Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and neck pain

synthroid

Avatar f tn I started taking synthroid about a week ago myself. My neck and shoulders were so stiff and sore I could barely move. I tried everything, heating pad, ice, alleve, even missed a day of work. I quit taking synthroid today and will be calling my doctor tommorrow.
Avatar m tn What do I do ? Is it safe to stop synthroid for a week and see if the pain goes away? I am running out of options. Please advise.
Avatar f tn ive had a ct on my neck and head and they didnt see any red flags. and also thank you for responding to my questions i really appreciate it !!!
1108183 tn?1292416673 About a year later I was in the hospital- due to depression, and they said my thyroid levels were off and put me on a low dose of synthroid. Last month, I had run out of my synthroid, and my hair started falling out, I was having night sweats, severe fatigue, and pain and tenderness in the thyroid area of my neck- my glands in my neck were swollen too. By the time I got to see a doctor at the health department, the pain and swelling had left.
Avatar n tn I went to my chiropractor yesterday and got an adjustment. He examined my neck, found the swelling and suggested I see my GP. I have an appointment today. It's been 5 days. Massage won't work, it hurts too much. Thanks for all your advice.
405406 tn?1247428742 Too many endos only treat with Synthroid. The pain in my calves and feet is gone since starting Cytomel. My FT3 levels were already in the upper 1/3 of the range before Cytomel, but I'm on a low dose (5) and I still feel much better with it. But like Lazymoose said, post your levels.
1766910 tn?1314194973 the question i have is recently ive been having sever pain in my jaw that radiates down to the side of my neck is or can this be from my goiter?..thankyou in advance........
626217 tn?1221939563 Hello Doctor, I'm 85 years old and I just had surgery on Dec. 14, 2007. I had a goiter removed from my chest and a removal of my thyroid on my left side. The right side was removed when I was 33 years of age. I've been on Synthroid medication most of my life. Now I'm on 100 mg .
Avatar f tn she now has me on Synthroid to reduce the module ... but the pain in my ear is persistant... no pain in my throat....is there a nerve where this nodule is ???? still in pain on my left ear ...
Avatar n tn I also felt a lot of pressure in my neck/spine. The doctor took 3 vials of blood, did an x-ray of my neck and a ct scan of my head. The results were all normal. For the past 2 weeks i'm feeling extremely weak, i'm suffering from brain fog/memory loss, i'm still feeling dizzy, still having trouble breathing and swallowing. I also have one new symptom. My veins are throbbing all over my body even in my neck which is really annoying.
Avatar n tn PTU is treatment for hyperthyroidism. If your on Synthroid you aren't really connected to a PTU treatment. The skin crawling sensation is a common talked about concern for thyroid patients. Its a reaction to the meds and in most cases not really a concern as it is a short lived issue. Usually two weeks its gone along with a mild headache for some.
983592 tn?1249762935 Hi, I just had a total thyroidectomy done 7/25 and the doctor gave me Tramadol for pain. It did not help me at all, and in fact seemed to start some problems that I hadn't had before and also made pain worse, and so I disposed of them. Now I have back of neck & head migraines that are hanging onto me all day long, and Tylenol doesn't help. I've been told not to take Ibuprofen.
Avatar f tn Are you on synthroid? I have been having extremely painful and enlarged lymph nodes in my neck and am on synthroid, and am wondering if that may be the cause? I don't have Hashi, I don't think I can actually, because I have had a total thyroidectomy. So I am thinking maybe the med theory is right...?
243059 tn?1202377352 My thyroid has been aching ever since I started taking Synthroid. I first took the generic brand then switched to regular Synthroid ( the more expensive kind.) I am stil experiencing discomfort on both sides of my neck where your thyroid is located. I have had my thyroid " palpitated" to see if the docs feel anything but they never seem alarmed. Can Nodules be found by simply pressing on your thyroid? Has anyone else had pain in their thyroid since being on their meds?
Avatar f tn ve always had sore/aches all over my body and sometimes behind my neck. I asked my Endo about the back neck pain and he said it was not related..I wonder, but my pcp thought it might be because of my thyroid. I've actually noticed my neck looked swollen months before, more like a year ago and my old pcp said it was my thyroid, but she said my TSH was normal. Here are the ranges: Test Results Range T4 Thyroxine 10.6 (4.8-13.
Avatar f tn For the last four weeks, experiencing neck and upper chest pressure and discomfort. Thyroid Sonogram on June 17 (one week ago) indicates multi nodular goiter. Appt with Endricinologist in Pittsburgh, PA on July 20th, meantime, this pressure and discomfort is uncomfortable and constant. TSH levels within normal range. Advice? What is this pressure about?
1102845 tn?1285493058 The only thyroid option is to consider combined T4 (synthroid) and T3 (cytomel) - in this case reducing synthroid to 75 and adding 5mcg of cytomel in the am along w/ the synthroid.
566103 tn?1228385767 I agree with Stella5349 that changing to a brand name might be something to think about. I have read here and in other places of neck pain and achiness being associated with taking generic thyroid meds. Of course, nothing’s perfect, but the brand names appear to cause less issues. When I was first on meds I was given the generic. At the first visit to the Endo that dr changed me to a brand for the same reasons. Ultimately it’s you and your dr’s call though.
541234 tn?1266675097 m running out of steam, i have a dx of multi goitor thyroid its a glob now not a butterfly shape i have normal like markers yet i have all the hypo symptoms the pain and tender neck and lymph nodes are going crzy supposely my blood work is normal so my endo is starting me on synthroid graduating to 100 mcg puttin my thryoid to sleep ?
Avatar f tn i took the dose of leptopril to try to lose some weight and all my neck and head pain vanished i didnt take any today and i can feel my symptoms coming back on im going to try and see what happens tomorow. my doctor said all my symptoms had nothing to do with my thyroid. . ive been taking ibuprofen and that doest help at all .
Avatar f tn Hopefully the doctor can do something for you, you should really stress that to the dr. I had to and they removed mine and since it grew the way it did the surgery was longer and recovery was not as good. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Is it safe to use aspercream on neck and thyroid area? What are some pain medication options; NSID do not really seem to be working, and at the same time, I worry about mixing up or taking too much aspiring; tylenol, tylenol PM, and Tylenol w/codeine, vicodin.....No...I don't take them all at once, I alternate depending on the severity of the pain. Body temperature is on the low side; 94.5 to 96. When should I become concerned? my oh my...this is hard...but I'm being patient!
Avatar f tn Then I had the first radio iodine scan and the pain sky rocketed in my left neck (same area), yet no large amount of thyroid tissue was found in the area. They decided to proceed with the treatment though, and after the full dose of radio iodine the pain in my left lymph nodes was unbearable, painful to talk, swallow, yawn, etc. It is about a week after the treatment and the pain has now improved, but it still there.
