Synthroid and weight loss medication

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and weight loss medication

synthroid

Avatar n tn synthroid will not cause hot flashes hair loss or weight gain. the synthroid will keep these from happeneing. you need to be on synthroid or maybe perhaps armour. I am doing qui te well on the synthroid.
Avatar f tn In 1996, my doctor said that the tests were more refined and I was taking too much synthroid. It was lowered to 0,112mg. I started gaining weight immediately, losing hair and could not focus at all. It was raised to 0.125mg and has remained at that dose even though my tsh is a little suppressed. I still can not lose weight even though I diet and exercise, feel mostly kind of run down all of the time, dry eyes, just never feel great.
Avatar n tn So when I am underactive and just started medication and didn't have problems before with periods that is still normal...ok.
Avatar n tn Your levels being stable can affect your weight loss (if you have any). I found I didnt start to lose weight until my levels were stable. Any amount of exercise I did ...did absolutely ZILCH. Except make me more tired than I already was. In time when levels stabalise...so too does the weight. But dont forget that the weight BEFORE treatment is HYPER/HYPO weight and if you was Hyper...then you may not get back to that weight. I gained 16kgs (hyper) and weighed 71kgs....I now weight 65kgs.
Avatar n tn I am 42 yrs old and my medications include Toprol, Simvistatin, and now recently added both Loestra and Synthroid 25 mg. for an enlarged thyroid. Since starting the BC and SYnthroid, I have gained about 10 lbs. I know that some of it is inactivity in the winter, but I don't normally gain like this. I started the Synthroid in November, and feel MUCH better.
Avatar m tn Do you guys have any explanation for the weight loss and reduction in testosterone levels? The loss in testosterone and weight is very large given the time span. What are some suggestions? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Avatar f tn Hi Kim, If your levels are truly where they should be, you should not be gaining weight if you are eating correctly. Diet is the biggest factor in weight loss, and exercise helps out a lot too. I'm reading a great book by Jillian Michaels - Master Your Metabolism. I haven't completed it yet, but it seems good so far. Also, there's another book I've read which was very informative and helpful. It's named The Thyroid Diet by Mary J Shomon.
474314 tn?1219345522 I am having my thyroid out (TT) soon. Has anyone who has had this procedure lost weight after the surgery and synthroid medication or am I in for more weight gain? Sheri Should I schedule Lap Band Surgery at the same time as my TT?
Avatar m tn Yep, I read it all. Things often don't look so long until it gets posted in one place -- I realize that when I get "long winded" sometimes.........lol I've done a bit of studying on Ayurvedic medicine and have come across ashwagandha a lot, but have never seen it related to thyroid function. I've mostly seen it in relation to adrenal support and for weight loss - I can vouch that it doesn't help with weight loss.
Avatar n tn Come to find out Metformin and Lipitor side effects are diahrrea and due to that you will lose some weight. Both medication targets weight loss my Doctor says, no need to be alarmed. It's safe.
Avatar n tn She was then diagnosed with PCOS and is now also on 50mg sprinolactone and 1500mg of metformin. Weight loss is finally possible...has loss 13 lbs in about 2 months. Don't give up!!!!
Avatar m tn So many people say they've gained weight on Synthroid but has anyone lost weight after getting OFF Synthroid? I've gained a ton of weight on Synthroid but I tried Nature-Throid and that didnt work at all so Im kind of stuck with it but wonder if I should keep trying to find something else. If it's any different weight-wise on other meds..

Avatar f tn my thyroid levels are normal now and then taking synthroid causing weight loss and once i stop the medication i will no longer lose weight? One more question: Will i get back to my normal weight once the thyroid levels are normal without medcation?
Avatar n tn Symptoms of overmedication could include inability to sleep, rapid weight loss, diarrhea, rapid weight loss, feeling overheated.
Avatar m tn If your doctor is well versed in thyroid treatment, s/he will start you out on a low dose for several weeks, then retest and adjust medication based on symptoms and test results. Do make sure you ask for the Free T3 and Free T4 tests EVERY time you test. It takes approximately 4-6 weeks for the medication to reach full potential in your body, but you might start to see small improvements before that.
9595194 tn?1404749116 Untreated hyperthyroidism causes the weight loss, diarrhea, irritability and hand tremors, rapid heart rate and palpitations. Left untreated, it can cause thyroid storm, which can be life threatening, as well as irreversible heart damage. Hypothyroidism causes the weight gain, constipation, cold intolerance, slow heart rate, depression and left untreated, can cause myxedema coma which is a life threatening condition and requires emergency treatment.

Avatar n tn Add to the symptoms gimel mentioned: rapid weight loss, diarrhea, depression and/or mania
Avatar n tn You really need to know why the doctor has prescribed those dosage levels. What blood tests were run and what were the actual results? The most important test, in my opinion is free T3, followed by free T4 and then maybe TSH.
Avatar f tn Secondly, it is possible now that you have lost the weight you may an adjustment to your medication. The pituitary gland produces the TSH and now you have a lower body mass index it may have altered that level. There is a formula that is used to work out dosages. I can not recall the link to that at the moment. But it goes something like, 2 mcgs for every 2 kilos body weight or something!!!!
Avatar f tn With your Hashi's and hypothyroidism, are you currently on medication? If so what brand and dosage? What other hypo symptoms do you have? Also, please post whatever thyroid test results you have, along with reference ranges. Sorry to answer your question with many questions in return, but need this info to try and give you meaningful info.
Avatar f tn Would like to know if Evening Primrose Oil has helped anyone who is losing their hair....and what dosage was used. Also, is it the thyroid condition that causes the hair loss or the Synthroid. \ I have had Hypothyroid for over 2 years...was not given medication until 8 months after all my symptoms and went steadily downhill feeling like someone 80 when I was a healthy, active 60 year old....had all the symptoms, weight gain, lack of interest in life, major brain fog etc etc....
Avatar f tn I am using 1/2 synthroid and the cytomel and my skin and hair seem better again. Thankyou for your answer.
1495281 tn?1305307348 But to know you are trying to do everything you can and not only NOT lose any weight, but then to gain more. Then I would get frustrated and mad and just start pigging out. If I'm going to gain weight...may as well enjoy it right? But that just got me in more trouble as now I seem to be glucose intolerant. Can't win for losing some time. But just know this. Getting the thyroid to work right for you again takes time. It takes trial and error.
