Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid benefits

synthroid

Avatar n tn Are there any benefits to .100 mcg of Synthroid daily versus .112 mcg six days per week? I have the option of either. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I have been on Thyrolar all of those 36 years except for a short test period when I was put on synthroid. During the time on synthroid I had mood swings, a general ill feeling. Just didn't feel like myself. Today I tried to refill my prescription and found that Thyrolar is not available and I am unsure if it will ever be available. I have an appointment to see my internist on Monday and would like to go armed with good information. My pharmacist recommended Synthroid with Cytomel.
14 tn?1256158725 Over the summer, I switched from Synthroid to Natural Desiccated Thyroid. I know with Synthroid, I was not allowed to take cold medications. Is the same true for the Natural Desiccated Thyroid? I can usually find the answer online but I have not found this one. Thank You!
Avatar n tn If I do not appear to have subclinical hypothyroidism due to normal TSH, do I have any benefits in taking the Synthroid now or may I delay it?
Avatar n tn I recently had my thyroid removed 08/14/09 and am taking 125mcg of synthroid. My doctor told me I should lose some weight, but I have done nothing but gain since my surgery. Any advice or suggestions would be great.
907968 tn?1292622204 January 1 I switched from Synthroid to Levothroxin. Almost immediately I felt the difference! I was still better than normal but needed to be even better such as whenI was on Synthroid. Lucily I still had a few pills left and wanted to see the difference again. Yesterday morning I started on the remaining Synthroid and today I felt great again!! So, was there/ is there any difference between the two? Both are the same dose...
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have hypothyroid and extreme insomnia? I just started on synthroid 3 weeks ago and my sleep seems to have gotten worse, not better.
Avatar f tn I've read that one should not be prescribed Metropolol (bp med) if they have a thyroid condition, but yet my doctor does. Said that the benefits outweigh the risks. What?
Avatar n tn I am looking for information I can show my doctor about the benefits of adding t3 to my synthroid. I am still suffering from fatigue and irritability on t4 alone.
1534656 tn?1296085070 Also, will help the properties of the generic synthroid meds to get my body fuction correctly?? This discussion is related to What does everyone think about Synthroid?.
1205917 tn?1265745553 I was born without a thyroid, and my whole life have been taking different T4 synthroid medications (currently I am taking 275 mcg's of Levoxyl daily). I have read a number of conflicting studies and reports concerning the benefits of T4/T3 combination, as well as reports describing the benefits of cytomel. I also have had a personal report of a person with hypothyroid who used the T3 drug Cytomel in combination with Synthroid.
Avatar n tn said if I go on the trip, he will have to start me on Synthroid instead of Cytomel (T3) if I wait to do the RAI until I come back. Should I cancel my trip and do the T3 which I understand is a temporary treatment for thyroid cancer patients who are preparing for radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy. Any advice? What are the benefits of doing the T3 vs. the Synthroid?
Avatar f tn ve heard about the benefits of iodine/iodide. What should I do next? I am so confused. I have been on synthroid since 2001 and really don't know which supplements go well with it and which medicines and/or supplements I should stay away from.
Avatar f tn ve already applied for medicaid cash assistance and food card but my sister was telling me i should do some research because given my situation i should qualify for more benefits like free diapers and what not.
Avatar f tn it does take about two weeks after starting Synthroid for you to start feeling the benefits from it...because it takes the body that long to break it down, store it and then start using it efficiently. Whatever is causing this for you...I hope soon passes!
525721 tn?1212451525 Following the surgery, I was perscribed 200 mcg. of Synthroid and radioactive iodine. I consistantly gained weight until I moved to another state in 2006 and had a doctor that switched me to Armour thyroid. I had great results for 2 years losing nearly 40 pounds and feeling like myself again. I moved back to the original state and went for cancer screening and labs. My levels were normal, yet he said he liked the consistant results of synthetic. He advised me to go back on Synthroid 200.
Avatar n tn What are my alternatives to synthroid that may give me relief, but not trigger an allergic reaction like synthroid did? If my levels are bouncing back and forth, what can I do about treatment?
Avatar f tn Also wanted to ask, at what stage does the doc introduce synthroid? Do they usually wait to see if it corrects itself? My hep clinic faxed the results to my gp., I have an appt for Dec.
Avatar n tn She said she would give me either Synthroid/cytomel combo or Nature-Throid and recommeded starting with Nature-Throid. I take 125 mcg synthroid now and she wants to start me on one grain, which she said is low, and check my temp every morning and tweak as needed. She also said Hashitmotos is like a roller coaster and I may need varying doses to take when I vary up and down.
1518372 tn?1291011648 every Dr I talk to say no take the synthroid.. I mean wtf.. I already take a low does of cytomel of 5 mcg of cytomel BC I have t4 resistance so y not just straight t3?
Avatar f tn Lowe and you will find that not only does he believe but many treating T3/T4 Intergrative medical doctors feel that Armour or Naturethroid have benefits over Synthroid only. If sounds as through you went to a site that had a Q and A observation more than medical definations. Many T3 theories of prescribing these meds are based on older - more consistant history research of these meds since they were the only things offered prior to Synthroid becoming available later I do think Dr.
Avatar n tn PRECAUTIONS: Before taking levothyroxine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: overactive thyroid conditions (e.g., thyrotoxicosis), a heart attack (acute myocardial infarction), adrenal gland problems (e.g., uncorrected adrenal insufficiency).
Avatar n tn After I saw and endocronologist he switched me to brand name Synthroid and increased my dose. I had nervous symptoms and headaches for the first week but they are diminishing. It might help to try name brand. Are you having any other symptoms? Did they run any other tests free T3, Free T4 and antibodies?
509437 tn?1210909765 But then my TSH started to drop and I was going hypo and thus my doctor started me on Synthroid. That very first week of taking it I started with being dizzy. I questioned my doctor, my surgeon, my pharmacist. Everyone told me that there is no way Synthroid would make me dizzy until I met a customer at my pharmacy who had the same thing happen to her. So now for 5 months since my surgery I am dizzy to the point of almost falling over if I turn me head too quick.
