Synthroid and vitamin supplements

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and vitamin supplements

synthroid

Avatar n tn I have told her many times that I do not take Vitamin D supplements because Vitamin D supplements always lower my FT3 and FT4 levels. Yet, she is recommending that I take 800 IU of Vitamin D per day. When the endo made these comments, the Selenium and Vitamin E results had not yet come in. I told the endo that I would wait for those results to come in, and that the endo and I could then discuss the results of her tests and the Selenium and Vitamin E tests.
Avatar m tn ve been taking synthroid for the last six months since being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I take synthroid in the morning and some vitamin supplements before I go to sleep. I started the vitamin supplements a month ago and have noticed some of my thyroid symptoms coming back (i.e., major sleep problems, loss of hair.....) Could the synthroid and supplements interact with each other somehow even though I take them 8-10 hours apart from each other?
Avatar f tn Feeling like I am solving a puzzle! How should I take an iron supplement and vitamin D if I am currently on Synthroid at 5 AM and Cytomel I just take once a day later in the morning? Can vitamin d and iron be taken together 6 hours after cytomel? Also anyone try hemeplex? It is sustained release. I have heard good things about this product. But I am worried that it is sustained-release and will affect my meds. Any ideas on what kind of iron to take. I find that they are very constipating.
Avatar f tn 5mg of Synthroid daily, is it safe for me to take the supplements and reduce the Synthroid as l am trying to find away of reducing the effects of taking these drugs, not only can l not lose weight l also keep getting really painful mouth and tongue ulcers which research has suggested can be a side effect of thyroid problems.
Avatar m tn I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism, and I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I have tried several times to take calcium supplements within the guidelines when taking Synthroid, (more than 4 hours before or after taking med), and I become almost immediately exhausted, and sleep for 8-12 hours. I take only about 250 mgs of calcium, and vitamin D as well.
Avatar m tn s also recommended that you not take most vitamin/mineral supplements within 4 hours of taking synthroid (levothyroxine). I did a quick search for drug interaction and came up with the possibility that synthroid may inhibit the absorption of metformin, thereby causing hyperglycemia or glucose intolerance. You might want to talk with your doctor about separating the 2 medications for a few hours.
Avatar n tn My Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol) is below normal, and my Vitamin E (Gamma Tocopherol) is just barely normal. It appears that I may need Vitamin E supplements. However, there are some problems with Vitamin E supplements. 1) A person who has a below-normal platelet count (as I have had for the last 10 years), is prone to bleeding.
Avatar n tn Do I now stop taking the vitamin D now that my levels are normal and 2. Do I definitely need an increase in Synthroid now. So confused. I can also email Dr. Lupo tomorrow, if need be.
557907 tn?1215882569 Other meds and vitamin/minerals/supplements, particularly calcium and magnesium, should be separated from thyroid meds by about 4 hours, but I know that doesn't fit everyone's schedule. I take my Tirosint (T4), first, then an hour or so later, my T3 med and diuretic. That's between 6 am and 7 am. About mid morning, I take my probiotic, vitamin D, then about noon, I have another dose of T3 med. I take calcium, magnesium, selenium, etc before bed.
Avatar f tn It's not the thyroxine that causes the constipation, it's being hypothyroid. I struggled with constipation of and on for years (I believe I went back and forth between hyper and hypo); and now that I've got my thyroid levels close to where I need them, I find that I no longer have to have the "daily help" using the bathroom. I also take a daily enzyme which helps break down food better. Are you taking vitamin B12 shots for your pernicious anemia?
487969 tn?1249313291 To Stalla5349 suggestion I would add Zinc, vitamin D, Vitamin E, Amino acids and iodine to help support a thyriod problem. It is also suggested that minerals are more important in driving the thyriod than vitamins especially Selenium and Zinc.
Avatar n tn Without effecting my present meds? I know B complex and Vit C, but how much on a daily basis? I did find some Vitamin Bs but they have citrus bioflavoinoids in them and don't know if that conteracts with synthroid?? Any ideas? Thanks a Bunch??
Avatar n tn 2) The FT4, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin D levels came back to what they had been before I had taken Vitamin D supplements. However, the FT3 continued going down (from 3.2 to 3.0). Also, the endo pronounced my Calcium level as normal. However, over the last 10 years, my Calcium level has decreased significantly. Here are my Calcium results over the last 10 years: July 2009 (when I was first diagnosed with autoimmune hypothyroidism): Calcium = 9.6 (normal range = 8.5 - 10.
Avatar f tn I was wondering what vitamins, minerals and diet are safe and effective for possibly helping with hypothyroid? I know the Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C and possibly selenium... How do i know if i need the selenium? I"m trying to get a "cocktail" of vitamins, as well as a healthy diet and excercise in an effort to counteract some of my symptoms and boost my energy levels etc.. Any help with this would be great..
Avatar n tn 2 pg/mL) VIT D, 25-HYDROXY = 8 (normal range = 32 - 100 ng/mL) In the past, whenever I have taken Vitamin D supplements, my FT4 and FT3 levels went down significantly, and my hypothyroidism symptoms got worse. So, I don't take Vitamin D supplements, and the low Vitamin D value was not unexpected. After these tests, my Synthroid dosages remained the same. In early June 2014, I had some blood tests (ordered by my endo), and the results were the following: TSH = 0.
393419 tn?1228447393 D) TOGETHER with Magnesium or if they should be spread apart? Thank you p.s. I know that they need to be 4 hours on either side of synthroid I was just wondering about each other.
Avatar n tn Yes. You can take multi-vitamins. Armour thyroid has been around a long time and many physicians consider it superior to synthroid. As to "what brand of vitamin is best" that is a "how many angels are on the head of a pin" question. Purchasing vitamins in a store specializing in supplements, rather than an ordinary drugstore, will give you a better product selection.
219609 tn?1210348114 I had thought as so,,Plus my endo told me to take 800 a day on vit D but I take 1000, I take all my meds like multi vitamins at noon and D before sleep,,I take my synthroid at 6am and go back to sleep,Most of the time I always get eight solid hours of sleep but my internal clock wakes me to take meds, plus there are still lots of times I wake first thing nervous, so my zanax is in order, I was at 175mcg for a while but am slowly going back down to 137mcg because my numbers are to high in the fre
Avatar n tn I heard that Vitamin B-12, B6 and Vitamin D is really good for Thyroid dysfunction. I am taking synthroid medication, Do any of those vitamins have any interactions with they medication, and if not, when is a good time to take them.
Avatar f tn I have hyprothyroid and low vitamin D and I take levothyroxine 100mg, vitamin d 50,000 icu, and he still told me to continue the oscal and I have gained 30 pounds in the last 3yrs and my stomach is bloated one day and gone the next. I am always extremely tired, I have to force myself out of bed every morning. Is there anything my doctor maybe missing. My hands swell and look puffy sometimes, but I do not have high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn So I think at least I should take extra mineral complex supplement to prevent the mineral excetion even the Vitamin A and E levels are still unknown (Vitamin D has been tested, and Vitamin Bs and C are water soluble, extra of which can not be harmful)
Avatar n tn I compete in figure bodybuilding and reqularly take creatine, glutamine, whey protein powder, and BCAAs. What effect will synthroid meds have on these supplements and should I continue using them?
Avatar m tn I have, right after starting the medications, although that is when the good people here advised me to start taking Vitamin D (1,000 min to 2,000 Units per day) and Magnesium 400mg per day and it helps to take Vitamin B Complex to help cope with the Stress. After starting, I had an amazing improvement in only one week, the muscle cramps and spasms, including a painfull stiff neck were gone, now I get an ache once in a while but nothing compared to what I had before.
460348 tn?1213452322 On my lab report it says that Vitamin D 32-100 was considered within normal range with the lower level of 50-60 being normal. Mine was 13 and considered extremely low and I'm on mega dose prescription Vitamin D now and I feel so much better.
