Synthroid and omeprazole

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and omeprazole

synthroid

Stopped medicine and problems disappeared. Started Omeprazole again and the problems came back. I had tried the others, like Prilosec, and they caused me even more problems, and right away too. I have diverticulitis and get headaches when I eat things like peanuts, etc. Am allergic to penicillin(hospitalized for reaction), some anti-biotics and some anti-inflammatory drugs. Develop aches, rashes, etc. Eg: Aleve makes my lips break out in blisters. Ibuprofen hurts my stomach bad.
Hello All, Does anybody know how many hours should be between Synthroid and Omeprazole so there is no impact to Syngthroid's effectiveness?
) I also don't take omeprazole for acid reflux for at least four hours after taking the levo. I don't know why my RNP put me on both upon initial diagnosis. She explained about T4 converting to T3; she mentioned several studies about taking both. My thyroid levels have been "borderline" like that for at least 10 years, but this health care professional is the first to actually treat me for hypo. I do know that she was spot on, at least for the first week.
200 MCG QD Coumadin 5 mg QD Omeprazole: QD Neurontin: 2 QHS (RLS) Thanks again.
The only medication that I am on just now is Amitriptyline 25mg for nerve pain, which is supposed to make me sleep, Omeprazole 40mg, for my stomach acid, and Ibuprofen and paracetamol. The doctor had me on Diclofenac 50mg but they made me so constipated and the surgeon in the hospital told me to stop taking the diclofenac and start taking 75mg of aspirin per day instead. I am confused and need help.
Also, my doctor has prescribed me an antacid, 20 mg Omeprazole, for the metal taste and cramps. This medication is used to prevent acid buildup in the stomach. This was prescribed to control the metal taste. I have been using this medication for 3 days and it has definitely helped. I hope this helps some of you, please report back!
I take Omeprazole for acid reflux/hiatal hernia, and I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism. I also take Zetia every other day for cholesterol. All of these are working well, but I hope they are not the cause of my Gastroparesis. I don't want to take anymore medications, especially the ones that are given for Gastroparesis. Since I don't have the usual symptoms, do I really need medication for it?
My other medications are Synthroid 25mcg, Xanax 1 mg 2-3 times per day, and Omeprazole 20mg. I also take acidophilous pearls to help with my digestive tract. I've gone through a lot for being 23 in my opinion and I'm just hoping that sometime soon these issues would go away. Anyway! I graduated college in December 2008 with my degree in Criminal Justice. I currently work as a bank teller part time (20-25 hours a week), I've been there for 2 years.
Omeprazole is for acid reflux - it shouldn't have any effect on your TSH, and you shouldn't have any side effects from stopping it, other than possibly more acid reflux. I took Aciphex for many years, then switched to omeprazole, when insurance refused to pay for Aciphex...... had to go to the 40 mg caps for some time. Once my thyroid levels began to come in line, I stopped the omeprazole.......
Note, in January I went on omeprazole 40 mg twice a day for LPR. My son had passed away in January, and I was told that symptoms most likely related to stress. I went to endocrinologist in August who suggested that I change how I take my synthroid (I’d always taken with food). The headaches and eye pain pretty much went away after two weeks. I still have tiredness, random all over body itching & eye swelling.
Synthroid, Omeprazole (stomach), Vicodin (PRN - used maybe 3 times a week), Vivelle Dot (hormones) and now Amitriptyline 100mgs (depression/pain tx). Height: 5' 5" Weight: 243 (Yikes) and of course 02 @ 2L. Thanks for advice or direction.
Then I wondered if I had bed bugs or scabies (I'm a nurse in a busy ER), or an allergy to my detergent, so I changed to All Free and Clear Detergent/Fabric Softener and washed all my bedding and clothes in hot water and dried them in the dryer on high. Also got a mattress cover, and pillows and pillow covers. But the rash is getting worse.
Also, I am on levothyroxin with instructions to take on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. I also take omeprazole and vitamins. Can I take them all together? Or do I have to wait 45 minutes after the thyroid med to take the omeprazole and then another 30 minutes to take vitamins? Any help out there would be helpful.

I take omeprazole 20mg and have been taking it for over two years, I still get the bloating and stomach pain, and also pain just beneath the bottom of lef rib cage, about 4-5 inches from center, and I know it is caused by bloating, or excess air, because when it happens, it is about two hours or so after dinner or if I drink a lot of water. It seems to help if I eat small servings throughout the day, rather than a large dinner, eating breakfast or a light lunch does not trigger it, only dinner.
I also have hypothyroidism (hashimotos). I take synthroid 100mg since 1995, and hazaar and b12 2000 mg sublingual, b9, and biotin for the last year. I went to a dentist and a salivary gland specialist and they don't think it's a big deal! Because they say dry mouth is worse, but i have the opposite of that. The ent prescribed rubinol to dry up the saliva which I haven't taken yet. I have even thought about making my front 6 teeth longer to keep from spitting on people when I talk!
few days back i went to a physician for my physicals and he detected thyroid and prescribed Synthroid to continue for a month. Also he prescribed me omeprazole for a throat problem( feel like something struck in my throat similar to sore throat) i been having for a month. ever since i started having levothyroxine and omeprazole the dental problem started. Please advice me if this is one of the side effects of this medicine or any other problem? Many thanks Srikanth.
I am fearful of taking Simethicone (Gas-x) which seems to work for me, or Protonix which doc prescribed because I've heard they change the acidity in your stomach and inhibit the absorption of the synthroid. Can anybody shed some light? Also, no stupid weight loss and I've really been exercising faithfully every single day- mod-fast walking uphill on a treadmill for 90 minutes EVERY DAY. I've lost 6 lbs. approx but no more!! HELP ME PLEASE!! When do things get better??
* Halcion, Versed, Valium, Xanax and quazepam * Norvir * Zoloft and Lustral * Statins such as Lipitor, Mevacor, Zocor, Simlup, Simcor, Simvacor, with the exception of Pravachol. Lescol and Crestor which are unaffected by grapefruit.
So here I sit - jobless and no answers as to what is wrong with me. I went off the Synthroid to see if there was any change and there hasn't been as far as I can tell. If anyone has any suggestions - comments - concerns I would sure appreciate hearing from you. Until Dec 08 I was very active. I'm a social worker and work w/the more @ risk kids helping them re-write their stories. It was awesome.
I've also noticed that when people are talking to me, especially with background noise, it's very hard to understand what they are saying to me unless I am standing right near them and watching their lips move.. I do have mild hypothyroidism, and take 50mcg of synthroid daily. My last tsh was 2.96. I also take omeprazole and baclofen (low dose) for GERD. I am not on any diuretics, nor do I take aspirin (ototoxic drugs). I do like to drink soda/caffeine, but not a crazy amount each day...
It helped me more than what the doctors gave me. I was on omeprazole, tagamnet, sucralfate. I got off all of that and only drink my tea. I now can eat salmon, potatoes, bananas and oatmeal smoothies with my vitamins. Lost 30 lbs with my diet change. My thyroid was fluctuating for a year. In March I passed a kidney stone. It's been a roller coaster of illness. My gastritis is a little better, and I am back on thyroid pills. 75mc.

These are often prescribed for runners, sports injuries to joints, and those suffering from arthritis. Syva labs has recently reworked its Cannabinoid test and claims to have eliminated this problem. But a Science magazine article (July 8, 1988) lists Ibuprofen as cross reactive. Under the new government guidelines THC testing levels will be reduced to 50 nanograms. Many more THC false positives can be expected in 1994. Dristan Nasal Spray, Neosynephren, Vicks Nasal Spray, Sudafed, etc.

Hey yeah I know it doesnt make any sense, I am a nursing student right now and I understand the importance of taking thyroid medication on a regular basis, but once I had that panic attack all of a sudden the doctors told me to just relax and not take anything for a week.
is that normal for it to be sitting in my digestive tract for 6 days? I currently take Synthroid 25mcg, Omeprazole 20mg, and Xanax 1mg 2-3 times per day, as well as over the counter acidophilis pearls. My doctor just started me on Questran when I went to see her on Thursday. She put me on this because of my gallbladder being gone, she thinks there is too much bile flowing in my system and that this should stop it. She put me on this because I have tried everything else and this is a last resort.
About a month after being diagnosed with underactive thyroid, I had eating just a tiny bit of plain corn, and the next day I threw up about 10 times and couldn't stop. I knew it wasn't a virus because after throwing up I was fine. However I did try eating popcorn a couple months ago thinking that it would be fine, but the next morning, sure enough, I ended up throwing it up. Needless to say, I do not eat corn anymore.
Her only suggestions were to do more weight training (to build muscle mass) and to switch from Armour to Synthroid (which she, incidentally, forgot to do, after suggesting it.). I returned to see her in April, and she did more lab work on my thyroid levels and some hormones, after noting that I had a 4 lb. weight gain (with no change in lifestyle) in 3 months. She called me a couple of weeks later and informed me that I have now swung back in the other direction (HYPO again).
The only diagnosed conditions I have are hypothyroidism, superventricular tachycardia, and IBS. The thyroid issues are mild. I take the lowest dose of Synthroid. The tachycardia is something I guess I just have to live with, and I only have major episodes about once a year.
