Synthroid and hives

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and hives

synthroid

Avatar f tn I have the same problems! I have been struggling with chronic urticaria for nearly 2 years now. I have seen an allergist who tells me I have some allergies, but nothing to cause this sort of reaction and I have seen a dermatologist that FINALLY checked my thyroid antibodies (which were elevated) and sent me to an endocrinologist. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and put on 25 mcg of Synthroid. Since I have been taking the Synthroid my hives have MAJORLY worsened.
Avatar n tn I had hives for about 4 months. I know if you are taking any synthroid other than the white (.50) they have fillers and dyes in them. If they don't seem to go away you should see an allergist for some testing. Even an ANA, because some people actually have autoimmune hives. My hives started when I increased my meds also.
Avatar f tn says to take antihistamines before taking the synthroid, but hives are still there and I can still feel the reaction going on. Don't know how much longer I can continue this. Please help!
Avatar n tn My allergist has not prescibed cortisone because it is only a short term solution and the hives usually come back with a vengence. I am presently controlling my Hives with 10 mg of Zyrtec and then 50 mg of Benadryl, both taken at night. Here is a list of potenial hive aggravating foods and medications: beer, berries, chocolate, citrus, nuts, shellfish, tomatoes, wine. Medications: Aspirin, Non-steroidal/ antiinflammatory drugs (such as Alleve, Advil, etc), and codeine preparations.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and anemia. My TSH was 7.0 and ferritin was 28. My physician had prescribed me synthroid and Nu-iron. I've been taking it for about 5 weeks now and for the last few days, I've been breaking out in severe hives. I've been trying to monitor my intake but everything but I really believe it is either the synthroid or Iron med.
Avatar n tn He started needing synthroid about 2+ years ago and had no reaction to taking the synthroid. His arms and legs are covered in hives and he has tried cortisone creams and other oils to moisturize, but nothing helps. He had his Tsh checked a few months ago, and we didn't hear from the doctor, so assumed the same dose of synthroid was needed. Perhaps it is not so. This itching is making him miserable, and nothing helps.
Avatar f tn I was otherwise healthy 49 yr old going thru menopause, wanted testing for thyroid, finds out my antibodies are high, was sent to Endo who even though TSH was good put me on Synthroid, after 2 weeks major hives, stopped Synthroid hives come and go. MY endo doesn't belie ve its from high antibodies or synthroid been to 6 dr's, HELP!!!! Seen Derma, Allergist, 2 er dr's my primary, and Endo!!!! On non stop antihsitamines and Visatril and I dont take meds, hate this!
Avatar m tn A few days later, a co-worker told me that I had hives and to stop the antibiotic. I did, but the hives continued. I went to a GP who put me on steroids twice but the hives continued and got worse. Then he had me go to an allergist. Allergist ruled out food and environment as the potential cause, so that left the internal body workings. After numerous tests and a third round of steroids, the only test that was abnormal was my TPO Antibody was high. I went to my endo.
Avatar n tn Same with advil, tylenol and aspirin. The hives were also worse with anything tight on my skin and during long drives, they appeared on my hands. I learned to live with them as nothing seemed to help. Two years ago, during an annual physical, my physician tested my thyroid. Apparently at my age, it's a test they do. I had been tired but throught it was stress. I don't know how long I was on the synthroid before I noticed, I didn't have any more hives.
Avatar n tn hai iam workman ,presently my age 24 and mt wt 50 and i taking levothyroxine tablets 4 years , 4 years back i have same wt and i looking like a childish and my tsh ,t3 ,t4 results are same so how to increase my body wt and improve body stucture
Avatar f tn I have seen a Dermatologist who says I need to accept the fact that I will not know what is causing the hives and to treat the hives (allegra and zantac) I have seen the Allergist who wants to check for an autoimmune disease which I don't understand because Hashimotos is an autoimmune disease or problem I thought. My thyroid doctor says there is no link between the thyroid and the hives and has taken a leave of abscence from his practice.
Avatar f tn Well in April of this year I started breaking out in hives everywhere..so I saw a Dermatologist who said that the hives are urticaria and to see an Allergist. So I saw an Allergist who has determined that the hives are not caused by an allergy and wants to run blood work to determine if there is an autoimmune problem causing the hives. The Dermatologist says this is a waste of time because of the Hashimotos and to accept the fact that I won't be able find the true reason for the hives.
Avatar f tn , which was supposedly related to having taken diclofenac (I’m allergic to all pain killers). I had hives and urticaria in my body and swelling of my lips and throat also. I was even hospitalized two days so they could get the swelling down with steroids.
Avatar f tn when i woke up one morning and my lips were swollen and i had been waking up with hives every am. My g.p referred me to an allergist and he did several tests (lupus etc along with the anti thryoid antibodies )and I already see and endrocrinologist i went to the endo crinologist after the allergist found the antibodies and she has changed my thryoid meds to synthroid 112mcg. I would like to get off the allergra, but the hives are so bad if i forget to take it I am miserable.
610453 tn?1259104722 hoping he will have some miracle cure to lower this level once and for all and hopefully rid me of the hives. (but until then I continue with my allergy and synthroid protocol and always keep prednisone on hand in case of big flare ups. But the most important thing I wanted to share is this......I found that when I had big flare-ups taking OTC Pepsid helped......So if anyone hasn't tried this....go pick up a box of generic pepsid (famotodine) and keep with you for this purpose.
Avatar m tn Shortly after that I started to break out in hives. The doctor then put me on Synthroid stating maybe I was allergic to something in the generic. The itching and hives continues. I stopped all medicine. I had about a month with few rashes, then they came back stronger then ever and has not let off. I currently am on a prescription anti histamine. Was hoping to find a way to get off this medicine. Going to see an allergist again in hopes of finding I am allergic to something.
Avatar n tn hi i am too on synthroid and my body is trying to tell some thing but i don't understand my doc told me you test is fine but i am not fine TIRED can i get sythroid without the dye what about armour is it made from dye
Avatar n tn Anyone ever develop hives after being hypo for RAI. I seem to be getting hives here and there on my body and my head itches really bad. My dr. started me out again on 175 synthroid and 12.5 cytomel 4 x per week two weeks ago.I wonder if I could still be dropping because I'm not getting thyroid meds everyday, and I also have a headache.
Avatar f tn I remember 10 years ago I had started off on a lower dose and was slowly raised up to 100 mcg of synthroid. For years I have been on that dose and it was the right one for me and I felt great on it, I never felt like I had any symptoms. Last December, I had gone to my clinic to get a refil, and my regular doctor wasn't on scene, so a different doctor was filling in for him. This new doctor reviewed my tsh (which around 3 normal range of .3-5.
1370193 tn?1278349040 If you were on synthroid, then it was HYPOthyroidism - the T4 and T3 levels are normal (likely b/c you were on synthroid ?). There is no proven "natural" remedy for true hypothyroidism - continue to have labs checked with your doctor - TSH is the best test for thyroid evaluation.
Avatar n tn I have just seen a dermatologist who changed my antihistamine presciption, and who told me the hives could be linked to my thyroid condition and has taken blood to test for C3, C4, haemoglobins, electrophoresis, full blood count and ESR. Can you explain the link please between hypothyroid and allergic reactions? Also, is there anything I can do myself to help matters as it's very depressing.
Avatar f tn I have Hashimoto's and have had hives for 16 years and never knew what caused them. They seem to be somewhat hormonal--or at least get worse at different times of the month. I was diagnosed about 2 1/2 months ago with hypothyroid and TPO antibodies. My doctor has me on 50 mcg synthroid and my TSH has come down to 1.5 (from between 4.83-5.05), while my antibodies are now at 133 (from 149 when I started meds)--that was my 6 week reading.
Avatar f tn For the last 12 months I have suffered with bad hives (not so bad now though) and the first attack they were size of dinner plates which caused anaphalaxix. After allergy tests etc and nothing found , as each 'attack' occurred it was found my levels were out of range. Mainly my TSH had gone higher and I had gone a fraction hypo. With hypo I get anxiety......I was on courses of pernisolone (one dose lasting 33 days ).
Avatar f tn hair falling out, freezing cold, heart palps/skipping beats, anxiety, dry skin, and finally breaking out in hives on my body and face as well as facial swelling. My PCP at the time shrugged their shoulders and said "maybe allergies?" I went to an allergist and was tested for environmental allergies and it was all negative. He ran an autoimmune panel and bingo... anti-thyroid antibodies were high! Diagnosed me with autoimmune hives and told me to go see an endo ASAP.
Avatar n tn Doctor took blook a few days ago and sent me back a script decreasing my synthroid to 137 mcg. TSH 0.022 and limits .35 - 5.5. Now, here is my question. 0.022 would mean to raise the amount, correct?
Avatar n tn I went to dr today and was diagnosed with Bronchitis and I am currently on a steroid and cipro antibiotic they gave me a breathing treatment and took xrays and said its not pneumonia my concern is I have had unexplained migraimes for 13 years now even spent time in headache treatment and thay could not identify them. I have now for about the last year been suffering with anxiety issues and hives continiously as well as pains in the joints of my fingers.
Avatar f tn Tirosint and Synthroid are 2 different brands of T4 medication. Tirosint is a gelcap, containing only 4 ingredients, which are the active ingredient, levothyroxine, water, gelatin, and glycerin. It's basically, hypoallergenic. As a gelcap, it's dissolved and absorbed better than pill type meds. Tirosint starts off at 13 mcg and goes up to 300 mcg. Synthroid is the leading brand of pill type thyroid hormone replacement meds.
