Makes it difficult when you wake up with a migraine/sinus headache or my other posts a few down about having to take anti-inflammatory for bad pain in the early AM .. has to space out by at least 2hrs for med and 1/2-1hr for food ... some meds may even be further spaced .. not sure on Calcium ??
In general weight loss is related to dietary intake of food, amount and type of exercise, and metabolic rate. Of course thyroid hormones have a significant effect on metabolism. People can generally lose weight if they go on a very low calorie diet, or do a great amount of exercise, but if your metabolism is low due to being hypothyroid, then it becomes almost impossible to maintain that loss, and it is very frustrating to watch the scales as your weight goes back up.
I was put on 150 mcg of Synthroid for over a year and recently received a call from my doctor saying my levels were low and prescribed me 125 mcg of Synthroid. I don't understand why he did that. Isn't 150 mcg a higher dosage than 125 mcg?
Thank You! I'm still trying to resolve the tired issue for a couple of years now. I forgot to mention that I'm Vit D deficient as well and was started on 50000 IU for a month and then 2000 IU for fall and winter & 1000 IU for spring & summer.
i take cytomel in the morning with my synthroid--and also again the afternoon. does cytomel have to be taken an our after synthroid? never heard that but just read that here? also i am getting different information about whether cytomel can be taken with food, or on an empty stomach. also i am on yaz birth control, which i take several hours after my cytomel--is that ok? please help.
The secret is to be 'consistant' and I have ALWAYS had my coffee in the morning with my T4 med and never had any ill effects and levels good. As for your Doc suggesting FOOD with your med. Forget it...the food will absorb the med into the gut and will be excreted via the bowel so you would only be getting a small dose of synthroid.
At first I blamed it on my vitamin pill but it still happens on days void of vitamin pills. I am suppose to put 4 hrs between Synthroid and any calcium, fiber and Prevacid. Since I don't care to wait until 10:00 in the morning to have any food at all, I try to have non fiber foods for the first four hours. Tomorrow I will go without the Prevacid completely and see what happens.
My total cholesterol was 548 2 months ago increased synthroid from 50 to 100 now cholesterol is 240 and we have increased synthroid to 125.No cholesterol pills just synthrois increase. Good Luck.My blood pressure is high as well. I have hypo with hashimoto's.
No fruits or fruit juices. Nothing with V-C or calcium or Fiber. Take Calcium or Iron supplements and their food/drinks, and soy products four to 12 hours of your synthroid for they interfere with aborsption, as well as the same with Aspirin and equivalent. Aspirin and other salicylate drugs (Pain killers) may increase the effectiveness of your thyroid hormone replacement by releasing more drug into the blood from body storage sites.
had three cups of strong coffee 2day and on second cup of tea :)
I asked my Doctor and he said that as coffee is liquid and not a digestive food that it wouldnt make any difference and it hasnt. I actually changed my med time to bedtime as I find it easier taking it at night now because of going back to work fulltime. Only difference is I start to feel tired around 7pm ( a few hours before it is due). I dont think coffee makes any difference at all.
i find i get exzema if my dose is not quite right, like if im a bit hypo or hyper. and also if i eat dairy - it could be from a food you're eating. and i think im getting it from the orange colouring in my thyroid meds.
Heart rate is good, so how could the diarrhea be caused by the synthroid - I mean I thought maybe they gav eme too much, but endo said he did not want to see me for 1 month since it would take that long for synthroid to stabilize before he did the firs adjustment, and here it is only 2 weeks and the diarrhea for 3 days now. Any ideas on whter it could be the syhroid, and if it took me to hyper again, wouldn't I hav elal the other symptoms too? Not jsut the diarrhea.
My daughter was born without a thyroid gland and always VERY hungry the last few years she was on Synthroid. Her free t4 was kept very high in the range then, and her free t3 was very low when this was occuring (conversion issue). She has been on desiccated porcine thyroid hormone replacement (Nature-Throid brand) for 1 year now, which has t3 in it as well as t4.
It was not a problem before synthroid, and went away when I stopped synthroid, so yes it was the synthroid. I am sure you have, but just to double check...have you checked out all they symptoms for hypothryoidism? Constipation is one of them along with many other gastro issues. I am a member of that club, albeit, unwillingly.
Spoke to the PA in my doctor's office later in the day and she suggested stopping the Synthroid completely and retesting my TSH in 6 weeks possibly starting on a lower dose then. Has anybody else experienced such horrible, sudden side effects on such a small dose? If so how did you deal with it? Would another brand be better? I am so frustrated because I was actually starting to feel a bit better in regards to energy levels etc. PS-Thanks for the suggestions cheshire.
) What else affects synthroid food wise? Hmmmm. I feel like it has taken forever to regulate my TSH- I guess everything is relative. Take care.
One is that Acid reflux is caused by TOO LITTLE acid, then the food ferments and then it gets pushed up etc. And yeah I think there might be a corrolation between hyp. Interesting that yes Lemons ARE acidic, however when the body breaks down the lemon the effect is a alkalizing effect on the body. I am somewhat skeptical but worth a try. I always laugh when you hear these natural remedies. The reasoning goes like this " for ex: "Bananas are high in potassium.
Have been on Synthroid for 5 days now and I wanted to know if I can drink milk right away after dose or wait? I thought it was waiting 4 hours? I took mymeds today at 6:15am and had a bowl of cereal and glass of milk around 10am. Should I wait longer in the long run?
I've heard of some people taking their synthroid at night, I know it wouldn't work for me and I don't see a need for it in your case, so long as you wait an hour before eating.
I was on 450 mcg of synthroid for 4 1/2 years. My endo had never heard of such a high dose. And I have had many since that have not heard of it as well. Well, that was because I have Celiac and my body is no absorbing the way it should. That goes with ANY vitamin, mineral, food, supplement, whatever. If your Celiac is not under control, your body will not be getting the nutrients it needs.
As for food, stick with the complex carbs, such as that found in veggies and whole grains, lean protein, low/no fat dairy, nuts and seeds, etc. Make sure to keep portion sizes in check.
When the instructions say to take Synthroid on an empty stomach and hour before breakfast, does that mean no coffee for an hour also?
I was recently diagnosed with a hypothyroid and started at 50 mcg and last week I was put on 75mcg. I am always tired and can't shake the feeling. I have gained at least 10 points in the the past 5 months since I started the Synthroid. I have read on many boards that a selenium supplement could help. Any ideas?
I been on Synthroid or a generic for more than 20 years, I no longer have health insurance and can not afford to see a doctor. I went off my meds. My eyes are swollen and getting worse. I won't be eligible for Medicare for another year. I know that my health will get worse, but I'm not eligible for Medicaid and can't afford a doctor and all the tests. Is there anything I can do?
Just to give you an idea, the ocean spray and biproducts from the ocean effect our soil and the entire food chain, and within it our cattle's diet, differently than say the diet of the cattle of the midwest. Thus less iodine... (defined for the most part as having come from the sea...) I don't know if this helps, but I was eased by the fact that I hadn't so much "cheated" as I thought I had...
Hello! I have to take estrace and synthroid and am wondering what time of day is optimum to take them and if I can/should take them together? I was told to take the Synthroid an hour before I eat breakfast and am wondering if I should take the estrace then also, since they are both hormones? Thanks for your time and info!
The biggest difference is I don't have a zest for food and eat mechanically and dutifully. What a loss. Still, my dreams are intact and I look forward to eating my way through Italy someday, without flab. Hugs.
