Synthroid and neuropathy

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and neuropathy

synthroid

Avatar f tn I had a tt on 8/1 for thyca and RAI on 9/30. I've been on 112 synthroid for 7 days and 75 cytomel (25/three times day) for 7 days. Yesterday I started getting really strange sensations in my legs. Its just an aching that won't stop. I think it is nerve related. It is in both legs and moves around. Seems like it might be restless leg-type symptoms. The longer I am still, the more the discomfort builds until I just have to move around. Any idea what might be causing this?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Hashimotos a year ago and have been gradually upping my dose of Synthroid since then because I have angina and can't take a big dose yet. I have started to get Neuropathy in my feet and my heels burn also. Is this Thyroid related? My doctor says yes, but I wanted to check with this forum and see if anyone has that with their Thyroid condition. I also have red and burning knees and feet. Does anyone else have this?
Avatar m tn Have you had Vitamin B12 levels tested? B12 deficiency can cause horrible neuropathy. I have Pernicious Anemia (autoimmune) that went undiagnosed/untreated for many years and have permanent nerve damage in my feet/fingers. Sometimes the bottoms of my feet feel like they are on fire, they tingle and are numb at the same time. The pain can get pretty bad.
Avatar n tn I was referred to a neurologist and cardiologist. I had a Brain MRI, which was completely normal, and the neuro used it to rule out MS. I had blood work done, and everything was very normal, which ruled out SLE/Lupus, hypothyroidism, anemia, and diabetes; rheumatoid factor and ANA were negative. All I was told by the neuro was that I didn’t have MS. I am scheduled for a Nerve Conduction Study/Electromyography. I haven’t seen the cardio yet.
Avatar f tn I did not know that a thyroid problem coutd cause neuropathy. I am on 25 mcg of Synthroid and for the last 4 years have had terrible burning in my thighs and now my feet as well. It has worsented over the years and a yeat ago I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy. Three months ago, I read that nerves need vitamin B so I started taking the liquid 5000 mcg of Ultra B-12 a day and the neuropathy has gone away. If I forget to take the B for a day, I know it by night as mild burning returns.
1507079 tn?1291513583 Hi people, my question is to anyone who has thyroid problems and has ever been diagnosed with neuropathy. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid 5 yrs ago and off and on I would get treated for it, I say off and on because I'm uninsured and can't afford testing, medications, and Dr. visits, by the way I can't afford a specialist so I go to my family Dr. who treats me when I can afford to go.
793305 tn?1493925518 A1C 6.7, blood sugar 149. I had already changed my diet and started an exercise program. But the dr. Put me on Metformin. 5 weeks later. Kidneys hurt, neuropathy, never had that before.blood sugar fasting runs 170 to 220, being over 200 alot. I stopped taking it...Dr ticked...Kidneys don't hurt. Neuropathy seems to be lessening....oh gosh I hope. Why did this happen to me?
Avatar f tn You are correct in stating that numbness in the hands can be due to neuropathy. However, the generalized neuropathy (involving most nerves in the body) related to diabetes and several other metabolic and nutritional disorders most often starts in the feet, not the hands. In a diabetic with thyroid disease, numbness in the hands would raise concern for another type of neuropathy: carpal tunnel syndrome. The median nerve can be injured anywhere along its course.
787406 tn?1339203183 I have hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid and also have autonomic dysfunction and newly-diagnosed polyneuropathy. It is thought my neuropathy is from the autoimmune thyroid. You would need to get a muscle/nerve conduction test to verify if you have neuropathy which will test for the type which is large fiber. Small fiber can only be tested in certain labs with the ability to do the QSART test. There are over 100 types of neuropathy and the tx depends on the cause.
535882 tn?1396576685 I doubt that all of the things you are describing are from anxiety, but anxiety will aggravate any uncomfortable symptoms. When you say a 'bout of peripheral neuropathy', you are suggesting that the neuropathy was temporary-- some 'neuropathies' are permanent, for example diabetic neuropathy causes burning pain that persists indefinately. If you had a 'temporary' neuropathy, then you may have all sorts of symptoms that will fade with time.
Avatar m tn I have peripheral neuropathy which causes intense burning under the skin all over my body. I was diagnosed with a low thyroid (which can cause neuropathy) and have tried a t3, Synthroid, armour, and a natural thyroid, all of which cause the burning under the skin to get worse. I have searched online and found many other people who are affected this way but no one ever figures it out.
Avatar n tn For example, if you have been exposed to HSV-1 (Cols Sores), HSV-2 (Genital Herpes), Chicken Pox, Mononucleosis and possibly HHV-6, do you run more of a risk for neuropathy? (I know for sure I have or have had the first four). Recently, I have been using acyclovir because I was having genital herpes outbreaks almost every month right before my period.
Avatar m tn I also ran an interaction checker on all three, Tramadol, Hydroxyzine and Synthroid, Synthroid produce no interaction with the other two, al though I di get a "Moderate" Interaction on Tramadol and Hydroxyzine as below: MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.
613290 tn?1220851676 I have weight loss, loss of smell and taste, COPD, Hep.C, Peripheral Neuropathy, Hypothyroid, Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, MVP, HPV, Acid Reflux, Hyatel Hernia and other illnesses, too many to post. I just got a recent blood test result back and my T4 is elevated. Does anyone know if that could be causing any of the problems I'm having.
Avatar f tn I have had chronic diarrhea for over 4 years recently 1st of july finally got a colonoscopy and the doc found 5 polyps and did a biopsy, results negative, I have excessive sweating to where i am taking up to 4 showers a day and after procedure in july i have swelling in ankles and cramps in legs and heat sensation at bottom of my feet, the heat sensation i have had on and off for about 2 years.
Avatar f tn Thyroid cancer 2002. 2005 radical neck disection 41 nodes removed 10 positive for Pap. carcanoma. And ever since then I have had swelling in my legs. The cancer doctors say it has nothing to do with the Thyroid cancer. P.A.'s and naturopaths say it is being on only Synthroid. An internist told me in fact if I go on Cytomel it will cause the cancer to return. I also have Hep C. Is there anything natural I can do to help stop the pain in my legs? Is ther a cure for this?
Avatar m tn I have been on Synthroid for 6 years now and have not seen any improvement with ED as yet. In fact it seems to me that it has gotten more pronounced over the past few years but that could be due to my age, however I have tried some of the ED meds and found them to have no impact whatsoever. My doc seems to think it is soley duw to my age but I am not sure about that at all.
Avatar f tn Even after months pre and post treatment of Synthroid and prednisone...I am still experiencing severe hair loss. Will my body be able to correct itself soon or do these post problems continue for a while? I'm afraid the autoimmune condition will bring the virus back!! Anyone have any feedback for me? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Yes I have been worked up by a neurologist, I have seen many doctors and received several diagnosis, some conflicting, but neuropathy is what seems to match my symptoms the most. I have been checked for diabetes and MANY other things, all normal. I do not drink alcohol at all, or take drugs.
Avatar m tn i discovered that the pills -non prescription , for my neuropathy that i just started taking this morn actually brought my pressure down to normal and has been normal all day...i have ruled out the synthroid for making pressure go up..i think that the withdrawals is the culprit and the neuropathy just adds fuel to the fire....sorry for the ramble.....truly appreciate the good info....
541431 tn?1225894360 Other autoimmune diseases include...? Neuropathy? Connective Tissue Disease? Thyroiditis? Would this also maybe raise the reasons for removing my lesion? Just because my lesion isn't cancerous does that mean it isn't making me sick?
Avatar n tn On my own, I began cutting my synthroid in half and taking it twice daily and that helped with the heart palpitations and the exhaustion, but not the toe cramps, toe twitching, and feet and ankle stiffness (as if someone were squeezing my ankle). In March of 2009, I began taking Armour Thyroid (.30 mg). The problem is that my feet cramp so bad that I can't perform my daily activities and have to postpone things like washing, grocery shopping, theater, classes, etc.
Avatar f tn Please get your vitamin B levels done and try some vitamin B tablets or shots. There are other causes for neuropathy, to read about it do visit website http://en.wikipedia.
