Synthroid and muscle cramps

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and muscle cramps

synthroid

Avatar n tn I was Diagnosed and Treated with radioactive Iodine for Graves Disease in the Fall of last year. Since then I have been battling hair loss, weight gain, muscle cramps and extreme tiredness. I recently in May went on the synthroid but haven't had much change except for the muscle cramps have reduced. My question is though, how does taking synthroid effect your periods.
Avatar f tn Hello! My daughter was born without a thyroid gland and she was on Synthroid most of her life. Her freet4 usually ran high and she had many muscle aches in theighs and calves. She was not converting enough of the t4 (Synthroid) to t3(active thyroid hormone) within the body. Her doctor never checked her t3, just assumed it was converting. This could be your issue. I suggest getting your doctor to take a look at the freet3 levels. If he won't, then try to find a doctor who will.
Avatar n tn Actually muscle weakness and loss of muscle tissue can be a side effect of Hypothyroidism. What are your TSH levels now? Posting any blood test may help the doctor. How long have you been on your Synthroid? You could also have strained the muscle in that arm b/c most commonly hypothyroidism will effect many joints and muscles instead of being in one location.
Avatar f tn I get those same muscle cramps and my hands cramps so bad that I have to have someone pull my hand open and my fingers apart. I'm told that my potassium level is very low. I have been taking a supplement and my second set of blood work and the potassium is still low. Waiting for the next step now.
Avatar n tn Few weeks ago, starting getting the severe muscle cramps that I had originally. Just got bloodwork back and behold, the levels are extremely low again. Has anyone seen their results change radically in 6 months? Was moved to 150 mcg from 138 mcg. How long will it take before this starts to relieve these terrible cramps that I'm getting dozens of times a day?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in September of 2008, The MD at that time told me my thyroid was not enlarged and started me on 75 MG Levothyroxine, he later upped it to 100 MG, I was not doing ant better so in Jan of 2009 I went to an Endocrinologist he confirmed I had Hashimoto's and took me off of the generic levothyroxine, my ths was around 5.5-6.0 He started me on synthroid 1.
Avatar n tn Hi, Sorry to hear, your aching. I am hyperthyroid and ache, all over daily, mostly my left shoulder/arm. Pain meds do not seem to help at all. But what does help, is just laying down and relaxing, when the aches get intense. Hope you feel better. Good luck to you !
Avatar n tn On my own, I began cutting my synthroid in half and taking it twice daily and that helped with the heart palpitations and the exhaustion, but not the toe cramps, toe twitching, and feet and ankle stiffness (as if someone were squeezing my ankle). In March of 2009, I began taking Armour Thyroid (.30 mg). The problem is that my feet cramp so bad that I can't perform my daily activities and have to postpone things like washing, grocery shopping, theater, classes, etc.
Avatar n tn no focus....confusion, intense muscle cramps, joint pain, carpel tunnel, stopped exercising, lowered synthroid to 137 mcg, added cytomel 5 mcg 1x a day, then cytomel 2x a day, TSH goes to .07. I lowered on my own 137 mcg synthroid 3x a week cutting 1/2 4 days a week...skip one dose a week for 4 weeks, TSH goes to .20...still feeling terrible. After cutting up synthroid, potassium starts to rise, but TSH drives back down to .12 and T4's go from 1.7 to .7.
Avatar n tn TSH 6 to 10 but Free Ts totally normal and originally antibodies. Currently on 75mg Synthroid. The last couple of weeks, I started feeling really cruddy: constipation, cramping in hands and feet, palpatations at night. Also started sweating a lot during my workouts and eyes hurting. Coudn't sleep. Racing thoughts. Never had this in past year. I went to get blood draw and got back results showing TSH at 3.37 and Free Ts once again.
Avatar m tn It is so hard to tell ... being on Synthroid I also have my Vit D levels checked since I had muscle cramps and turned out in my case it was low vit d!
1102845 tn?1285493058 The only thyroid option is to consider combined T4 (synthroid) and T3 (cytomel) - in this case reducing synthroid to 75 and adding 5mcg of cytomel in the am along w/ the synthroid.
Avatar f tn Do you know your labs? TSH FT3 and FT4. My muscle cramps most times are because I've gone hypo but some do get the cramps from hyper also. It would help to see your labs. Some people do better on certain drugs because drug companies use different fillers and dyes... I personally take the Levothroxine and do well. I don't do well on other synthetics. I'm not certain your Doctor is doing you any favors by increasing then decreasing your meds.
Avatar f tn I was just reading about this new T4 drug Tirosint that has no bad fillers. Only inactive ingredients are gelatin, glycerin and water. I've also been reading how some are having bad reactions like muscle cramps. I'm wondering what's causing that if the only thing in the pill is the T4, gelatin, glycerin and water.
Avatar n tn I started taking the medicine and a week later, I had severe gas problem in my abdomen (more in the lower abdomen) and muscle cramps at the lower back region. I thought it was due to some foodstuff related gas problem. It persisted for 2 days. When I took simethicone (Phazyme 180mg softgel), the bloaty feeling subsided and muscle cramps subsided.
Avatar f tn Hi - I have had a lot of problems with my thyroid lately and was just recently switched from Synthroid to Armour. For the past couple of weeks I have been having muscle twitching and what feels like muscle weakness. My arms and legs feel tired and rubbery. I don't know what the conversion is from Synthroid to Armour but I am pretty sure that I am not on enough.
480320 tn?1218496345 It took about 6 month to recover from the muscle damage the statins caused. I still have leg cramps and muscle aches, mostly at night and some arm cramps/aches, eye twitching (when hyper) - but I know that's due to the Hashi's. Since my hashi's cycles between hyper and hypo (common with Hashi patients), it's difficult to treat, I can cycle daily. (Radioactive Iodine Uptake is the only reasonable course I have and really don't want to do it.
Avatar n tn i have no insurance at this time and cannot afford to see a specialist and have tons of bloodwork done.does any one have some answers regarding synthroid and pain.
Avatar n tn I had radioactive iodine to kill my thyroid gland a few years ago. I've been taking Synthroid for the hormone now. Apparently I was on too much med for a while. I found another doctor and now I'm wondering if I'm too low. I have some muscle weakness (I get muscle cramps in my lower legs by my ankles with just trying to briskly walk a mile -- this has not been a problem for me before), a burning icy-hot sensation in my arm, ALL my teeth hurt the other day ?
Avatar f tn A few days ago, I began experiencing muscle aches everywhere that I cannot explain through changes in exercise or activity. Is this my body adjusting to the medication and needing more Synthroid? Blood test next Friday for synthroid increase. Prior to beginning my medication, the only hypo symptoms I had included tiredness and horrific periods.
Avatar n tn He started needing synthroid about 2+ years ago and had no reaction to taking the synthroid. His arms and legs are covered in hives and he has tried cortisone creams and other oils to moisturize, but nothing helps. He had his Tsh checked a few months ago, and we didn't hear from the doctor, so assumed the same dose of synthroid was needed. Perhaps it is not so. This itching is making him miserable, and nothing helps.
Avatar n tn I have read magnesium levels are lower in the morning and afternoon. But to add, hypothyroidism causes pain and muscle cramps too.
Avatar f tn I had muscle twitching as well- esp while on Synthroid and before my higher Armour dose. My endo PA thought it was unrelated and most likely due to dehydration (or stress) but I didn't agree...
Avatar n tn m hypo, or just on a T4 med like Synthroid, I get muscle cramps and spasms all over. Calves were rock hard - not normal. Hydrating made no difference. On T3/T4 med higher in ranges and I'm better. I take Magnessium Glycinate 800 mcg at night - helps big time for all muscles. Google it and post your labs.
