
Avatar n tn The best you can hope for is a doctor that will listen to your symptoms, and test and adjust your free T3 and free T4 levels as required to keep you in the euthyroid state, which basically means free of either hypo or hyper symptoms. Depending on the underlying cause for being hypo, some people require more free T3 and free T4 than others. P.S. Trying to adjust meds by testing for TSH doesn't work. TSH does not correlate well at all with hypo t symptoms.
Avatar n tn WHAT? You were dx'd with TSH of 41, given 112 mcg of Levoxyl, patted on the head like a good little hypothyorid girl and sent upon your merry way??? With no further appointments scheduled??? What is our healthcare system coming to? Yes, 41 is high, and yes, of course you should have a follow up appointment scheduled. 4-6 weeks to see if that dosage is correct for you. It may be too high and you could go hyper, again.
Avatar n tn 2/ Is it common to GAIN weight while taking Synthroid? If so, how hard to go back to normal weight and after how long? 3/ Is it more difficult to get pregnant while on Synthroid? 4/ Is it a given that once someone start taking Synthroid (or any other thyroid med for hypo), it's for life? 5/ should i have my baby tested for thyroid problems? Would love to read your experiences and feedback. thanks! hyponofun :( This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
1504101 tn?1299155264 Your body will take the T4 from the Synthroid and convert it to T3. If your body does this correctly and efficiently then you won't need any T3 added. But make sure you have your Free T3 levels tested whenever you have bloodwork to make sure you are converting correctly. I had a TT 4 years ago and was on just Synthroid for 3 years before needing to add a small amount of T3.
Avatar m tn My wife was diagnised as hypothyroid several years ago, although she had no antibodies. She started taking 75 MCG of Synthroid, and has been taking it ever since. Despite irregular periods, she was able to get pregnant and he had a healthy baby (she continued the synthroid thruogh pregnancy and her levels were normal). However, 14 months after the baby was born she is exhibiting many sympoms of HYPERthyroidism -- sleeplessness, weight loss, and significant anxiety.
Avatar f tn I was put on 150 mcg of Synthroid for over a year and recently received a call from my doctor saying my levels were low and prescribed me 125 mcg of Synthroid. I don't understand why he did that. Isn't 150 mcg a higher dosage than 125 mcg?
Avatar f tn Oh my that is a small dosage to start at when you were at 100mcg of synthroid. I was on 75 mcg and was put on starting dosage of 60mg of armour. No wonder you are having muscle twinges. You should definately be increasing every 2 weeks so you don't suffer hypo symptoms. See our armour thread we have going where a bunch of us are!
Avatar n tn I think its interesting that you are on synthroid if you are hyper. Usually when someone is hyper they give them a type of tapozale to decrease the amount of hormones you thyroid is giving off. I am hyperactive and I am not on synthroid. They are removing my thyroid so then I will be on synthroid!
Avatar f tn She switched me from Levo to Synthroid. She was sure that Synthroid would work much better and that the dosage could be much lower. We switched to 175 of Synthroid and she asked me to keep an eye out for symptoms of hyper as that dosage should be more than enough for full replacement at my weight if there were no absorption issues. On that dosage of Synthroid: TSH 23.50 m[IU]/L 0.36 - 3.74 m[IU]/L THYROXINE FREE 0.86 ng/dL 0.76 - 1.46 ng/dL She upped the Synthroid to 200 +5 MCGs Cytomel.
Avatar f tn I was diagnoxed with Graves disease in 2005. I had a thyroid ablation in November of 05 and began to feel better quickly with the help of a beta-blocker. AFter 6 mos. I was taken off the beta-blocker because my TSH levels were where I could be medicated with an artificial thyroid medication. I was given Synthroid but I don't remember the dosage. My dosage was changed probably 3 times over the next year, and each time I gained probably 15 or 20 pounds.
Avatar f tn I think it's fairly common to add Synthroid to Armour. T3 seems to lower T4. I take both Synthroid and Cytomel. Before I started the Cytomel my T4 levels were at the top of the range. Now it's around mid-level. If you are having symptoms I don't think you necessarily need to lower your Armour dosage before adding Synthroid. Your doc is correct in mostly ignoring TSH at this point. T3 will drive TSH into the ground. Best to go by symptoms & frees.
Avatar m tn So many people say they've gained weight on Synthroid but has anyone lost weight after getting OFF Synthroid? I've gained a ton of weight on Synthroid but I tried Nature-Throid and that didnt work at all so Im kind of stuck with it but wonder if I should keep trying to find something else. If it's any different weight-wise on other meds..
Avatar n tn Since then I have had various bouts of feeling tired, strong heart beat surges, and weight gain and bloating. I went to Africa, ate little and came back after 3 weeks having gained 5 pounds! As an avid traveller and daily weigh-in person, I know myself to know that all of this is abnormal. I recently became unemployed and have no health insurance. I want to start taking myself off synthroid until I can get back to the doctor because I felt better without it and certainly looked better.
Avatar f tn If your free t4 is high in normal range, yet your t3 is very low, then you probably have problems with converting. The problem is, many Synthroid prescribing doctors (endos.) usually never check it and just assume you're converting the t4 into enough t3 on your own. Also, your TSH is still a little elivated, even though it is in range. Many people feel better when this is slightly lower-say arond 2.0 or even lower. These ranges are very broad, so it matters where you fall within them.
Avatar n tn On 2/27 my blood results said TSH - 138.7 T4 - 0.51 T3 - 71 The Dr called and said to take synthroid 135mcg. To date, I have had nothing change. Still feels like there is a rope around my neck, can't lose a pound even if I don't eat, yes I go to the gym and do yoga, walk the dog, watch what I eat and I don't eat much at all. Legs and ankles swell. The voice sounds like Rod Stewart at times. Is this normal, am I expecting too much too fast.
