Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and food interactions

synthroid

Avatar f tn hi,im on several meds and my thyroid meds are synthroid and cytomel....i also take hormones and xanax...i read where alot of my meds have interactions...but pharmisits say its ok.............
708731 tn?1229049180 I would look at the birth control pill in relation to your thyroid medication and disease, and also the consequences of mixing the birth control and the Prozac. You may find that switching birth control will allow for treatment other than Prozac. Just a thought, but I think it has merit. Keeping up on your bloodwork and getting stable at the correct level is the best medicine. If Prozac helps short term, go for it. I'm taking xanax.
Avatar f tn I also take toprol and synthroid. Any thought on taking these together? Thanks for any imput.
Avatar n tn I compete in figure bodybuilding and reqularly take creatine, glutamine, whey protein powder, and BCAAs. What effect will synthroid meds have on these supplements and should I continue using them?
393685 tn?1425812522 I'm going to say yes on the gastro-intestinal problems linked to Hypo, based on experience with no scientific data to back it up. I'm wondering the same things in regard to stomach acid, and also drug interactions. I'm taking Alprazolam and Ranitidine, among other things. I think I need to space them out differently. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Avatar f tn Did you know that if you take prescription Vitamin D like Drisdol you can't take pretty much anything?? I was having acid issues and thought I'd take some Tagamet. Took it for 2 days and then thought maybe I ought to call the endo and ask. He said NO!!!! He told me that the only thing I could take was Pepcid AC and not even that if I could help it. He said all of that stuff interferes with the synthroid and the Drisdol. He's a party pooper.
Avatar m tn I asked the person in chare of the hep c treatment and all i got was you should take Riba with food so grapfruit is ok. I don't think they had a clue.
Avatar f tn I have had several courses of augmentin for sinus infections over the past year and have not noticed any effect on my thyroid levels. I did, however, feel the prednisone I was taking last summer may have caused a temporary swing in my TSH, but everything was back to normal once I was off the steroids (given to reduce inflamation from the sinus infection). I wouldn't worry about the antibiotics if your doctor decides you need them.
1157054 tn?1266094164 you can always do searches on drugs and their interactions with herbs and vitamins.....most of the vitamin warnings will only be interference in absorption, so usually recommend taking vitamins a couple of hours away from meds. When taking synthroid, take all vitamins at least 2 hrs apart, except for Calcium and Iron take at least 6 hrs apart.
Avatar f tn There are no listed interactions with Phentermine and Synthroid however i would check with a pharmacist if you do not want to talk to your doctor.
Avatar f tn com, they have a good Interactions Checker, and the site is free. We do not have a Data Base to check interactions with all medications.
1070570 tn?1283436213 have been told I have a conversion issue due to a high RT3 level in April (352)- don't convert T4 to T3 optimally, instead it converts to RT3 which cancels out the T3 that's trying to get into my cells. That's why I was wondering if increasing the synthroid was just gonna increase my RT3 and make me feel worse.
Avatar n tn I have seen where people say to take it a hour later from synthroid and with food yet the pharmacist said take it without food, yet the pamphlet from the pharmacy said take it with or without food. I always take my synthroid upon waking early without food for 30 min. and wait till lunch for vitamins and calcium etc. I am also on the generic cytomel hence the pharmacy changed that so I hope it is the same. DId you feel any changed when you first added generic cytomel, just want to be prepared .
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and anemia. My TSH was 7.0 and ferritin was 28. My physician had prescribed me synthroid and Nu-iron. I've been taking it for about 5 weeks now and for the last few days, I've been breaking out in severe hives. I've been trying to monitor my intake but everything but I really believe it is either the synthroid or Iron med.
219609 tn?1210348114 I had thought as so,,Plus my endo told me to take 800 a day on vit D but I take 1000, I take all my meds like multi vitamins at noon and D before sleep,,I take my synthroid at 6am and go back to sleep,Most of the time I always get eight solid hours of sleep but my internal clock wakes me to take meds, plus there are still lots of times I wake first thing nervous, so my zanax is in order, I was at 175mcg for a while but am slowly going back down to 137mcg because my numbers are to high in the fre
Avatar m tn Likewise, I was never told to avoid taking anything with my levothyroxine besides food and calcium/multivitamin (basically just not at the same time, but I could still have a multivitamin). I've also never had a problem taking benedryl (besides that it knocks me out) or any other drug with my hypothyroid meds. If you're on a drug for your hypothyroidism, there is this nifty tool at the top- under drugs, you can find drug interaction.
Avatar m tn As far as food im not sure look at your lable and the print out that came with your meds. I do know that asprin is forbidden.
Avatar n tn It certainly sounds like hyper symptoms to me, but you should be monitored closely and tested with any dosage change. Call your doc and describe your symptoms and ask why you haven't been tested to check the effectiveness of your new dosage change. You should have been tested at 6 weeks!
4916735 tn?1360986597 I am a hypothyroid patient and I have a cold with sore throat, coughing and congestion. What medicines over the counter can I take?
Avatar f tn I take the synthyroid (complete thyroidectomy Dec 2008) and coumadin (DVT) at the same time and then 1 1/2 hrs later, I take topamax (migraine) and protonix (GERD). Is this enough time between each?
Avatar f tn It's nearly impossible to gage the interactions between medications and supplements because supplements are not regulated and/or tested to the extent that medications are. My best and only advice would be to ask your physician, even he/she may draw a blank.
